Went to the store to buy a card today. Saturday sept 17th. When I went to buy a card, the clerk was pretty insistent asking if I wanted to sign up in their system and I would get 10% off the next purchase. I really did not want to do that. #2 - the card seemed very expensive. Over $6. When I inquired about the cost, the male clerk (did not get his name but the only male working there) said"see if you signed up you would have saved money next time" in a real sarcastic way. And rang up the card. When I asked for a bag to put it in, he just threw the bag on the counter. Not even attempting to put the card in the bag or even saying here it is...I know this all seems trivial but customer service is everything these days. This service sucked. Wonderful things here. Went to the one in Wellesley yesterday and it was just as nice and big as the one in Brookline, but without the parking hassle. Somewhat pricey but great quality. Also staff is usually very helpful and will go out of their way to check if they have something in their stock room for you or even order store-to-store transfers. read more

ZOMG Papar sores lol!!1 This place is great. After walking by about five million times, I finally decided to check them out. I do lots of crafty things, from sewing/deconstructing, to scrapbooking, to just packaging the stuff people buy from me off eBay in an extra special, extra personalized way. Where has this store been all my life? Well, I guess... in.. Brookline. Where it is. Anyhow. I'm a lean, mean, crafting machine. Except, yanno, not very lean or mean. I love fancy overpriced papers, maybe so much that I need a ten step program. How cool would it be if Paper Source offered that?! But I guess that would hurt their sales. & I'm not sure what I'd do with my life if I couldn't be an artsy-craftsy maniac. Super fun stationery store! I love going in to pick-up thank you notes or holiday cards because they have such a great selection ranging from whimsical and retro to modern. Ribbons, stickers, and stamps galore! I also like to buy random presents here, because they have quirky, beautiful goods like felt puppets from Nepal and silk photo albums. This is not a review for the store, which I am utterly IN LOVE with. This, in fact, is a review for last nights "Crafters night out" for Valentine's Day. When I first tried to sign up a week before (when I first read the sign) it was full, but I left my number in case any spots opened up. Later that day someone called to say they could squeeze me in and I was very excited! When I arrived at 6:05 when it was suppose to start, I was the first person there, and the organizers were setting things up. Shortly after more women started to trickle in and they still were not set up yet. They offered us seats and around 6:20 we started making our cards. The first card I made came out wonderful. The woman, her name is Sitara (spelling? sorry) was very nice and friendly. She was a bit frazzled because 2 workers who were suppose to help with the crafters night out called out sick. (You would think they would have back up for that, considering there were close to 30 people making intricate Valentine's cards) She had to stop mid way through an explanation of how to do this and that, to help people at another table, and get supplies that were not on the table. The first card, as I said, came out great, but unfortunately things started going down hill from there. The heat was on full blast, it must have been 85 degrees in the room, with embossing heaters, and 30 crafters. They didn't have enough seats (which I later heard, is the usual situation) which was quite annoying. There was no flow, and it was basically a free for all on supplies, and many people left the ink stamps open, so when I went to use them they were dried, and my embossing came out crappy and uneven. It wasn't very organized, and towards the end they seemed annoyed that I had missed some instructions on how to cut paper, and just seemed to want to go home. I don't think that I will be returning for another crafters night out. One thing that really made me upset, is that the store closed at 7 and the class came with a 10% off coupon that I was really excited about. BUT, because I got done late (because they started late, were understaffed, and unorganized) I was unable to use the coupon at all( it was for that night only). My cards had glitter and colored embossing powder on every inch that I could not get off (because the work stations were messy, no matter how much I tried to dust them off) That really pushed my buttons. Hopefully they can get their act together next time. read more

I have been to the Paper Source only in Coolidge Corner. Never hearing of the store before (or anything like it), I was pleasantly surprised as I walked through the three section store. A heaven for anyone that is even slightly crafty or knows someone who is. Excellent papers, scrap-booking supplies, stationary, envelopes, stamps, professional invites, business cards, gifts, card, and much much more. This would get five stars except the staff isn't quite as friendly and helpful as would be expected. read more

I love this place! They have tons and tons of paper supplies, calendars, cards, craft-related books and other trinkets. I love their stock of journals; they can be a little pricey, but they're of great quality. I especially like the ones made in India with decoupaged advertisements. Paper Source is a great store, no doubt about it. However, I use it more for inspiration then buying. Besides the beautiful paper goods, they have lovely photo albums, journals, cards, stamps, inks, glitters and more.. However it all adds up very quickly. Running in to buy a set of envelopes can easily evolve into a basket of supplies and way more then you intended to spend. You don't need to buy everything at Paper Source to produce beautiful art. Although it all looks amazing and wondrous, try not to get too carried away, buy the necessities and get the rest at a cheaper craft store.. read more

i like the paper source for it's uniqueness, and for the inspiration it stirs in me to create beautiful things. Paper Source hosts weekly or biweekly workshops and have filled their store with much more than just paper and glue. i can get completely absorbed in their non-sequitor book selection, and giggle endlessly at the cards they sell. read more

I always get a little uneasy in stores like this as I worked in a stationary store when I was in college and am still trying to recover from various traumas I experienced there such as witnessing an ostensibly loving couple get into screaming match over whether to choose off-white or ivory paper for their wedding invitations. What I learned working in that stationary store is that people attach way too much importance to random paper products. Seriously. It's just paper. And why is the paper so expensive? So, as you've probably guessed, I'm not a particulary artsy/crafty person. However, when I do need a card or a small little gift, I'm inclined to step into Paper Source and see what I can find. The last time I was here I was looking for an engagement card to send to my friend who had just gotten engaged. Nothing! I was in shock. Wedding cards, check, baby cards, check, no engagement cards. They had an interesting assortment of blank cards, but nothing that was really suitable for an engagement. I was bummed. The sales person was quite helpful, however, and tried her best to help me find something. They also have cute little gag gifts and games and toys around the register. But, again, overpriced and fairly useless. read more

Yes this place is an experience and a definite pick-me-up. I don't know how the staff leaves with their paychecks intact, maybe you develop a tolerance to beautiful paper like other substances? Papersource is the place to go if you are making invitations and other home paper products. I'm graduating in May...do you have any idea how ugly graduation invitations are? They are truly heinous. So I took it upon my crafty self to make nice invitations. While I was able to find the majority of my supplies (petal cards, fun printed vellum, rubber stamps...) at Papersource they do not have a large selection of card stock of different weights. (Odd for a place named "paper source") They also sell items like Zots which are great but you can definitely get them cheaper at Michael's (where I will also be buying cardstock.) Papersource is a great place to get inspiration and find those components of your project that set it apart. read more

This was our second time here and we loved it. It reminds us of a paper shop that one of our best friend's used to work at in New Orleans. They have great cards and stationary and a nice variety of quirky gifts. The prices are not cheap but they normally have a nice selection in their clearance section ranging from 50 to 75% off. Both times we've spent over a half hour looking around at all the cool stuff they have. The store is very clean and everything is very organized. The staff members are really nice and they all fit the bill as far as being artsy looking and knowledgeable about what's in stock and where things are located. We love paper source and we will continue to support these kind of shops, wherever we go. read more

i know this is another chain store, but i have to review it because i have a serious obsession. maybe something is wrong with me for loving this place as much as i do, but i have no problem with it. there are a lot of different things going on in this store--they have really good craft ideas for kids (and adults), they have excellent invitation ideas for all sorts of occasions, and they have great gift ideas for anyone. i particularly love their card stock, paper, and stamp options--definitely one of the best selections in town! they also offer fun and interesting workshops throughout the year, which im less of a fan of, but for people who struggle with ideas, they are a good idea. another thing about this place that i love is they they always have new projects going on every time i go here. they usually have seasonal window displays, and the workers inside are like santas little elves always working away on some new creation. i love it! whats more, the staff will demonstrate anything in the store if you have any questions about how something is used or what a certain color combination will look like. this place gets 5+ stars for the inspiring ideas that they offer every time i go here. read more

Oh how I miss that days of living in Coolidge Corner and spending hours playing at the Paper Source. I love looking at the stationary, invitations, scrapbook supplies, and wrapping paper. A bit of a stationary, arts and crafts addict, I'm the type that likes it too much that I won't use it, especially not on people who won't appreciate it (you know who you are). After all, it's just too cute and pretty. A bit on the pricey side, I come here to browse and get ideas...making purchases when I find something that is irresistible, which is usually everything. If I can afford it, I plan on getting my wedding invitations here, but I guess I have some time since I have yet to be asked. Ha! oh paper source, i do love thee, but why so expensive? yes, your papers/cards/crafting and gifting supplies are adorable. yes, your staff is helpful and friendly. yes, you are super conveniently located. but sometimes, flipping over to the back of a cute birthday card and seeing a $6-8 price makes me want to die a little inside. your friend: so, uh, where's the gift that goes with my card? you: don't be ridiculous, the gift IS that card! i've come here before looking for thank you cards. but at an average of $13 for 10 cards, if you're neck-deep in the interview process, you can run through that ten times over before you land that job. back to the bright side - there's more than just paper here! they have one of my favorite book sections, with books to please young and old (everything from "everyone poops" to origami manuals). they also just started carrying these adorable umbrellas that look like a geisha or flamenca dancer when all wrapped up (saw them first on fredflare.com - they're cheaper here and you don't have to pay s&h!). all that being said, paper source, i will continue to relish perusing you on my ho-hum days of mindless wandering. but for arguably just-as-cute thank you cards, day planners, and even scrapbook paper - I'm headed to Target. read more

I was looking for unique wedding invitations and fell in love with what I saw from the Paper Source's website before I realized that the store was about .5 miles from where I worked (at the time). For my wedding, my mother and I handmade about 100 or so invitations using the Paper Source's papers and ideas. Everything came out great and they were so helpful and patient at the store. This was 5 years ago and I think the Brookline's store's wedding invitation selection has expanded and now they have workshops you can take. My invitations were truly one of a kind, cheaper, and 10 times better than typical invitations. We also made programs, seating cards, and bookmarks too. read more

Paper Source is one of my biggest weaknesses. I can stop in there needing one thing and wind up hundreds of dollars poorer in a matter of minutes. I took the "Cards for all occasions" workshop a few months back. I tried to sign up online but it was showing as full, so a super helpful staffer at the Brookline location helped me out when I called and fit me in. Apparently they only take so many online reservations and leave a couple of spots open, so as not to overbook. Which surprised me because when I went the day of the class there were only 3 other people there. Oh well, more glitter and stamps for me! I believe Hannah was the instructor and she was super nice and showed me some very cool tricks and techniques. Overall the class was fun, but I mostly just took away from it what supplies I would need to start my card making. They do offer a #% coupon off your purchase for taking the class, so that was cool. (I forget if it was 10% or 20%) I made a HUGE purchase that day so that I could be stocked and ready for any type of occasion I could warrant a card for. Let's put it this way, I was sick of paying $3 to $9 per card because at the rate I send them out to friends, family, neighbors, random strangers, I was going broke. So I figured the couple hundred $ that I put into the supplies in order to make my own would be money well spent. Well, it was, kinda. After purchasing cards, envelopes, lining templates, embossing tool, embossing powders, brads, thingy to nail in the brads, ink pads .... the list goes on and on - I figure I was actually losing $ on the deal. But you know what, now I have the ability to make a card on a moments notice ... as opposed to settling for whatever generic card the local CVS has. I go back to Paper Source for my supplies and am always happy with the service and the vast assortment - if only the prices were a little more reasonable, but hey, can't win them all. read more

I love Paper Source! Like everyone has said before, prices are a little intense, but for the quality of some of their papers...totally worth it. Staff is helpful...at times. There were two employees standing behind the counter. I asked where ribbon was and I was passed off between the two. Not sure why though. The first woman started to answer my question, but when it came to actually showing me she had her co-worker do it instead. The second woman was helpful and friendly, but seemed a bit annoyed with the first for passing me along. I felt like the first woman didn't care. She immediately went back to typing on the computer, making it seem like I wasn't a valued customer. I might not be spending a lot at the store, but that doesn't mean I don't deserve more respect. It didn't seem like a hard question to answer and follow through with, so why she had to pass me along is still a mystery. Overall, good place for fancy paper. Everyday gifts might be out of the price range, but for a Brookline store the prices make sense. I do wish the staff were more approachable. Worst service ever! I walked in here on my kunch break to see their selection of wedding invitations. I must have been in the store for at least 30 minutes, there was a group of employees gathered not even 4 feet from me but not a single one of them greeted me or offered me their assistance. I sat down and looked at the wedding books and was shocked to see that not one single person offered to help or to explain how it all worked. I tried making eye contact with a few of them but was blantly ignored. Paper Source is like being in a candy store for me. There are so many colors and always new merchandise. They have a unique selection of cards, crafting supplies, paper, and gifts. As a person who can't stand mass-produced Hallmark-type cards, I find Paper Source a great place to find supplies to make my own. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because if given a choice, I prefer to shop at a store that's one-of-a-kind, rather than a chain and because I spend way too much unnecessary money here. On a side note, if you're on a budget, before you make a visit to Paper Source, take out your crafting box and see if you really need anything first because no doubt once you enter, you will leave with a bag full of stuff. read more

I use to shop here a year ago and the staff was great but ever since they changed management, the store is horrible. The staff is rude and unhelpful. They really don't want to explain how to do anything. The store is now half the size it was and every thing feels cramped and unorganized. They use to have all these great art supplies and now there gone. They say their craft store but they don't even have modeling clay. They took a really great store and destroyed it. I used to love paper source. I am a high school art teacher and love their slogan: "do something creative everyday". It is to my disappointment that they have become completely over priced. Designing and making something yourself should be less expensive than buying it from a professional, but if you buy your supplies from Paper Source is it equally expensive if not more so. A month ago I purchased a bulk pack of soft white paper from Paper Source at the already steep price of $26. When I returned four weeks later to buy additional paper, the price had gone up to $40 for the same bulk pack of paper. This is simply outrageous. What changed in four weeks that raised the price $14 for a 100 sheets of paper?? Goodbye paper source, I'm headed to Staples where they offer the same paper for $6.79 and give you 25 more sheets with it too. read more

We went here to browse the binders of wedding invitations, thinking we would order some. Turns out the shipping time was longer than we wanted, so we asked casually about doing it ourselves. Holly - I believe the manager - spent at least 1.5 hours with us showing us the most typical way that people do DIY invitations, suggested ink/backing colors, taught us how to do embossing, found the right stamp for us. We spent much less than we would have for ordered invitations plus lots of the gear we bought (heat gun, stamp, glues) we'll use again. They're terrific!!! Yes, a bit pricey, but we were happy to pay for the expertise that Holly shared. read more

I love this place!!! I was walking my dog on Beacon Street a week ago and decided to pop in this store to buy some thank you cards. I fully expected i would have to tie my dog up outside where i could keep an eye on her. But much to my surprise, there was a sign on the door that said dogs were welcome!!!!! Both my dog and I were so excited!!! The staff was very helpful and even charmed my dog with some dog treats as I was paying for my items. I've since been back a second time in one week! Brookline needs more dog friendly stores like Paper Source!!! read more
