Classic Decorators

Need some painting and/or decorating done? Want it done within the next week and don't want to pay…read moreover the odds for it? Then John and the boys at Classic Decorators are for you. I have been using Classic for about 7 years now and they are always my first port of call when the kids have ruined yet another wall of paintwork. Or crashed a skateboard into some gloss painted woodwork. Indoors. I know, I blame the parents too. So John will come out within a day or 3 to give you a quote, all the while co-ordinating another job by shouting into his blue tooth. Is prices are reasonable and cheaper than any other quotes I have had and they will usually be able to schedule you in within a week or so and can supply the materials if you want them t. Trade prices are usually better than retail prices so I go for this option unless I want them to use a very precise shade or specialist paint. Just one word of warning - they aren't the tidiest workers in the world and will paint over anything you leave in the way. So get the plenty of dust sheets and don't leave any family heirlooms in their path and you'll be fine.

You'd think this would make it straight forward to choose paint and wallpaper but it really doesn't. It makes it more confusing, like where do you start? So, that's where Noblett's come in! I had never heard of the place before but apparently it's pretty notorious and is the go to place for wallpaper and paint. On a trip in to town on Saturday we decided to pop in here to have a gander at some stuff. There's roll upon roll of wallpaper over two floors so after about 10 minutes each roll becomes the same pattern and if you stare at them too long you start seeing other things, kinda like Magic Eyes. The choice is endless, so my recommendation (now that I'm an expert) is to go in to Noblett's with a clear idea of what you want. The store is conveniently separated in to different rooms. They do give out samples but you have to ask the staff to cut the sample off the rolls - they seem pretty strict on this as there's signs everywhere. The staff themselves are really helpful. The store is well staffed and there will generally be a member of staff within shouting distance. All in all a really good store - it's nice and personal and still has that family business feel to it.

But there are times when I just need something really small like a tiny pot of white gloss paint or another little bit of black gloss - thanks to the five year old standing on the wet door saddle, exactly where I told him NOT to stand. Or times when I'm really in a hurry to touch up a skirting board before the school run. Yes, I know it's not normal. On those occasions, a jaunt to the cavernous DIY superstores, where I can get lost for hours, just isn't on the cards. That's when I go to my little local place, Decorator's Touch. This is a small shop which I can park right outside so that's time saved before I even go in. It's one of those mysterious little places that seems to have more stock than its space should allow. Paint, varnish, brushes, wall paper, check, check , check. They also offer a full interior design service - curtains, cushions etc. Quite how they manage to pull all that off is a miracle, but manage it they do. The owner is usually behind the counter and is really helpful if you're not sure which product you need. And best of all, he doesn't patronise me just because I'm a laydeee.

The least that can be done to make your place to live is get it decorated a wee bit( with the landlord's permission of course!) to make things less sterile and more conducive to good times! So when I was driving with my friends on their way to their new abode, we went out on a whim and called in here to pick up a few bits and pieces, and I was quite impressed! The staff were helpful and informative, and were ready to guide our bunch of unruly males to the lower cost end of the paint spectrum! There are a wide range of paints we were able to pick from, as well as other wallpapers, paintbrushes and other accessories that would be useful to the more advanced DIY consumer! We were just idiots with brushes, so basic coloured paints were just the ticket for us! I find the likes of Homebase and B&Q almost too large at times, and the customer service is sometimes lacking, so I find places like this most refreshing!
