I thoroughly believe in counseling and that therapy is a healthy way to work through challenges in your life. My husband does not agree and it has been difficult to convince him to join me. We were going through a tough patch and my husband went out of his way to research counseling / coaching and found Matt. I was thrilled that he was engaged and excited about the session. He purchased a 5 sessions in advance and we went in optimistically for our first session with Matthew. It's not traditional therapy, which wasn't an issue for either of us, but the whole thing felt awkward and uncomfortable. He didn't really listen to us, it felt like a presentation, and at one point - he had us standing in front of him staring into each other's eyes holding onto each other's butts without talking - just awkward. Perplexed by the positive reviews. First he is not licensed or formally educated in any type of therapy or psychology. When he told us he was upfront and blunt and some people get offended I was happy to hear that as I am the same way. Instead of telling it like it is he made gross and completely inappropriate comments several times in our session making my husband and I very uncomfortable. One comment in particular that really stand out to me- "If you can make a womens eyes wet then you can get her wet down there too." We were dumbfounded that this was coming out of his mouth. None of the issues we had had anything to do with sex but he continued to try to bring it back to that topic. We felt so awkward and it was a terrible experience. Let's start with the fact I've seen a handful of "therapists" since my early twenties- to no avail. My husband and I tried marriage counseling and everything under the moon to "fix" what was unfixable. I called Matthew as a depressed 30 year old with a suppressed self-esteem because of my overly religious husband. I was desperate and lost and needed guidance. Matt worked with me although I had already decided to divorce. He gave me the permission I so desperately needed to find myself and go out and focus on myself, it was liberating! I never thought I'd be giving a parent and marriage counselor my highest marks but here it is. Matt assessed the problems I was having with my wife and daughter. Miraculously, he helped me identify their feelings and address issues in a manner that fostered quick changes in what had escalated to a very bad situation quickly but was fermenting for years. Now, unbelievably, we are one happy family again! I just complement Matt's approach and handling of our situation enough. I was on the brink of divorce and estrangement with my daughter. Poof! Matt is incredible for young couples/newlyweds! How he helped us... I waited 5 months after our sessions with Matt to write this review... we are still benefiting and learning from everything he has shown us and he was exactly what we needed! We are in our late 20s early 30s in a 9-year relationship and found ourselves completely disconnected from each other, fighting constantly and ended with a separation for about a month. We were engaged and owned a home together and my Fiancé had ZERO interest in attending a session and assumed it would be awkward to talk to a stranger about our intimate life. I wish I could post a good review. I really do. Unfortunately, it was the worst investment of a couple hundred dollars for me. We got nothing out of the session that was personalized to our problems and no follow up afterwards. I was really hoping to learn strategies and skills to address some relationship issues but never even got an email I was promised with reading information on the subject. I keep thinking that maybe if we had a better experience with counceling, we could have had a shot at healing and moving forward with our relationship in a positive way. I'm only posting this because I saw all the overwhelmingly positive replies and I think Matt is probably very good at what he does, but in my particular case, I don't think the effort was placed to zone in on our particular issues to help us improve on them and follow up with the first session like was offered. read more
