They never checked whose food was who's, then my sons dinner never arrived. Nobody came back to check. I had to go into the pub to chase them. About 10 mins after me complaining they arrived. They really didn't care. The previous month they had a ridiculous system implemented which seems to have gone, where they force you to order food from the table and not the bar. So you would have to order your drinks separately. They said this was to prevent people leaving without paying. They made a mess of this as well. Regardless I offered to pay it all up front at the till to ease their minds. They said that was not possible. It's all gone a bit wrong up there.

On this visit I had the cajun chicken burger, which was ok, nothing special - served with chunky chips that were again, nothing special. My girlfriend had the chicken sandwich which again wasn't going to win any awards. The Park Horse is a good pub still and in the summer months, there are not many better things than sitting outside on the decking looking onto the amazing views on fields upon fields upon fields however it has lost some of it's special sauce and more so it's identity. RIP childhood memories.. All this said It's still decent and the setting will forever be amazing - they can't change that - but the food has gone down hill and is just bang average in all honesty. Sadly it's another Bolton favourite that a few years back, would've received 5 stars screaming for a 6, but now is just falling into the bog standard Bolton trap.

This whitewashed inn accessed over an old packhorse bridge claims to 'probably' be Yorkshire's oldest (1307). Got to love them covering themselves for inaccuracy there. That's over seven centuries of beery goodness which was open for trade 40 years before the Black Death! A gem of a building with wooden beams throughout - the layout inside is stepped as it's built on a decline so disabled access is obviously limited (you may wish to phone in advance if you or your family member has any mobility concerns). There's plenty of seating throughout, however, with some set back in nooks in the walls. As well as serving real ale from independent brewers, they stock genuine imported lagers from around the world. Their fridge of bottled beers looked quite comprehensive. They also have guest beers which change regularly - when I visited they had Jaipur from Thornbridge on (one of my all time favourites). They serve food but we didn't eat here on this occasion. I can guarantee I will be a punter here again when I'm over next time.

We have 2 Alsation dogs, who the LandLady admitted were well behaved, but she asked us not to bring them with us again. This venue must not be advertised as being "Dog Friendly" anymore. The LandLady claimed our dogs were scaring children. We were sitting outside in the beer garden and one of the two children in the beer garden came over to stroke our dogs. The little boy was only a toddler and he loved them! Our dogs enjoyed him petting them, the only other child in the beer garden was a young girl approx 13 years old, she didn't have any interaction either good or otherwise with our dogs. When asked about which child was scared of them, she said it was herself! We had eaten meals and had 2 rounds of drinks prior to being asked not to bring the dogs ever again. They had done nothing wrong, to warrant being barred other than being big dogs. My partner and I were deeply offended and will never return with or without the dogs.

The bar area is small and cosy, and in the back there's a small restaurant. But the real star here is the food... oh my, it's simply wonderful. Home made, beautifully presented and full of flavour which makes everything else look bland. It can get busy at weekends, so book a table in the restaurant to be sure of a seat. We also had half of the pub reserved for us and 2 bar staff for our party and and homemade sausage rolls on the bar. There was prosecco on arrival for the guests, which cost £15 per bottle, and they were accommodating, catering for differing dietary requirements and bringing in limoncello on request. They also let us bring the cake and balloons in advance. Would definitely recommend for parties of a maximum size of 45 (more if you're able to hire out the entire pub).
