And some outdoor equipment. A lot of artifacts and recreated rooms to see inside of the buildings. Centers on the homesteading of a James Craig in the 1890's. Everything is close together so U could easily get through it in a half hour. Worth a visit. They have a Sunday market which plays loud pop music and not historic themed.

Pat took us around the museum on a private tour showing and telling us fascinating facts about the specimens they have. Then we went out to the Trent River where he showed is how to spot and find where the fossils might be hidden. We found 80,000 year old clams, ammonites, nautilus', and lobsters. Do not think the Natural History Museum in London or the Met in Manhattan. That would be an - apples & oranges comparison, with the former two leading the way when it comes to museums worldwide. The MOA while not as grandiose as the Met, really stands out on its own showcasing mainly First Nations art along with other various artwork. It is a splendid museum. Budget to easily spend a minimum 3 to 5 hours here but definitely give yourself more time & do not rush. There's a lot to see here. There are guided tours available with your paid entry fee. Check at the front desk for more information. Make a note to also go outside of the museum & check out the Totems. Make sure you have a big brekkie or lunch before coming here. The cafe here sells limited items & you cannot bring drinks or food into the museum. Do check online for opening hours in order to give yourself enough time here. Limited parking is available. I parked at the Student Union building then walked over to the MOA along Main Mall & then through the Rose Garden to get here - approximately a 20 minute walk one way. It wasn't cheap but I was with visitors from out of town, so I didn't mind as I was showing them around UBC at the same time. Honestly, I can't wait to go again.

While the Comox museum may not rival the Smithsonian Air & Space museum, it does have an excellent collection of artifacts and exhibits that are well maintained and organized in a coherent and thoughtful manner. Admission is by donation, which makes the museum a cost-effective way to entertain your family while still learning about Canadian history. Along with the main exhibit hall, the museum maintains a heritage air park where you're able to get up close to vintage aircraft. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and even provided me with batteries for free when my camera unexpectedly died. I would have liked to spend more time at the museum however my girlfriend's enthusiasm for aviation history had worn out, and we had other Canada Day activities to take in.

The current show is focused on the life of loggers and fire watch tower workers. The show is surprisingly interesting - each piece of art builds the story of the industry and the people who work in it. Not a bit of political or environmental jargon here - but I guess you bring your own thoughts on that matter. The woman at the front counter was kind and welcoming. And the art shop had some really great pieces - ceramics, jewelry and the ever-present silk scarf collection. Has an art museum shop ever NOT had a silk scarf display?
