Our evening tour of the Louvre was excellent! Our guide, Annali was exceptional. She was extremely knowledgable and passionate about the history of the Louvre itself, and the magnificent, truly special sculpture and art it contains. Our tour hit some highlights of the museum and we stayed until they ushered the crowds out through IM Pei's pyramid. The day of the week (Friday) and evening start (6:45pm) helped us to have a less crowded experience overall, but there are still tons of people. This is not your tour if you want to slowly wander through the Louvre's halls of wonders, which would be a worthy endeavor. It was a whirlwind 3-hour tour with a bright, friendly, energetic, articulate guide-a wonderful taste of a treasure.

This was our splurge of a tour, but it helped us avoid the strikes (limited transport to Versailles) and we got the full attention of our tour guide, Nathalie. We were picked up at our hotel, didn't have to stand in the long lines, and got a wonderful history lesson without straining to hear, and an ability to ask follow up questions. Versailles is beautiful, but having the history behind it helps it take on a deeper meaning, such as everything in life. Nathalie was personable, knowledgeable, and took good care of us. A worthy splurge!

We loved our Hidden Gems tour! Anna-Maria was a perfect guide and Sebastian a fab driver. They picked us up early from our hotel so we started our tour on time. Hidden Gems has the ability to enter the side door so you don't have to wait in line with the hoards of people which allowed us to enter before the rooms were so filled. Anna-Maria was extremely knowledgable. She also took pics of us so we could have some for memories. All in all this tour was delightful and well worth the money. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to go to Versailles stress-free and learn about the palace more details than just touring through on one's own.

Yummy spot for lunch in Giverny. Part of a small inn.

Tucked amongst the buildings on the street, it's almost hard to believe how large the gallery is on the inside as there is so much to see from dresses to accessories to magazines and more. Upon entering, the exhibition starts at the top floor, where you make your way through the building and steadily downwards on a journey through time. This is a fun experience for those who love fashion, history, and art, but there is truly much to appreciate for someone coming in with no prior knowledge or expectation. This gallery is extensive and they change out the pieces periodically, so there's a lot of re-visit value. The gallery goes beyond fashion and has moments discussing Christian Dior's personal life, the building itself, and how the Dior name continues to thrive in modern-day couture. At the end of the gallery they have their own Dior Le Café, which carries both drinks and food, and a mini gift shop section. I found it a great spot to relax and rechage. *Lucky Sando en trio: This trio of sandwhiches was delicious and larger than expected for a tea-time-style snack. The egg-mayonnaise was moist and flavorful, tasting as expected. I enjoyed the smoked salmon and cucumber one which provided a refreshing and cooler-tasting sandwich. The chicken with spices was the most unique one of the three. It had tumeric and other spices that made it stand out. It held the most umami. *Caesar salad with Chicken: This dish was crafted together at table-side which was both unexpected and lovely to experience! I appreciated the different toppings to what I thought was going to be a generic salad, and the overall outcome was very vibrant. The chicken itself is a fully seasoned and cooked fillet, making this dish very filling. *Chocolate Chaud: This is my favorite drink in France, and ordering it here was no different. Deeply rich and made with heavy cream and dark chocolate, chocolate chaud tastes like drinking liquid chocolate straight from a pot. Generally, you can purchase tickets online for a specific date and time with full price being 16 EUR, though there are discounted options available. You can also try your hand for a walk-in visit, though the line can get rather long. I was fortunate enough to enter for free and without a wait, which I am extremely grateful to the team for!

The grounds are just as impressive: beautifully kept gardens, sparkling fountains, and perfectly restored landscapes that make you feel like you've stepped back in time. As someone who loves history, I was in heaven. The palace is filled with artifacts from the Sun King himself, Louis XIV, and the stories about his many mistresses add an extra layer of intrigue. I could have spent hours just wandering the Hall of Mirrors and imagining the lavish parties that once took place there. Marie Antoinette's area, with its charming hamlet and gorgeous gardens, was a highlight for me--so peaceful and picturesque. We spent an entire day exploring and still barely scratched the surface. There's just so much to see and experience! I also have to mention the restaurants on the grounds. The food was surprisingly good--fresh, flavorful, and honestly better than most of what I get back home in America. If you love history, art, or just want to be wowed by breathtaking beauty, Versailles is an absolute must-see. I loved every minute and can't wait to go back!

I've been to Versailles twice in my life, and honestly, it's a place you only need to visit once…read more It's worth checking off, though, that first time, and I was happy to go back on our family trip this month, as my brothers and kids had never been before. I booked tickets online about a month in advance, and it was easy to do--not always a given, as I found when booking the Eiffel Tower and London Eye this same trip. Tickets were €35 each for eight adults and €15 for my six-year-old, with my younger son and niece getting in for free. We set aside a whole day for our excursion from Paris, and we definitely needed it. We were there for over five hours and covered what felt like very little ground. It was kind of a grueling day for everyone, most of all my older son, who got nauseous in the cab ride over and immediately threw up on the sidewalk leading up to the castle. We were lucky enough to miss the heat wave, but it was still brutally hot, and the grounds were so massive and sprawling that no one had the will to really explore them. We did spend a couple hours at the actual castle, though, the infamous, guillotine-worthy Château de Versailles. (My grumpy sick son had some questions about what happened to the people who lived there, and I entertained him with a little history lesson. My husband later reported that another mom was listening in and judging me for my frank description of the French Revolution.) I remembered it from my first visit almost twenty years ago and had the same general reaction, which is that the opulence was impressive and repetitive. You get the idea pretty quickly, and understand immediately why heads had to roll. The private chapel kind of said it all on its own. We didn't go to every room, but we saw plenty and made sure to hit the Hall of Mirrors with its gaudy profusion of chandeliers and gold sculpture. There were a few spaces that incorporated modern artwork, which was pretty cool. When everyone was tired and hungry, we found our way to an Angelina cart and a back room with tables and fans where we were able to sit and eat. There are a number of restaurants on the grounds where you can make reservations, but this worked better for us (and also nothing was available for our huge party by the time I got around to looking). We spent a couple more hours wandering around the garden, but we didn't get particularly far. The garden was beautiful but enormous and short on shade, and it seemed impossible to cross the distance to get to whatever points of interest might be waiting a quarter mile in the sun-scorched distance. The fountains were cool and we did get to see them turn on briefly, though we missed whatever musical fountain show we were supposed to catch. We could not figure out where or when it was happening. We wasted half an hour waiting in line for golf carts before giving up and buying tickets for the train instead, to take us to the Trianon side. It was so hot, all we did was take the train and then start leaving. The train was surprisingly shitty, just a rickety train-shaped conveyance that went around the grounds, making stops at a few noteworthy places. We hopped off at Petit Trianon and walked out, taking a long, pleasant path lined with trees. It was cooler and less crowded on this side of Versailles, and if I were ever to come back, I would spend my time checking out the areas away from the palace. I remember enjoying the Queen's Hamlet on my first visit, and I noticed a lot of family's on bicycles enjoying all the charmingly landscaped open spaces. Versailles is well worth a visit at some point in your life, though I'd recommend against going in summer with small, irritable children. I don't need to see the palace again, but I wouldn't mind another go at the grounds.

I look forward to returning someday to see the restored structure. I am also reminded of a review that is long overdue. My wife and I went to Paris from the United States for the first time but were only able to visit for three days. Because of the short visit, we wished to see as many of the famous Parisian sites as possible. We arranged for a day of sightseeing to visit the Louvre, the Eifel Tour and Notre Dame Cathedral. Our personal tour guide for the day was Sylvanie. You could not ask for a more personable and knowledgeable escort for our journey. Sylvanie was absolutely amazing in her knowledge of everything Parisian as well of her intimate knowledge of the tourist locations. Not only was Sylvanie able to intelligently answer my wife's (who has studied art) questions, she was able to also answer my (no art history what-so-ever) relative simple questions. When I ask why the Mona Lisa is such a popular painting when there are so many more beautiful works in the Louvre, she tells the complete history of exactly why the painting is such a tourist draw (Actually quite an interesting story. You should ask her). When my wife asks about the painting on the opposite wall, the Feast at Cana, Sylvanie doesn't miss a beat and has a vivid story about how France came into possession of this work of art. Our trip to the Notre Dame Cathedral was equally impressive. Her knowledge of the art and history of the cathedral was astounding. I have been remembering quite a lot of my time at the cathedral as I have been watching the news reports of the fire. My wife and I were able to understand so much more of the history through Sylvanie's stories than had we simply gone on our own. Everything about our day was perfectly planned by Sylvanie and was executed seamlessly. She had arranged for car service for us and each time the car arrived shortly after our exit at each location. Our admission to each attraction was pre-purchased by Sylvanie prior to our arrival and we simply followed her into each location and felt like VIPs. It is obvious that Sylvanie worked hard prior to our arrival to make sure that our day was perfect. That sort of perfection does not come easily. My wife and I simply fell in love with Paris and will be returning soon. When we return, we will definitely use Sylvanie's services again. We could not have asked for a more perfect day and her fees were actually quite reasonable. We had a private tour with a lovely extremely knowledgeable tour guide for what it would otherwise cost for a group tour. I would recommend her to anybody wishing to see the sites Paris has to offer.
