Beautiful and Quiet Central Park in Valladolid - Great Place to Relax and Observe the Local Life!
The Plaza and Parque Francisco Canton is more commonly known as Valladolid's main square, central park, plaza principal or zocalo.
The park is absolutely lovely. It is well-maintained and has lots of large and beautiful trees and lush foliage. In the centre of the park is a beautiful water fountain, and various paved pathways stem in all directions from the centre that are lined with bench seating and unique "lover's chairs." On the south side of the park, stands the gorgeous San Gervasio Cathedral and the Palacio Municipal (government building) is on the east side.
I really enjoyed sitting and relaxing in the park during the day, and the atmosphere was so tranquil, peaceful, and quiet. It is a great place to observe the local life around you. I also enjoyed strolling around and checking out the various food and handicraft vendors that set up along the pathways on Sundays. At night, the park becomes a lively and bustling place full of activity, as the locals gather and meet there to chat and hang out.
In the evenings (mostly on the weekends), there is often local musical or dance performances happening on the streets surrounding the park. During my stay in Valladolid, there was an amazing traditional dance performance for Mexican Revolution Day. There were chairs set up all the way down the street and the area was packed with locals. It was such a great experience!
I highly recommend spending some time in this park when you are in Valladolid! read more
