What's the Scoop - One scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone.

Their ice creams are supplied by Central Smith and Shaw's Ice Cream which are both local creameries to Ontario. They also sell soft serve, shakes, sundaes, floats, banana splits, and ice cream cakes (with advanced order). For $5, you can get two scoops of ice cream in a waffle cone. We opted for two scoops in a cup ($4). With 75 flavours, it was overwhelming to choose just two flavours, but I settled on blackberry cheesecake and pistachio almond ice creams. The black raspberry cheesecake was just okay; fruity, sweet, in a vanilla base. The pistachio almond was good, with a lot of pistachio and almond pieces in it, and a pronounced almond flavour. The ice cream wasn't the creamiest I've ever had, but it hit the spot when the ice cream cravings hit. Staff were friendly. Cash or debit only. What's the Scoop is a great place to get ice cream at a reasonable price. While there isn't seating, I suggest that you enjoy your frozen treats at the nearby Paris War Memorial Park or enjoy them as you stroll around the town.

The ice cream was tasty and flavourful. The service was good, but they don't actually serve you, they just give it to you at the kiosk. There are a few benches to sit on but don't expect to be sitting inside, or in the shade. The time we came was kinda busy with about a 5-7 min wait, so keep that in mind. If anyone working at "What's the scoop sees this I'd recommend a dedicated place to eat, with some shade! It was quick to order, but the ice cream tastes like any other ice cream shop.

I first heard about Paris GF Marketplace & Bakery when eating at The Cedar House in Paris, Ontario…read more They provided the Cedar House with the really great burger buns and when I commented on how much I liked them, the server encouraged me to check them out. The Cedar House also served their deserts, but I was always too full. Now whenever I visit friends or family in or south of London, I try to stop in Paris at Gluten-Free Marketplace & Bakery to stock up. They have amazing things that I really miss being able to eat; lasagna, perogies and chicken pot pies! I buy as much as I can fit in the cooler bag in my trunk. When I'm working at home, it's great to pop one of these items in the oven and have something homemade for lunch. They have a great selection of grocery items, like a cereal selection you won't see anyplace else. Lots of items to bake and cook with. There are also lots of really good deserts, all gluten-free, like butter tarts and cookies. I have to control myself 'cause it all looks so good and I have a sweet tooth. Last time I got a package of chocolate chip cookies and they were gone a couple hours after arriving at home. I wish I had bought two packages. The staff are super nice and when I mentioned I stop when I'm on the way home to Toronto, they offered that I could always call ahead of time and let them know if I wanted anything in particular, to make sure it's in stock. I thought this was really nice of them, though they always have so much to choose from, it's never been an issue. I have eaten up everything from the last trip, so I'll have to check the holiday hours and plan a stop when I'm visiting family on boxing day.

I had just had lunch and was looking for a gluten free dessert and bread to take hone. However, the grandmother at the back counter (owner?) was perhaps not in a good mood as she asked abbrasively what I was doing at her store. Hmmmmm, I thought it's a gluten free bakery and I'm looking for something gluten free. There was no GF bread. And the owner did not explain why. There was a freezer with GF bread with unhealthy ingredients such as white rice flour and potato starch and sugar. I wasn't able to find any bread with quinoa, chickpea flour, or black beans. There were corn chips marked 50% above price you would find at any supermarket. Anyhow, I purcashed rasperberry tart for $850. The tarts were nothing but sugar and cheap raspberry jam. It was very disappointing. I would say avoid this place if you can.

FOOD: We had come here on a Tuesday afternoon at around…read more12:00 pm for lunch. When we had first sat down, we were told that all guests that were booked for that day were to receive the same type of lunch, which was the Informal Social Tea (Light), which came out to $19.95 per person. We were first given a plate of fruit, which included cut-up pears, cherries, and watermelon pieces. We did find the fruit to be very fresh, and enjoyed the presentation of it, which was nicely-situated on the small dish that was given to us. Next, we were given a dish of six scones, which we thought was quite generous as there were only two of us; a side dish included the devonshire cream and jam for the scones. We noticed that the scones were a bit hard, which tasted like they may have been left in the oven a bit too long as they were dark on the bottom. The taste of them was good though, they tasted fresh and appetizing, with sprinkled icing sugar on the top to sweeten the taste. Afterwards, we were given our tea, which was an oolong flavour, tasting absolutely divine! We loved how fresh the tea was, and how wonderful it went with our meal, such a great flavour. Along with the tea, we were given a small plate of strawberries for my little one that was with us, which we thought was such a nice thought from Judy (the owner). We also received a small dish of vegetables (cauliflower, pickles, carrots and peppers), which were based in a type of vinaigrette dressing. We weren't too keen on this option as we found it to be high on the vinegar-side, but appreciated the effort. The sandwiches were next, and were very appetizing to look at once they reached our table. We had three different types; one was egg salad on a yellow bread that was rolled into pinwheels, another was smoked-beef on toasted rye, and the last was a type of cold-cut with mustard on a rolled-up flatbread. In all honesty, all of the sandwiches were really well-done, with a lot of flavour in each of them. However, the best were the egg salad, which were perfectly rolled, with just the right amount of spice in them, and the smoked-beef on rye, which was grilled to perfection, and piping-hot (temperature-wise). We enjoyed the smoked-beef so much that we asked for more, and was willing to pay for them, but Judy gave them to us for free! Lastly, we received the plate of sweets, which included chocolate cupcakes, marzipan slices, cheesecake squares, ginger slices, and an almond cookie. Judy mentioned how each of these desserts were homemade, and it showed; they each tasted impeccable, boasting a savoury taste that stayed in our mouths long after we left. She was a wonderful baker, and we appreciated the efforts in her desserts! ATMOSPHERE: This tea room was situated on a quiet street in Paris, with ornate looking columns at the front of the home, and a historical feel that boasted a home from the Victorian-Era. We loved the little gate at the front of the home which welcomed us to the entrance, along with the picturesque landscaping in the front. The home itself was absolutely beautiful, with two large rooms at the front for diners, and a sunroom at the back overlooking the water, which is where we were situated. We loved the décor of the home, which had older pictures on the wall, and also the tables and chairs, which were cozy yet traditional. This truly felt like a home that was built in the Victorian-Era, which made us feel that we were dining at that time. It was also peaceful and quiet, which was what we were looking for when we attended. As we were seated near the kitchen, we did hear some extra noise from there however, not too much, only from time-to-time. SERVICE: We were served by Judy, who is the owner of the home and the tea room. She was wearing a beautiful costume reminiscent of the 1850s, which was a long skirt, long-sleeved blouse, and a wonderful brooch at the nape of her neck. We loved how her outfit made us feel even more like we were in the time-period mentioned. Judy was very attentive during our visit, even giving my son some toys to play with in-order to keep him occupied during our lunch. She came over to refill our teapots when needed, and even made us extra sandwiches without charging us. We loved how friendly she was, and would surely want to see her again. COST: Informal Social Tea (Light): $19.95/Each = $39.90 WOULD YOU RETURN? Without a doubt! We really enjoyed our time here, and felt that Judy pulled all of the stops to make sure we had a lunch we would never forget!

Was ok but a little too well done for me. Also came with a big potato croquette that again had lots of cheese in it (not to my taste) and the vegetables were overcooked. The building itself was built in the 1870's and has been a restaurant now for 42 years. It's got quite a bit of charm to it. We ordered their saganaki for an appetizer, and all I can say is "OPA!". It was great! I had not had saganaki in a long time, and that was delicious. Instead of a salad, I tried their soup of the day, which was a Greek soup. Very tasty also. For my entree, I tried their New York Striploin Steak Neptune (that's a mouthful!). 10 oz steak covered with shrimp, scallops, and hollandaise sauce. Sides were green beans and cooked potatoes and carrots. My steak was cooked perfectly, and it was quite good. The carrots and potatoes were also good. For dessert, I tried their cake of the day, which was a vanilla layer cake with a raspberry compote. The compote was delicious, but the cake itself was just a little dry. This place is a hidden gem! Our server was wonderful, and very patient with questions about the menu. The timing on food coming out was also spot on, even though they were very busy with several larger parties. Would absolutely go there again.

Upon entering, I was greeted by a friendly gentleman. While he was serving another customer, I looked at their doughnuts and pastry items. There was a lot of variety, so it took some time for me to decide. Finally, I ordered chocolate glazed doughnut and spinach danish. In the afternoon, I ate the doughnut while my partner ate the danish. He said that he enjoyed it- the outer layer was soft and flaky and the inside had sufficient amount of filling. I enjoyed my doughnut- it was just the right amount of chocolate and the glaze had the right amount of sweetness. However, the texture of the doughnut was a little bit too dense for me, it was not as soft as I thought. The bakery carries other goods (e.g. cookies), food (e.g. sandwiches) and drinks (e.g. coffee). If you are visiting Paris, drop by early in the morning, so that you can pick what you would like to eat or drink!
