Botched tragus piercing due to improper jewelry used.
I got my tragus pierced pierced here as I've had other piercings done here previously. I've always felt it was a reputable studio and was pleased with the service. However, this experience has been traumatic and frankly awful.
I chose my bar (a plain titanium silver bar) and was taken to get the piercing done. It was really quick and not painful - I was given care instructions. However within 48 hours, the pain was too much (my whole jaw was aching and the side of my face was swollen) and my tragus ballooned up to the point that yesterday evening I noticed that I couldn't feel the 'back' of my earring anymore.
I realised that it must have embedded; perhaps the bar was too short? and I had no alternative but to remove the piercing. Well... turns out that was rather a horrible ordeal because I pulled out the bar from front to back - no doubt causing trauma to my piercing. I was horrified to see that the bar did not have a typical flat backing - instead it had a tiny diamond jewel.
I contacted the studio immediately on facebook and told them what happened and that I thought the wrong type of jewelry was used. They apologised a bit, the owner of the studio even said "yes looking from the pictures I agree with you" (i have attached a photo of the bar they used, alongside a hideous photo of my ear skin growing over the tragus piercing from the back). The owner, Barbara was apologetic and keen to resolve the issue, which I appreciate.
However, I went to the shop this evening, and the piercer didn't apologise. Not even once. She was adamant that it was the correct type of jewelry and safe to use.
1. I did not pay or choose a diamond jewel bar. They also use externally threaded jewelry, which is an AVOID anyway.
2. the diamond side was inside my ear, and therefore far too small to be used. It was basically asking to get embedded at this point.
The 'head piercer' who botched my ear offered to put in a new bar, but I took it home and said I would do it myself as I don't trust them. They condescendingly said I wouldn't be able to get it in by myself (which I did in fact manage).
I did receive a full refund, but frankly the fact they didn't even acknowledge any wrong doing is upsetting to me. I've had many piercings before (body and ears) and had no issues with healing them.
Unfortunately I would not recommend them for piercings and they've sadly lost a customer. I can't comment on the tattoo experience here, it's probably better - and management is OK. Just need better customer care from the piercing team and also better training standards. read more
