This was a very informative, well attended presentation on the City's historic civic center plan, JM's bio and body of work, architecture and construction of the YWCA as well as the past and present function of the structure and possibilities for reuse. The second part of this program may be scheduled in the Fall of 2012. Julia Morgan, California's first licensed woman architect, is known for her work at Hearst Castle, in addition to her work in SF, Oakland, No. California and for the design and construction of YWCA buildings throughout California, Utah, Arizona, and Hawaii including 14 structures at the Asilomar Conference Grounds (originally YWCA) in Pacific Grove. Bernard Maybeck was her mentor.

Throughout this weekend, you can take both bus and/or walking tours of historic neighborhoods, but the highlight of the weekend is the Craftsman House Tour where you get to visit six distinctive period homes, Not only do you get to see the interiors of these beautiful homes, you'll also have trained docents inside who will give you historical facts and architectural info about the home itself. So if you have a love of the American Arts & Craftsman movement, than why not take advantage of being local to a part of the country where you can see beautiful examples of this distinct architectural and design style. I certainly did last year and with Annual Craftsman Weekend coming around again in October, you can too. I can recall your memory by telling you that we had 6 people in our group, and 3 of them walk out half way, making me feel terrible for having them pay that much for some terrible dad jokes and a sad excuse for "factual" stories. Now I do apologize and will remove this post if I am indeed mistaken. Here's the dishonest review site that was emailed to me after the tour, and below is my email confirmation with purchase ID removed. https://pro.peek.com/reviews/sample/5907ae6893d2da304f00005b/1 Email confirmation: Thank you for making a purchase with Santa Monica Tour Company on 2017-10-18. ORDER DETAILS: Purchase ID: xxxxxxxx Order Summary: Haunted Santa Monica Ghost Tours (6x Adults) Subtotal: $210.00 Taxes & Fees: $15.28 Discounts: $0.00 Total: $225.28 Thanks, Jeb --------------------------- This tour was run by Zack and Candace, two really friendly people. Zack is super energenic, threw dad jokes, and would be an awesome person for regular tours (not haunted tours), and Candace helped tell half the stories. Not sure how this averaged 5-stars. I would give it 0-stars if possible. Biggest disappointment and waste of money. Our group of 10 people all felt scammed. Wasn't what we expected at all. The places we went to were just too crowded to set the mood. Most of the "facts" that were described weren't delivered well to draw us into the stories. Good information on the buildings, but all the haunting stories didn't have any emotions behind it to create the atmosphere. That coupled with the noise and crowdedness of the entire tour just took everyone completely out of it. The whole tour was missing the Mystery aspect of a haunted tour. Delivery of the stories using "factual" statements such as "EMF" and "Séances" does not make it scary, mysterious, or convincing. Not even drugs or alcohol would make it close to what you would expect (Not to say there was any of that involved). TLDR; If your not doing this for your 5 year old kids, don't waste your money or time. Additionally, the tour sent me an email asking to rate my review from 1-5 stars. If you pick anything below 5-stars you get sent to a fake reviewing site that doesn't allow you to submit; Clicking 5-stars sends you to this Yelp page. That's just terrible. https://pro.peek.com/reviews/sample/5907ae6893d2da304f00005b/1

Each year, the Bungalow Heaven Neighborhood Association (BHNA) hosts a self-guided walking tour featuring 8 selected homes. The event took a pause last year due to the Eaton Fire, but this year our party attended the 35th Annual Bungalow Heaven Home Tour in April 2026. [Parking]: Street parking only (free), but our party had no issue finding available street parking in Bungalow Heaven near McDonald Park. [Admission]: Advance tickets = $25 per person (plus online fees), but tickets were available on the day of the event for $30 per person. Visitors checked in at McDonald Park (1000 Mountain Avenue) and the staff handed out a guidebook and wristband. Visitors were supposed to show wristbands to enter each home, but honestly not all volunteers were actively checking them. [Check-in tent & food / drink options]: The tent offered complimentary snacks, water, and lemonade. The staff was beyond generous with the snacks and visitors were encouraged to grab as many homemade cookies (over 35 different options!!!) as they wanted. Heck volunteers were even selling baking books with recipes for the same cookies. There was no complimentary coffee, but there was a coffee truck where visitors can purchase drinks. In addition, I noticed the Kogi food truck and few other food trucks too. [Experience]: The event started at 10 AM and our party stayed from 11:45 AM to 1:45 PM (2 hours) and toured 4 homes. Most of the homes our party visited were Craftsman-style bungalows. Between homes, visitors can also stop by various sponsored pop-up tents. Unfortunately, there were not many places to sit and visitors had to stand in line while waiting to enter each home. The lines were noticeably shorter after 2 PM, but keep in mind the guided tour only lasted until 4 PM so plan accordingly. Definitely expect to stay 4+ hours if visitors want to see all 8 homes + the home with a miniature railroad in the front yard. There were few porta-potties available for anyone who needed a restroom break. Each home had volunteer tour guides explaining the history of each home and some current homeowners were present and available to answer questions in their backyards. [Rules inside of each home]: No interior photos, no food or drinks, no smoking, and no high heels. [Conclusion]: This is a solid tour for anyone who is into historic houses. Some tips include wearing sunscreen, comfortable walking shoes, and breathable clothing. And yes I think those complimentary cookies were well worth at least half of the admission price alone.

If you live in an older home and/or you are a fan of historic homes, the Bungalow Heaven Home Tour in late April every year is an event not to be missed. Be ready to be amazed with the exterior as well as the interior of 6 to 7 featured homes in Pasadena. Most of the owners of these homes have meticulously restored their home's historic glory, and their commitment and dedication to their homes will definitely make you think twice about today's cookie cutter modern homes. Thank you so much to the Bungalow Heaven Home Tour committee for organizing such a wonderful event for the home showcase volunteers for letting strangers see their beautiful homes! Buy tickets online ahead of time to get a discount. A map of all featured homes will be given to you at Check In at MacDonald Park, and this park is the perfect check in area since it's pretty much in the middle of Bungalow Heaven. You set the pace and the route since the tour is completely self-guided. Bring a lot of water and snacks, and make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Yes, you can also drive yourself from home to home, but part of the charm is walking through the beautiful streets of Bungalow Heaven. Walk and enjoy the views of this historic neighborhood if you are able. Several food trucks are at McDonald Park for a lunch break, and there are also different opportunities to enjoy live music performances along the route. In the 2023 tour, the first one to take place after the pandemic, the tour also featured craftsmen who live in the area along the route, from quilt makers to painters to furniture makers.

After watching stuff on TV I decided to Google, not expecting to find a group in my backyard! (practically) So I jumped at the chance to go on a local History & Haunt Tour with them. We walked around the Mission museum (behind the Playhouse), HS, church, cemetery and ending at the doors of the Playhouse. As we were walking up to the doors of the Playhouse their was a strong floral scent. As the organizers thanked everyone for attending they walked towards the sidewalk. My daughter, Michelle (organizer), and myself stayed behind. I love old buildings so I asked my daughter to take a few pictures. As we walked away we heard the Playhouse doors open and slam shut!! Now these doors are huge. So you can imagine how loud that was. Before the tour ended Michelle had pulled on the doors and they were locked. We stood still for a second, turned around expecting/wishing someone to be standing there. The 3 of us ran up to the doors, we tried pulling on the doors again and they were locked and now the inside lights were on. My daughter and I stared at each other and then at Michelle. It was the weirdest feeling. We eventually caught up with everyone else and told them what they missed. We've also attended their Scary Movie Night at Savannah Cemetery. That was cool. We also made it to Paranormal Night II which I convinced my husband to attend. We're planning on going to the meet-up at Devils Gate Dam. I listened to Michelle's GB session on Facebook, can't wait! On the car ride home from their events I always tell my daughter...."we found our people"! So believers and non-believers attend one of their local events. You may never know what you'll see/hear/experience.

I came here with some friends for their first hosted event Sound Bath. A wellness day if you will. From start to finish everything was very organized and thoughtful. The staff hosting the event and the spiritual wellness guide and sound healer was wonderful. Everyone was nice and you felt welcomed. Not pretentious and just very positive and good vibes. We had a nice group and everyone was respectful and on time for the sound bath so it went off without issue. It was a relaxing experience and the grounds were very nice to hold this outdoor event. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, we found an area with shade, very nice. Very faint sounds of cars in the distance here and there which wasn't ideal but out of their control and once things settled in you really couldn't hear much external noise. After the relaxing sound bath we were offered tea and light pastry snacks. I opted for a water and began exploring the grounds instead of partaking in the refreshments. The grounds are lush and lovely, very zen. Loved the beautiful trees and walkways with small fountains and running water. It was green and pretty all around from the recent rains. Definitely a great location for events and to learn a little SB history. I will definitely do my research and come back again soon.
