She was informative, helpful, took her time to make sure she knew exactly what I wanted and I couldn't have asked for a better stylist. My hair feels and looks healthier than I could imagine and I'm very happy with the results. Previously, I've had horror stories with stylist and damaged hair, so walking out of the salon with exactly what I wanted was an absolute treat. read more

I've been coming here for over 3 years to see Hollie and she truly performs hair sorcery every time. When I first came to see her, I had layer upon layer of red box dye in different shades and she spent something like 6-7 hours stripping it all out and making it look bright and beautiful. Two sessions later and I was at an ashy, beautiful platinum blonde that I couldn't believe. I was hesitant to commit to three loooong sessions but Hollie's positive and bubbling energy reassured me that the results would be well worth it, and she was absolutely right. Since then I go back regularly to refresh the platinum, and recently had a gorgeous dimensional ashy blonde with lowlights done that just seems to get better and better every day (seriously, I get compliments almost daily. My ego can't handle much more). The staff at this salon are all so patient and kind (I can be super anxious and indecisive about my hair but Hollie handles it SO well), and I can't imagine going anywhere else. I never really cared much about my hair but now I buy the fancy shampoos and leave-in treatments and make every effort to do justice to the artistry that takes place in Hollie's chair. Although I've only ever gone to see one person here, I tend to watch what's happening on the heads of the folks around me and I cannot say I've ever seen someone leave with anything less than STUNNING 'dos (and I'm in that chair for 4-6 hours on average, so I see a loooooooot of folks). 10/10, highly recommend read more

Went with the apprentice Eric to save a bit of money. Would not recommend. He was very gruff and had no bedside manner. Went for a Saturday appointment and it was clear that he was eager to leave to go out. Went for a trim and a clean up of my undercut. Trim was good but the undercut was horrible. Asked for a fade but just for a hard looking line instead. Will have to go to a barber to have it fixed. My blow dry was rushed and frizzy. Didn't even bother to get him to fix it because I didn't want to deal with the inevitable eye roll. He just wanted to leave. Better to go somewhere more expensive and enjoy the service. read more

This place is pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for. I've been coming here a while now, and every stylist has given me a haircut that I was happy with. I've had Brionie and Keith (they're not currently working here). And my last appointment was with Charlotte, who was super friendly and just really knew what she was doing. I've referred coworkers here after they complimented my hair. They got different stylist, but all walked away happy. The place is quite chic and in a styiish part of town. He always gives me a great hair cut and he always provides unique ideas for my hair. I feel like the service is personalized for me and my hair type. Josh is professional and he is fun to be around. Nathaniel is a wizard... He did some magic on my hair! I am visiting from out of town (originally from TO) and this is what I miss most about not living in the city-- talented hair artists! I only had to briefly describe what I wanted and showed a photo or two... And presto! I got exactly what I asked for. Soft long layers, and not too much cut off. I have found my new hair stylist and will have to plan more frequent trips home to get my hair done... Uhh.. I mean.. to visit my family Thanks Nathaniel for an excellent experience! I was looking for a new stylist and after reading some reviews I decided on Parlour Salon. Josh was very kind, creative , and did an amazing job. I am a girl with medium-long hair and I have had bad experiences at other salons in the past. I asked Josh not to cut too much of my hair because I am trying to grow it out for my wedding. He didn't take more than he had to and he gave my hair great shape and volume. I couldn't be happier with him. He's easy going and he cuts hair well. I am glad I found him! read more

These girls are great. Megan regularly does my colour, and Hannah does my cuts. I've been coming here for a while now, and finally decided to write a review. Finding a hair stylist is such a frigging chore, and although Parlour East is quite the hike from my place, I keep coming back because the girls do my hair EXACTLY the way I like it, every single time. Megan is really sweet and really knows her colour. Apparently I have some really stubborn greys that require a special concoction to cover, and Megan knows how to take care of them. I actually hadn't exactly picked up on it myself, and Hannah noticed them... Megan immediately went to work on fixing them up, insisting that I leave with perfect colour. Also, I'd had a bit of a challenge getting an appointment, and Megan put a note on my file that I should be squeezed in anytime I need my colour touched up. Thanks girl! Hannah. OH HANNAH. You are simply the best. What I love about Hannah is that she is a perfectionist, and she does EXACTLY what I want. If there is a single, solitary hair that is not perfect (particularly with my bangs), she fixes it immediately. She fusses and fiddles until everything comes out just the way I like it. She's great with her consultations, and adjusts to accommodate your every desire. She also has a great eye, and vision. I can't say enough. Just thanks! Occasionally the person answering the phone leaves something to be desired in the way of customer service, but only if it's a random person. If it's Lorena (I think that's her name!), she's great. And as a matter of fact, once I came and got my hair done and forgot my wallet (gasp!)... I was super frazzled, and she totally put me at ease, and told me that since I'm a regular customer she had no problem letting me get my services (cut + colour) done and that I could pay later (THANK YOU!!!) Overall, I highly recommend my girls to anyone... just please don't make them too busy for little old me! (Selfish, I know!) I can also say that I've watched Cheryl do lots of cuts for girls with curly hair (which I hear is difficult) and she always does an awesome job. She really knows her stuff. read more

I went for the first time to Parlour Salon, and was not disappointed. I got a haircut from Karissa, who is super easy to talk to and did a great job. My full highlights was done by Dominque, and I have never had someone be so meticulous with highlights (and I've had it done many, many times). I asked her to go as blonde as possible in one sitting and she came through! I was so happy and have had many compliments over the past couple days. Yes, the place is a little on the pricey side, but you get what you pay for. Dominique spent longer than anticipated on my hair and I got what I wanted, so there is no complaints about that here. I went to the Salon 2x this week. Last Tuesday, I wanted to get a haircut really badly but Ryan, my selected stylist said it would be better if we get it done after I get my colour done to keep the hair length - which was today, Friday. I was happy about that because he had the concern but I was wish I was informed on the phone (I called them before coming over). I live 20 mins away. He suggested that we go for a balayage on my next appointment and I mentioned that I want my hair to be light but not looking cheap orange. I was really looking forward for my colour appointment but due to hunger, I came 10 mins late for my 5PM appointment. It was good, Ryan was able to get rid of my old hair colour, which I really loved but the balayage looked more like an ombre and the worst part was it turned orange rather than blonde. My hair was far from the picture we selected to imitate and I was obviously not happy about it. I only do my hair once a year and I spent a good amount of money at Parlour today. He explained that what I like could be achieved after another session of colouring and it could have turned orange because of the previous hair colour. I asked on how I can make it more "ashy" but he only suggested the purple shampoo and let the sun do the work and I doubt this. I wish I could have been given a better idea of what to expect. I don't really know what to feel about this but I'm definitely not happy. They offered a glass of water but for the entire two hours of being there, I got no water and to top my day off, I got a parking ticket. What a day. read more

Worst experience at a salon. Had read great reviews about this place and figured I'd give it a go. Went to get colour and balayage. Provided a picture. She never spoke to me and looked miserable the entire time. Felt so uncomfortable. The colour looked terrible with 90s streaks very sloppy. I work in a salon as an aesthetician the other stylists said it looked like I had done a really bad job on myself. After spending 180 on what looked like I had done myself I also left with dye all over the side of my face. I called to complain and they were wiling to accommodate me but I really had no desire for her to touch my hair or sit there feeling uncomfortable again. Had to get it fixed at another place which looks a 100 times better then the disaster I left with Sunday. Will never go back. read more

To be fair, I got my hair highlighted by Jackie and I absolutely loved it. I loved it so much that I went again after 3 months. Sadly she had left :( I should have done the same, but I tried to trust the senior stylist Nathaniel. He was pretty nice but my hair colour looked nothing like what I asked for... I let him know immediately and we booked another appointment to fix the colour. When I went back, he insisted that my hair was "too dark" to be coloured dark blonde. Later, he consulted another stylist. This time around she gave me the shade I asked for but the highlights were too chunky and she somehow decided thatI only get half highlights ( though I paid for full head!) Now my hair is tired, with chunky blond highlights (half head)and I am 300$ poorer:(( Never again!!! read more

TL;DR: Asked for light brown, got black, shampooed out the black to get dark brown/red and paid 175$ for it. The worst salon experience I've ever had. I went in for an appointment with Anette. My hair had blonde highlights that had grown out about an inch and a half. I told my stylist I was hoping to eventually go back to my natural colour (natural brunette on the lighter side). The plan was to put a light brown colour over the part of my hair that was blonde and to (most importantly) not touch the roots as I clearly stated I've been trying to grow my hair out. So, she does the colour, leaves it, washes and begins to blow dry. Then I noticed my hair was MUCH darker than originally planned. I would describe the colour as closer to black than anything else. I told her no, this is too dark. And she tells me that 'she noticed I was tan so I clearly spend time outside and my hair will lighten up with the sun.' I ask if she can just fix it right now and she says okay, we'll shampoo. So we shampoo for about 30 minutes. At this time she also runs downstairs and grabs something to put in my hair, doesn't tell me what though. I don't know what it was- a chemical to make my hair lighter/strip the colour I guess? Anyways, she blow dries my hair for the second time with the help of someone else (as the salon was closed at this point, I'm assuming they wanted to leave), and she asks me how the colour is. I said it was fine (even though it was still WAY too dark, I just wanted to leave). After its dry, she brings the original swatch colour we decided on and compares it to my hair saying it's pretty similar and that my hair will get lighter as the colour fades. This made me feel bad about saying anything as if I asked for this! True, the colour will eventually fade, but I paid for light brown hair! Not black that will "eventually fade!" The most irritating part is that my roots were dyed even though I specifically asked her not to touch them and they now have a red tint to them. I've been growing my hair out for 2 months trying to get back to my natural hair colour and now I have to restart that process. My appointment ended up lasting almost 3 hours- almost an hour past closing. I'm a student and really can't afford to pay 175$ for a dye job that looks like it's a crappy box dye. I was too intimidated to ask for a refund or a discount and I still tipped. read more

Great pixie/bob cut from Cheryl for my hair donation! It was my first visit and I was donating my hair. Cheryl did multiple braids to maximize the donation. I showed her what I wanted and she was able to match the same look except tailored to my hair/face shape. Loved the new cut and got some great feedback too. She also listened to my request to get my bangs and sides a little shorter too. The space was bright, clean and sleek. Lots of magazines to choose from. read more

The only woman I trust with my hair has opened the East end Beach version of this salon. I happily followed her out there and found the new space lovely, clean and consistent with the Parlour look on Ossington. I think I like it better than the Ossington space but truth be told Cheryl could cut hair out of the back of a van and I'd give it a good review. That said, the coffee offered was good, the space lovely and bright and the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because it's really far from my end of town. Okay, so this is following up on my earlier review. This time it was bad. I won't be going back. I went in to shake up my hair. I am completely regretting my decision now. My hair was waist-length and I decided I wanted one of these textured, shaggy, shoulder-length hair-dos that are so "in" right now. A fun summer style, really textured and layered, etc. The stylist, who I'd rather not name, was a wonderful person -- very friendly and chatty. I showed them at least 15 pictures of what I want on my phone. They told me that they'd cut NINE inches off. NINE! How exciting! I was thrilled. I've had this done before, going from ultra-long to short. Usually, I feel well taken care of and am usually there for about an hour and a half. This time, a coffee, shampoo, massage, cut and style took 30 minutes. What?! 30 minutes for that much of a change? Yep. Arguably, I went on a Sunday afternoon and perhaps the stylist wanted to leave early for the day or something. I don't know. But I was completely rushed through. My hair was two inches shorter on one side than the other, which the stylist covered up by curling it so I didn't notice until I washed it two days later. It was three inches shorter overall than I'd asked for. I specified VERY specifically I didn't want it straight across on the bottom AT ALL. AT ALL. I have thick, naturally curly hair that needs to be a bit undercut or else it does this flippy thing like an elementary school girls' hair cut. I didn't want this. I explained it very specifically. I wanted layers and texture. I left with a one-length bob. Honestly, I had to take scissors to it myself to texture the bottom because I disliked it so much. I not only felt like I was rushed through, but left with a cut I was very unhappy with and not even close to what I asked for. This was a senior stylist and was a $95 cut. Now I have to go somewhere else to pay the same to get it fixed. read more

Experience was okay at best, it may be the same building it used to be but the service has dropped immensely. There was a mixup with timing which may have been on my end, but nobody did the reminder call that I was told I would receive. That would have saved the stress of trying to fit me in when I came, at the time I was fairly certain they told me to be there. While the people doing the services are very personable, reception did little to ensure the visit was pleasant, even after things starting out poorly with the time issue. Didn't even offer a coffee while I waited - something I knew they did from previous visits. Despite going to the top colourist I did not get what I asked for at all. The result was nice, but nowhere near as nice as what I asked for. My cut is just okay - not that you could tell when it was professionally styled before I left. While the stylists make your experience with them great, experience only goes so far. The reception and overall quality weren't terrible, but not worth the price. Perhaps I should have moved when Cheryl left. read more

Overall excellent experience. Came in as a groupon customer, but was treated happily as a normal customer with my coat taken and really friendly easygoing stylist Ren. The salon uses Kevin Murphy products - very luxe. Happy with my haircut, Ren took time and care to make sure I was happy, and recommended modifications to my initial idea that would better work with my lifestyle. The place is very clean and open, front desk was super friendly and accommodating. I had assumed I would be with one person throughout the service, but I was actually with 2 different people which is totally fine, but I prefer to have the same colorist and stylist. I was really happy with my hair cut and colours. The only downfall was the price, they never asked me if I preferred a senior, intermediate or junior stylist/colorist, they never told me my options they just scheduled me with both seniors so I ended up spending more than I ad budgeted. I really really enjoyed my stylist, and my colours came out very nicely. Just a bit steep in pricing. read more

I've had my hair cut here twice by Janice W. Every time my hair has looked AMAZING. I can't really say much more than that. Somehow my hair has become wash n' go after Janice got rid of some of the bulk and recommended a great Kevin Murphy product to get rid of frizz (pricey but worth it). I also really appreciate her demeanour. She's polite and chatty but not overly chatty. I like that she concentrates to get it done and she's a perfectionist. She's more expensice as she's a senior stylist but, again, worth it. Last time I was there, I also had my hair dyed by a lovely colourist whose name I can't remember (Jodi?). I decided to get my hair coloured (ombre) last-minute while getting it cut (so without booking it first), and they made time for me to get it done. Since I hadn't booked it, they were busy and I had to wait a long time before getting blown out at the end. I didn't consider this to be their fault but they called me and offered me a free blow-out for the inconvenience of having to wait. A+ customer service and vibe. Love this place. read more

Got my hair highlighted and cut by a senior stylist recently. I asked for 3-4 inches off which I was wary about seeing my hair is thick and poufy at the ends. I ended up getting 5-6 inches cut and it does not work with my thick hair... major regret that so much was chopped off. I also got subtle all over highlights which are fine- no real complaints other than the price... The total for a cut and colour (colour was put on after my long hair was cut) was $315. (Cut was only $60) I have never paid so much for highlights on just past shoulder length hair. read more

I'm honestly a bit upset after my visit yesterday. I went in with long hair, way down my back for an appprentice cut. I've had many apprentice cuts before and they've always taken a lot of care and been supervised throughout the whole process... My hair needed a good cut to get rid of the straggly ends and I was aware it needed to lose some of the length which I was fine with. I said I wanted to lose the ends but for it to still be a few inches past my shoulders. My hairdresser (not sure of his name) seemed to take this on board and sort of pointed to where he thought my hair started to look unhealthy. Before he started to cut he did check again and showed me on the front of my arm where he thought he should cut it to. I think this is where the miscommunication was as I clearly wasn't aware of this in relation to where my hair came down to on my back. As he was cutting away, it did seem fairly short but still felt as if it was past my shoulders. I have my hair shorter around my face and he didn't show me the back when he was done so as I left I wasn't aware of how short it was- collar bone length. I was prepared to lose 4-5 inches but not the 10 he cut off- I just don't understand how that happened. He had acted like he knew exactly what he was doing but clearly hadn't and noone had made any attempts to supervise him apart from while my hair was being dried - a lady came over and told my guy (not very subtley) that he had basically spent too long on my hair and someone else was waiting so he ended up rushing styling my hair. After washing and styling my hair straight at home, I realised that the dramatic layers we had discussed in the picture I showed were non existant and my hair was all one length at the back, which looks hideous on my hair at this length. I know it grows back but I am getting married next summer and want my hair to be long for my wedding and now I'm going to be worrying about it growing in time. Plus my hair needs a lot of styling when it is this short and I just don't like how it looks. On contacting the salon to ask them to add some layers in the back, I was told that because I had only paid an apprentice to cut it, it could be a bit 'hit and miss'. I said I wasn't comfortable with him cutting it again and they said that they would supervise him doing it if I went back as they'd charge me extra for someone else to correct it. AMAZING! I moved to Toronto about 2 years ago and have had the worst time trying to find a Salon and stylist that would be able to match my stylist back home. I AM SO GLAD I TRIED PARLOUR! I even was able to book my appointment online! From start to finish they were more than accommodating for my schedule and personal needs. My previous salon experience in Toronto was less than satisfactory- having tried 2 other well known names in the downtown area, I felt my appointment was hy - jacked by the stylists visions and I always left with more problems (not to mention a huge bill at the end and not at all what I was asking for). I came in for my appointment about 5 pm on Friday to meet my stylist/colourist/miracle worker Ryan. He was very friendly and positive towards my hair situation which I didn't realize was in rougher shape than anticipated. I was waiting for the famous speech about colour corrections and to book back more time at a later date but to my surprise Ryan was confident he could work some magic and get me headed back in the right direction and ultimately accomplish exactly what I wanted with my second visit. I was amazed with the results! It turned out even better then we had planned. Also, Since my situation was a little complicated it took more time than expected and he even stayed late to finish. I didn't feel rushed or like I was inconveniencing him (even tho for a Friday night I must have been). The owner of the salon even stayed to help us with the blow dry. The store had just opened, and they had a promotion - free wash & blow dry. I was going out that evening, so I thought "why not". I would see what their cuts were like. The girl who was going to wash & blow dry doesn't cut hair. So I asked if someone could cut my hair so I could see how good they were. Jordano did an excellent job. However, when it came time to pay, they charged me for the wash & blow dry plus the cut. When I questioned it, they said that if I had a cut, the others wouldn't be free. Hmm.....I thought this was a poor beginning for their new shop. I belong to the local gym and told the others of my misleading experience. The owner was present as well. read more

I was compelled to write a second review for Parlour because it's just that amazing. This is Part 2 - and the happy ending - of a story I like to call The Worst Haircut of My Entire Life. For Part 1, refer to my review for Epic Hair Salon in Scarborough (and make sure you avoid at all costs). For background, I've been to Parlour 4 or 5 times now and have never left disappointed. I've even had multiple stylists - Hannah, Janice, and today Sean - and they have all done a wonderful job. My visit today was to fix my botched, awkward haircut that looked like a cheap wig. THE GOOD: - I love that you can book your appointment online. This salon knows what's up in 2015. Last night (Friday), I was able to log on and score a 10am appointment for today (Saturday). - This salon manages to be hip and posh while still making customers feel right at home. I was greeted by the receptionist as soon as I came in, while another stylist took my coat and offered me a coffee or tea. - My stylist, Sean, was a true hair artist - I knew right away that I was in good hands. He understood my qualms with my hair (it was so heavy and paintbrush-like at the ends), and recommended the best way to keep my length while still giving it volume and movement with layers. When styling it afterwards, he shaped my curls so perfectly and effortlessly. - Best of all, after I explained to Sean that I was here to fix a haircut gone horribly wrong, he recommended that I save money by going with a maintenance cut - $20-25 cheaper than a regular haircut. This was much appreciated and also saved me time - I was in and out in half an hour. THE BAD: - I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Parlour. 5/5 stars! Whether you are looking for a trim, dye job or drastic hair change, I highly recommend checking out Parlour. read more
