Was ok but a little too well done for me. Also came with a big potato croquette that again had lots of cheese in it (not to my taste) and the vegetables were overcooked. Met a co-worker here for dinner recently. Had never been to Brantford - It's a beautiful country drive to get here. The building itself was built in the 1870's and has been a restaurant now for 42 years. It's got quite a bit of charm to it. We ordered their saganaki for an appetizer, and all I can say is "OPA!". It was great! I had not had saganaki in a long time, and that was delicious. Instead of a salad, I tried their soup of the day, which was a Greek soup. Very tasty also. For my entree, I tried their New York Striploin Steak Neptune (that's a mouthful!). 10 oz steak covered with shrimp, scallops, and hollandaise sauce. Sides were green beans and cooked potatoes and carrots. My steak was cooked perfectly, and it was quite good. The carrots and potatoes were also good. For dessert, I tried their cake of the day, which was a vanilla layer cake with a raspberry compote. The compote was delicious, but the cake itself was just a little dry. This place is a hidden gem! Our server was wonderful, and very patient with questions about the menu. The timing on food coming out was also spot on, even though they were very busy with several larger parties. Service is extremely slow, the ambience is painfully outdated, and the menu is uninspiring. I've come for dinner with a group and and brunch, and would not come back again. The food was plain and underseasoned. Brunch was a buffet and understocked with store bought desserts. read more

Excellent food and service. Love the piano soloist. Have never had a bad meal. So much care taken so your experience is perfect. If something isn't quite as expected, tell them, they want you to leave full and happy. We love the non butter spreads for the pre meal bread. My husband isn't a butter lover so the feature spreads are a welcome delight. Very creative. The is an "old school" restaurant, they don't make them like this anymore, great ambiance. read more

Definitly upscale and the goto place for ALL special occasions. The owner Gus makes you feel right at home and ensures you have a memorable event. Large menu with prices one would expect for such a nice place. Wait staff is always attentive to your needs unlike so many other places that don't seem to care. Really nicely appointed and a cosy bar area. Special private rooms can be reserved for large groups. Make this your birthday wish. ! read more

Stopped in for an early dinner. I sat at the bar and was waited on by the owner and staff. Everyone is very personable and take the utmost care. The food is very good. I was served hummus with fresh bread, the hummus was amazing, made in house fresh. I had a my strip with fresh vegetables, absolutely amazing. I've been to this restaurant once, and my experience was "ok", but not impressive enough for me to be eager to come back. The restaurant was mostly empty while we were there and the atmosphere wasn't the greatest. The only cool part was that the Queen has been there decades ago. It doesn't seem the place has been refreshed much since. read more

The owner has delt with me very disappointing on two occasions here both times on arrival so no pretext for the abuse. I foolishly stayed both times as one was my wife's bridal shower. The other stay was also special event. The shower my dinner was not even served to me and I went hungry. I did ask if they could provide something else but they were not willing. Extremely disappointing. Food was mediocre at best. Flatware was cafeteria style. Service was flat and boring. Don't be fooled. Over priced and not worth it. This place is living in the past and needs a reality check. We went to The Olde School to celebrate a special birthday. It was not our first visit but it had been three years since our last. I was disappointed in the experience during COVID. They did have the floor marked out for directions but the staff still came to close for a comfortable seating. They wore proper masks but were still trying to be to attentive reaching in very close several times during the meal. The meal was also disappointing. Three out of four order the prime rib and each thought it was overdone and could have been warmer. Vegetables were sparse, not even a half of a potato each along with three strips of assorted vegetables. We were served a very nice bread with a salmon roe, dill spread but no butter was offered for those that may not like fish. One out of four people ate the spread. The soup offered was delicious but the salads could use an update. All I could picture was Kraft dressing bottles when given the dressing choices. French, Thousand Island, Blue Cheese, Ranch but thank goodness for Balsamic. The menu was limited and I found pricey for the quality of the meal. I do have to give kudos to the staff though, very friendly, efficient, but just to close during this strange time we are living in at the moment. read more

Such A Disappointment! We made reservations at The Old Schoolhouse because they advertised as vegetarian friendly and we even discussed with the reservation person the vegetarian concerns. When we arrived we asked about the vegetarian options and were told we had to ask our waiter. We watched the person go and speak to our waiter and let him know about our request. Our waiter came over 30 minutes later and ask if we were ready to order our food. We asked him what the vegetarian options were and he responded, "I'm guessing vegetables or vegetables and pasta, but now I'm going to have to go and ask in the kitchen!" He came back and said, I was kicked out of the kitchen so what do you want. Since there was only one option this is what was ordered. This waiter was also extremely rude when we ordered drinks as we as what beer they had, his response was, "well what do you want?" The food was okay but the service was horrible. Our waiters name was Nick who was obviously not happy about being there. He made our evening very unpleasant and we won't be going back again! read more
