I was a little hungry and the crêpes sounded delicious, unfortunately they don't make it after 20:00 (it was 20:15) - so if you want one come on time. Had to settle on a cheesecake instead, it wouldn't be my first choice but it sounded more appealing than the other three - it was pretty good but the top layer that I'm still not sure what it was, some kind of egg mousse... Was surely unnecessary. The service was good - one guy behind the bar that was the bartender and the waiter, was nice and helpful. The place was not too crowded and the atmosphere was cool and laid back, I like this place!

I was surprised that this place doesn't open unilateral 10am on a Sunday though, but I here most business are opened for limited hours on Sundays in Berlin. So here's what I had: ASSORTED GERMAN BREAD - complimentary Wow I really enjoyed all the break here! It was fresh and warm and comes with honey and Nutella! Went so well with my meal! Such a treat! BRUNCH MOKKABAR - €9,30 When it comes to bring or breakfast platters, we often find the sweets on one side of the plate, and the greasy on the other. However, the fruits were spread out all over the plate with different savories in between...and I don't mean it in a bad way! I've never seen such a colorful breakfast platter! There was so much fruit of all kind: pineapples, honeydew, apple slices, oranges, grapes, grapefruit, tomato, and kiwi. This plate also has a mozzarella ball and cherry tomato skewer draped in basil leaves drizzled in olive oil. Nearby is scrambled eggs with chopped tomatoes that was made to how I like it: NOT over cooked. They did a great job! On 2 comers of the plate was a sallow of cream cheese, and one part was a huge slice of butter! Oh boy! There was some grilled chicken on 2 placements I the plate as well. It was white meat so a tad dry. However near the center are dipping sauces: honey-mustard and sweet-chili sauce! So wonderful! Oh and there are some tiny egg roll like fried wrap that were tiny and delicious! There was 4. So much going on this dish! I suppose I shouldn't leave out the vegetable garnish: cucumber and lettuce, haha. To me this dish was the map of the world! Such a colorful and delicious variety from so many cultures! Ive been working at several bars since i moved here 2. The place has CAFE in its name. I'd have no issues at all if she simply said "sorry guys, laptops are not allowed" But she kept making 12 yo level smart-ass comebacks with making faces. Idk if it's a turn-on for people from small cities to be treated as shit. But im coming from a metropol even bigger than Berlin. How I love Berlin with its droves of café options. How I love how they all offer wine. Of course I want to start drinking wine at 3 in the afternoon. I'm in Berlin, after all. I visited Berlin last fall with a mission in mind: to finish my novel revisions, so I had to spend the majority of my time there suffering away my days in cafes, bars, etc. (poor me, right?) I'm a sucker for environment when it comes to working, socializing and drinking. Kohlenquelle is not the coziest place in town, but absolutely a place that encouraged my friend and I to sit down, split a bottle of wine (SO CHEAP!) and get to writing. It's so hard sometimes, to be inspired. But not in Berlin. I daresay I could stand on a street corner and be inspired to get the masterpiece that is lurking within out onto the page (or screen, if you will). Although I had a few favorites in Penzlauerberg that had better options for food, Kohlenquelle was just right for its slightly shabby, rustic if you will (those bathrooms are kind of scary), environs.

The place is a little off the beaten path and has a low key neighborhood vibe. I've tried the Pork Goulash (weekly special), Meatballs and Potato Soup with Sausage. All were excellent. Of course, they have a good beer selection as to be expected in Berlin. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. I went when it wasn't very busy and the service was great. I guess I could see how it might be slower at busy times since it seems they have a small staff. In that case I'd just recommend ordering some beers while you wait!

Cafe Chagall is totally magic...it feels like it's been there offering great food and great service since before the war, although I'm betting it wasn't Russian food before the war. A huge bowl of tortilla, a few sprinkles of cheese on top and 4-5 pieces of thinly sliced chicken...dry chicken. (3) Russian dumplings with a side of salad. Meat was flavorful and tasty, but only wished that it was fresh. Lastly, they said only cash AFTER you've eaten everything and ready to pay. Luckily we had barely enough cash to cover dinner.
