Went to get certified copies of my divorce and child custody when all the clerks were huddled together having a side conversation till another clerk from another area told me to walk up to window #5. The clerk had even noticed the others weren't Interested in calling me up as I stood there patiently waiting to be called. The man behind the window with glasses who looks like he woke up and then whatever he could find was just not helpful. I asked for a certified copy and anytime I would ask I question his reply would be " I don't know" or " I don't know what you need". And I understand legal papers can be complicated but when you sit behind a court house desk, your job shouldn't be, to look annoyed bc you're at work or the mere presence of someone paying for verified copies. Honestly, there are always people lined up to do someone else's job and better. If he hates his job then this isn't the place he needs to be at. read more

Parking does suck. Read the signs carefully. Expect to go around the block at least twice. Bring pocket change. A lot of it. Put in more time than you think you need. Things work slow here. I think there are meters that take cards, on the side next to the police station. The building entrance is on Walnut-the only street you can't park on...figures. So once you find your space, expect to walk. Yes, there are doors on every other side of the building, but you can't go in through them! Not the friendliest place. How do you get where you need to go? Follow the colored lines on the ground! Which color? That you gotta ask someone. You have to ask for traffic school IN PERSON if you contest your ticket, they won't just offer it to you. Oh, and no breakdancing. No joke. I wanted to take a picture of the sign, but the Sheriff said no pictures. I think another lucky yelper was able to click a pic! read more

My son paid for his traffic ticket but failed to pay for driving school at the same time. So now it's me, good old dad that has to go back to this brain trust of geniuses. Back to the "land of total unhappiness" to say the least. 1- park car 2-go in side 3- detection station Now here's where it gets (?), While my son and I are standing there, with no one else either in front or behind us. I was amazed and awed that we were not seen. Come on now. Your (detection crew) is posted right by the front door. As I walked in you should have felt a breeze, heard traffic noise become louder, bright light coming in. Try getting a 7/11 ding dong door chime. The woman running the detector was beyond twilight zone. My son and I are standing at her eleven O'clock position and totally invisible to her. Now the officer in tan (sheriff?) was engaged in conversation with another officer in blue, (either a court LEO or court security office). It was that officer that first notice us, why? Easy....Because his situational awareness was more acute and he was facing towards the front door. When he alerted the other officer in (tan), It was like officer in (tan) were a sloth. From the time officer in blue told officer in tan, that time was rather long. Officer in Tan was more concerned about completing his conversation with officer in blue. But the longest time was from the time officer in tan took to tell detector operator. I've heard of zoning before, but this was reminiscent of my high school years in the 70's. 3-Traffic windows One traffic window closed. The others opened. OK again this is the best time ever to go because zero people in any lines. As we face the window, we gave the young girl our paper work. While waiting I observed a standing poster with traffic school info. I instructed my son to capture the QR code. A loud strength voice came from waaaaaaay down the hall. She said "NO TAKEN PICTURES." My son retorted back. "I'M NOT." At this time I snap my head around to see who's commanding my son. This makes no sense. Why put up a QR code, then tell people not to take pictures. Totally lam. As we left this arena of confusion. I instructed my son to look for signs indicating no pictures allowed. Sorry, didn't see any. So this begs the questions. Is QR scanning considered taken a picture? Well I did we walk in and didn't get shot and we did walk out with out getting shot. That makes this legal excursion a 5-stars in my book. I recently moved and was having some trouble with a jury summons. I would just like to give some major props to Arlene (I hope I got your name right). She was incredibly friendly and super helpful. I tend to freeze up and get nervous when it comes to filling out forms, but she was patient, and I really appreciate it. The courthouse could be a little irriating (the elevators literally took 10 minutes to arrive and there wasn't access to the stairs on the 5th floor for some reason), but it's people like Arlene who made an otherwise unpleasant experience pretty great. Even though I always get picked for jury duty, I consider Pasadena Courthouse to be a lot more humane and efficient than the one in downtown L.A. It's close to and within walking distance of a shopping center, 85 degree bakery, and lots of small eateries, which makes this the ideal location for jury duty. The guards and all staff that I met here have been cordial and professional. Here, I met the most friendly judge too, so it's been nothing but pretty positive experiences for me. Oh, and you get to dine in Kaiser Permanente's exclusive staff dining across the street if you're a juror, which is pretty good incentive. I'd say if you've got a chance, and need some paperwork done, come early - they open at 8 a.m. and always bring a smile. They also have a free legal consultation on third floor (double check the floor #), so if you have a case against you, it's a good place to start too. Oh, and last but not least, the library right across the street is a treat as well. read more

So now I have to refile because some paper pusher can't read? It's bs, I'm on the other side of the country and did exactly what I was supposed to and nobody there has to fix THEIR ERROR. I have gotten to know all of the first floor, Dept L on the 2nd, Dept K on the 4th, and to top it all off, I had to go chase down my file for the court clerk because "Greg" was handling the desk for only one day and didnt want to work. The judge in dept M is miserable! She told me: "pay $268 by June 8th." Simple right? No she INSISTED i write it down with the pen and paper they had on the table....um no thank you. I wrote it on my phone in 2 seconds and this miserable lady stared at me and look around like i was stupid becuase i didnt want to write it down...the baliff handed me the pen which i grabbed with my sleeve and put it back down on the table. Worst. Courthouse. EVER. I can not BELIEVE that this rude, price gouging, unprofessional, hell hole has more than one star. I grew up in Pasadena, so I've been here on several occasions over the years for various traffic related tickets. Of all the courthouses that I've been to, this one is by far the WORST. EVER. I'd rather go to court in Mexico lol. First of all...parking is atrocious!! Be prepared to spend between $10-$15 for parking unless you are lucky enough to find a metered spot. And if you do find a metered spot, make sure you check the signs because they will give you a ticket if your meter expires....and it will expire because this place is slower than a dead snail. So expect to waste a few hours of your life. The line in the morning is ridiculously long..and not just long, but slow AF. But you come to expect that at court, so you suck it up and spend the better part of your morning taking off your belt and jewelry and pace makers (only slightly exaggerating about the pace maker) so that you can go through the metal detectors. Once inside, do yourself a favor and ask security where you should go because anyone else you encounter in that place will stare daggers through you like you're a criminal and probably give you incorrect info to either A) amuse themselves and make your life suck as much as theirs seems to or B) not know the answer to your question because they don't care, and have no intention of helping you. In all fairness, the judges are typically lenient enough--at least in traffic court. Now you will wait 2 hours to see the judge for them to tell you to pay $1,000 or come back in 3 weeks and pay $1,000...but they are typically accommodating when it comes to community service and payment plans. But make sure you write down everything the judge says because the useless, incompetent, lazy, hostile, unprofessional clerks will not give you all the info you need and it will end up costing you another 2 trips to the court house and another $100 in fees after you already paid (personal experience). I could go on and on and on about the unnecessary hostility, the painfully long lines and wait times, and the over all unprofessionalism of the clerks, but lets just sum it up to say that.... IF SATAN HAD A VACATION HOME, IT WOULD BE THE PASADENA COURT HOUSE. read more

I was trippin' all for nothing. I got here at about 7:45am, the assembly room opens at 8:15am--I was the second person to arrive--even through all of the metal detectors/security systems, etc... We shot the shit for a bit, and there was a SLOW stream of other people walking in. Man, I guess the rain really helped in this case. I've been to this court several times, and it's usually very busy. This time around, it was dead. Which was cool, I wasn't in the mood for foolishness. Once the room opened up, we signed in, and had a "crash" orientation session. The room is pretty pimp. They have couches, chairs, tables, magazines--and free internet! I was able to knockout three Yelp reviews during my stay. The even sweeter news, was that we were told that if the "phone call" for jury selection didn't come through, we would all be excused, and our jury duty service completed. Sure enough, at about 10:15, we were all excused. All 12 of us. Yup, it was that dead. I was dreading it all for nothing. Deep down, I doubt I would have been picked. Have you seen me? Ok.... so who really likes going to court? Not me. but this day... was LOVELY!!!!!! I got a ticket for throwing a cigarette out of my car window while driving through rosemead. Originally, my first court date was at the Alhambra courthouse, which is smaller, but more personable. But since budget cuts are in play, i received notification to go to the Pasadena Courthouse. $8 for parking so F you already. LOL when i got there, this worker says, look at this list to make sure youre in court today. of not, then go stand in the line behind the yellow blockers. Im standing in line, not knowing what im doing there, when another employee is working hsi way up the line, getting peoples tickets and verifying their stuff in advance. when he comes back with mine, he says, "You should be in court." so he shows me another list that i was supposed to check. So F YOU to that first guy that sent me to the wrong spot. Now im in court, staring down this pig that gave me a bs ticket. he gives his story, i counter with mine, but i show proof that my window was busted and i had ordered a new window regulator at the time, and even showed a coupy of that nights weather report that showed it was raining so i couldnt have tossed it out the moon roof, and i showed pictures of my 2 ash trays in the car. he couldnt say sh*t when the judge let me fo for proving my innocence. so HAHA Punk! stick your quota up your arse Pig. I had a run in with PPD for a traffic citation which turned into a fix it ticket. Well I was an idiot; I had project deadlines and worked 15+ hours for a few days on end and missed sleep and the ticket deadline. So I went to the court house and asked what I needed to do to resolve the issue. They told me I needed to pay some outrageous fine or get a court date. Well it has been years since I was in traffic court and all I could remember was that it took all day. So while I decided I received a notice to pay the fine from a company called GC Services. It looked at first to be from the courts but it is in fact from an agency that has been outsourced for this task. I did a little research and found that they have offices in the court house and sometimes will not identify themselves as GC employees in the event you assume they are city employees. Do not listen to them, get your day in court and ask the judge to reduce the fine. I had my day in court at the Pasadena City Court House which was months after I asked for it, I guess there is a backlog. The place is run down and dirty. But what do you expect from a municipality. There is no incentive for improvement or anything beyond general maintenance. I understand all that costs money and if they did purse such a venture they might have to raise our taxes. So I am good with the appearance. Parking is a pain the ass around this place. The closest wanted $20 for the day, I did find a parking garage close by to the court house. It is next to the police station and half the day cost me $7. The elevator was broken to stairs, no big deal. If you need cash, hit the ATM in the police station before you go to the court house as there is no ATM in there. If you park at a meter, tell the Sheriff in your court room and you will be allowed to refill the quarter monster while you wait your turn. I hear you will need to bring lots of quarters. Before entering you need to remove your belt (Both males and females.) and anything that might set off their scanner, which from the looks of it is old. I was concerned my collar stays might set it off but they didn't. The court room itself was clean but the seats worn out like two decades ago and plenty of carved in graffiti. Bring a magazine or book in case you are at the end of the line. But you might also want to keep an ear open for how the judge rules in cases similar to yours. The judge was very efficient and professional. He did not try to preach to people, he just asked straight forward questions and moved the docket along. My case came up and he verified that my vehicle complied with the code.....I really hated taking out the missile launcher and .50 cal. He reduced the fine to less than 10% of what GC Services said was the fine without me asking. You are then told to wait outside for your name to be called and pay the fine. Once again, do not pay GC Services a dime. Get your day in court. Okay, I've completed my 5 day Jury Duty and can now speak on my experiences at this Courthouse. Now I'll be speaking of both the Building and staff, so please understand that not both are related to my ratings. Starting with the staff, I believe the staff at this Courthouse are probably the most courteous among the Courts I've served in. The Jury Room is clean, has internet service, television, and reading items to keep you busy for the next 7 hours. Once selected for the Jury pool, I went to Courtroom O and was excited to serve, if for anything, to lean about the criminal justice system. Well, it was close, but I was selected as alternate due to someone's vacation plans, so I kind of made the list of 12, and was a plus 1 alternate. Judge Kin is a young and well spoken judge, and his staff are kind and are in control of the Courtroom. Now, as for the building, this is where it gets dicey. During the presentation of evidence, the smoke alarms went off, disrupting the Courtroom, and causing a half hour delay. Okay once is understandable, but the next day, it happened again; twice is too much. The restrooms smell of urine, possibly because of no one flushing, or maybe lack of sanitation. In any event, the safety of the Courthouse is drawn into question, from both a fire and public health standpoint. At the end of my Jury Service, I appreciated my experience serving, but wished the funding to better maintain these institutions was also provided. read more

Never imagined myself writing a review for the courthouse, but it was an interesting experience that I wanted to share. I had a texting ticket that I had a trial date for in Courtroom M. Arrived a little earlier, parking on the street is usually 1-2 hours, unless you park further like I found 4 hour street parking in front of the Pasadena Senior Center. $5 is the cheapest option for 4 hours. the App for parking didn't work. I was done in 2.5 hours, so I think 3 hours is safe. 9:30 arrive, 10am court scheduled, out by 11:45am. I think everyone was done by 12pm as I was one of the last cases. In any case, if you tell the bailiff, they let you go add coins to your meter. Judge was extremely professional and polite to all parties and relatively well organized. Judge was an older gentleman, seems like the permanent judge for M is a different lady. Security was very helpful too. If you plead no contest/guilty, the judge most likely would reduce your fine by $20 for saving the court's time. If you pleaded not guilty and argued your case, you won't get the discount afterwards if you are found guilty. I won't go into details of my own case but it was a positive result. when I was there, I dropped my airpods case and didn't think that my airpods would fly out. After I left, I thought my airpods were at home, since "Find my iPhone" said that was the last location. Went home and couldn't find it. Headed back to court 1 hour later to search. Someone found one piece and the security guard held it for me on top of their xray machine. Great! I started searching for the other piece. Then I asked the traffic counter and someone in there found another side. Everyone was very helpful during my search and let me look all over their xray machine and helped search. When I walked out the front, the security also asked if I found them and were happy for me. I think some people have had unpleasant experiences but mine was pretty good as long as you know what to expect and the folks I met all seemed happy and helpful. Still hope I don't have to head back here for anything else. One point for improvement: All the more troublesome cases involving the attorneys and police officers were given priority (with plaintiff not present) Maybe that's to help the police officers get back to work earlier. But the fastest cases to resolve were held to the end where a lot of cases were dismissed in lots since the police officers did not show up. if those could be dealt with first, 20 people could leave really early with about 3 minutes of proceedings rather than sitting there for 1.5 hours. Just sort of counterintuitive that the most time consuming cases were heard first. read more

I went to court at 8:30 this morning to file a restraining order against someone. I was told to go up to the 4th floor and have the judge sign off on the paperwork. The fat clerk lady hands the paperwork to the judge, the judge goes into the chamber about 4 times, and then she says I have to go to Pomona Court. I am a disabled vet, and I feel I should've been treated with more respect then what that fat clerk gave me! Its not my fault that the clerk downstairs assigned me to the Pomona courthouse but told me to go upstairs on the 4th floor and have the judge which was a lady sign off the paperwork. read more

Not a bad place for jury duty. I can't compare it to any other courthouse but it's not that bad at this one. Staff is friendly, both in the jury assembly room and in the courtroom and security and, actually, everyone that works there that I came into contact with. We got great tips and suggestions on places to eat around the area. FYI - the signs all say that there is a cafeteria on the 3rd floor, even the website says it, but it doesn't exist. Good thing there are more than enough restaurants in the area to choose from. Oh, and they give at least an hour and a half for lunch! Not a bad gig at all. Don't try to get out of jury duty. It's definitely a good experience (even if you don't think so during the trial). This was my first trial and I learned a lot, not just about the court system, but about people. I met a few jurors that I will be staying in touch with. I really liked the judge we had - he was for the people! He was concerned about the length of time that the lawyers were taking and really watched out for the jurors. He tried his best to get us in and out of there. It seemed right. His staff were really polite and pleasant. Parking for the courthouse is off Ramona and is quite convenient. Just remember which floor and which entrance you come out of. The courthouse is rather old so you'll have give yourself extra time if you're trying to get to a floor other than the first. If you're a juror, parking is free. FYI - if you're going to use the ladies room on the second floor, use the middle stall. It's the only stall with a lock. read more

One of the best experiences I have ever had in traffic court. Judge Gus Gomez in division M is one of the most reasonable and caring judges I have ever come across. I had a failure to appear from a few months ago, which increased my bail from $160 to $630 as well as a new citation (another $160) for the same type of infraction. Consequently, I went in today to settle the issue and sat through the entire morning session and was pleasantly surprised to see a judge that actually cared about the defendants and tried to help them in any way possible. In my case, he reduced the bail for the 1st citation to $210 and offered to dismiss the 2nd citation if I paid today. In closing, consider yourself lucky if you have to appear in front of this judge as he is very compassionate and listens to each and every defendant and tries to genuinely help people. read more

This place sucks my ass. The people are rude - I get it. You hate your job and you're miserable and single and eat Hungry Man dinners every night and deal with assholes on the regular. But damn - at least keep it short and just expedite the process so I can get in and out of there. We don't even have to say hello or attempt conversation - that's fine with me! The staff in the volunteer dept are the worst, on the phone for personal calls while we waited, no wonder I couldnt get through when I called. I had to come back twice because of a problem that had nothing to do with me. No one wants to come here, like the dentist, but you don't get crappy service like this anywhere else, these people are anything but professional. Wow is all I can say. Like another reviewer wrote, the only pleasant thing about this courthouse was actually the security people so hence the 2 stars is for them. When you come in, they treat you nice and courteous and the compliments end just right there. As soon as I walked to the line waiting to obtain a certified document, I heard the worker at the filing/copies window talking really loud and was very impatient with the person she was "helping". I thought well my case is very simple, all I'm doing is ordering a certified copy of my name change so I shouldn't have any issues. Well, I was dead wrong. The moment it was my turn, I already got yelled at and attacked for just trying to be helped. I was there on time for my appt but the grumpy old lady kept asking me what I want. I kept telling her I am here to obtain a certified copy for my name change. I asked her if they stamp with an official seal or sign in color ink for it to be considered certified as a social security rep had advised me to make sure I get the official seal (because I could easily print out the same thing with the copy of the seal from online). She kept huffing and puffing and asked if I wanted the copy or not. I let her know of course, yes, but I wanted to make sure, per the social security rep's warning, that I don't get just a copy because they need originals or certified copy. Looking at the blurry copy she provided, it appeared exactly like a photo copy with no authentic seal where you can actually verify that it is official. There's no grooves in the paper from the seal/stamp. I asked her if they have a seal in any other color because the social security office told me they might reject the form if it looks like a copy so other courts have used different colors to designate authenticity. To make the long story short, I paid $40 for a 1-page blurry photo-copy with a tiny, messy blue signature (blue color ink per my request) after the grumpy lady yelled at me for having questions on the authenticity of certification because I did not know specifically what to expect. I've never before encountered such a grumpy worker who only wants to put people down instead of helping and incriminate you if you are trying to ask some sincere questions. She said she's worked there for some decades and basically expected me to know the answers to my questions and know the system inside out like she does even though this is the first time I have ever stepped inside a court and have never requested a certified copy before. Kudos to her for knowing the system better than me and shame on me for being an inexperienced person of the court system just trying to ask questions to understand the system. What an awful human being to think the way she condescends/belittles people and put them down is the standard of work ethics. She definitely has horribly misrepresented the Pasadena Court House. That person said her name is Jean but she signs off as G Boon. If I could, I would give her 0 stars for customer service, 0 stars for helpfulness, 0 stars for patience. read more

I know it sucks to go to any court, but It could be worse. You could be at a courthouse in downtown LA that you have to park 8 blocks away from only to wait 10 minutes to go through security then scurry into an elevator with 30 other people in it. If you have a traffic case in Pasadena, Judge Gus Gomez in Dept. M is very fair and reasonable. He is calm and it's clear that he carefully considers all the evidence and testimony presented. He'll shut you down like Judge Judy if you're out of line but he'll also be reasonable with granting time extensions and fee reductions when warranted. If you're fighting a traffic ticket it would be wise to do your homework and have some solid arguments for your defense before you go in. I'd say 90% of the traffic defendants I saw were found guilty. Not because the judge was overly harsh or the police provided extremely compelling testimony but because the defendants either 1) didn't present any logical defense other than saying "I'm not guilty" 2) they didn't have consistent testimony, story changed, admitted guilt in some form during questioning or 3) they were just idiots! read more

Horrible experience with my case. I was fighting wrongful eviction and I literally had plenty of evidence supporting my facts and still lost to my scum bag landlord all because of the judge. The judge didn't even bother looking over my paperwork and basically ignored me and let the plaintiff do all the talking. This is total B.S. I understand now why my scum bag landlord filled here with other courts closer than this crap place. read more

It's not a very ideal place to visit. What with the beautiful city hall down the street (with its beaux-arts architecture and pleasant central courtyard) and the awesome public library across the way, this building is a Mrs. Howell seated between a Ginger and Maryann. As of 4/28/10, only two of the three elevators are working. Stairs are NOT accessible absent an emergency. So every trip inside/outside the building necessitates long waits at the metal detector (there's only one), followed by another terrible wait at the elevator line. For those wishing to use wi-fi in the 5th floor jury waiting room, it's a bit slow because of all the Internet users, and there are no electrical outlets. The 3rd floor cafeteria is closed. However, there are lots of good eats outside the courthouse within an easy walking distance, and you can grab a coffee across the street at the public library. The contemporary art museum and Asian art museum are also within walking distance. Thus, it's not completely bad. read more

Beautiful architecture & plenty of parking near Paseo Colorado mall, this place so want me to move back to Pasadena and live here again. Compare to LA court on hill, this court is never as busy and crowded as LA court, and staffs are way more friendly except they are not as professional as government employees in LA court. Be sure not to violate parking laws around this area. There are literally cops and parking patrol all over like hyena about to snatch up mini innocent mouse. Pricing for parking is reasonable, and you can park your call at the mall and walk to the court- It is actually very pleasant walk. I recommend this place to visit at least once if you are around! read more

Needs a bit of work. Smaller than DTLA's but does both criminal and civil cases. I was called here for jury duty, which is always an adventure. It involved a lot of waiting and fun fact: there's cockroaches all over and none of the water fountains work! Also bring cash because they won't take your card in the cafeteria unless you buy over $10 worth of items. It's across the street from the Library (beautiful) and walking distance to a ton of eateries! So, you're in a great area for your lunch break / after jury duty. But the building itself is old and dated. read more

Building outside is Beautiful.... HOWEVER: very old and smell inside, stuff not professional and very uneducated. I went there for fight for a ticket, however the stuff was yelling and pushing the public. If not Alhambra court move all my file there, i will not come here. POS read more

I came here to resolve a traffic situation. Having visited the traffic window at this particular courthouse weeks prior, the young lady at the window had approved my proof of insurance, which was an actual letter with specific dates. She was very good about giving me specific instructions on how to handle the case, and she did this quite patiently. She explained that I just needed to complete a few more steps, and I could either resolve the situation through mail or come back in person. When I brought the same proof today, another girl with long dark brown hair (I will not name her) would not accept my letter. She seemed confused, took it to her colleague, and then came back to me and said she needed an insurance card. To summarize, another employee of the same office had approved my documentation, and coming in today, the girl with the long brown hair wouldn't. This shows inconsistency on the part of courthouse employees and exposes a certain ignorance on the matter. When I finally did produce the card, having searched for it in my wallet, the girl with long brown hair made a snarky remark. When I asked her, "Excuse me," she didn't respond. I explained that the letter had been approved by someone else there not too long ago. Again, she did not respond. She was cold and not once did she look at me the rest of the time; neither did she acknowledge my thanks at the end of the transaction. Hence, I'm compelled to address the lack of professionalism and baseline civility on the part of these employees who in fact, chat away with gossip at the ticket windows in the presence of the public and don't seem to give a care. I acknowledge that this public organization, a courthouse no less, doesn't exactly prioritize customer service, yet all people ought to be treated with civility and respect. On top of that, it pays to be presentable and professional. My point in writing this is to simply emphasize that. read more

Only person willing to help Carolina room 300 family law, she's a true asset to this courthouse! She went out of her way to help with paper work she's an amazing person with a huge heart! God bless her. She should run the court. Meanwhile from the court clerk to supervisors they feel like they're doing you a service by talking to you who are these ignorant unethical robots??? Horrible experience I am in the legal field and attended many courthouses in California and by far Pasadena has been the worst in recent.. They could not even find an attorney to fill in for a client they were not even busy and we sat there all day waiting for a review... Pasadena come on get it together... read more
