We really enjoyed getting the opportunity to check out Pascals Coffee House yesterday on the University of Florida's campus. What struck us was the kindness of the staff and the very serene and relaxed atmosphere of people just sipping coffee, talking, getting some work done in the nice quiet library-like area. We wish there was a little bit more on the menu but in general the drinks were phenomenal. Everyone was super nice and it was very relaxed so we'll probably be back. read more

Visited Pascal's for this first the other morning and loved it! Pascal's is a favorite among students and I've only heard great things about it. I got there right when they opened, at 8am, because I wanted to get some pastries while they were freshest. When I got there, people were already around the door waiting for them to unlock it and open for the morning! It is located right behind Wawa and the building itself looks like a house. The inside is super cozy with ample amounts of study spots. They have 2 stories with a mezzanine looking over the main floor. There really isn't another coffee shop like it near campus. I really cannot emphasize how homey the vibe is, you have to go and check it out for yourself. The interior is also kept very clean, which is always nice. The service is super friendly and personable as well. The staff seemed to know the regulars there and were easy to talk to. Service is just on point! Pascal's prides themselves in making their own syrups and hand crafted beverages. They also frequently have specials or special holiday menu drinks. But I actually didn't try any coffee this visit, I came for some pastries! Pascal's serves fresh pastries from Uppercrust (local bakery). I have only heard rave things about Uppercrust, but had never gotten the opportunity to try them. The pastries are given to Pascal's each morning from Uppercrust to sell , so they are very fresh. They had an array of croissants, some scones, and cookies. While it was hard to choose, as they all looked DIVINE, I opted for a vanilla bean scone and a raspberry croissant (per the baristas recommendation). I got them to go because I had a meeting, but next time I will for sure enjoy them there! The raspberry croissant was heavenly, flaky, and buttery, with the perfect amount of fresh raspberry filling inside. The raspberry croissant was a great recommendation and was just amazing. The scone was huge, super buttery (in the best way), dense, and moist. One of the best scones I've had by far! Not too sweet and a good vanilla taste. Would highly recommend both. Overall, Pascal's is a wonderful little coffee shop. Vibes are just the best and the atmosphere is unbeatable. Especially on some of these cold mornings--perfect place to be! The service is the friendliest and very welcoming. They clearly take pride in what they do and look forward to serving the community. While I didn't get around to trying the coffee, which I will certainly will my next visit, the fresh pastries from Uppercrust were superb. Definitely will be planning a visit to Uppercrust soon too. I'll admit--I was a little hesitant to try this coffeehouse at first because it's Christian-based, and I usually stick to more neutral, non-faith-focused spots. But wow... I'm so glad I gave it a chance, because this place is divine in all the right ways. The employees were incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment we walked in. The coffee was excellent--we tried a couple of drip coffees and a raspberry-sauce coffee, and everything was perfectly balanced and genuinely delicious. "All in good taste," you might say. The atmosphere is another big win. The décor is warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully put together. Whether you choose to sit inside or outside, the space feels relaxed and inviting. All in all, this coffeehouse really impressed me. Highly recommend giving it a try, even if you're unsure what to expect--just like I was. You might end up loving it, too. Super yummy espresso!! First time trying Cuban espresso and I really like it:) I have a sweet tooth so I added honey for the sweetener and it was perfect. Even with whole milk, the espresso taste is strong. The coffee shop space is so inviting & the tables are big enough to spread out your laptop/notebooks etc. & the accessible outlets make it the perfect place to complete work. Friendly staff! Quite honestly the Cuban Latté is the best drink I've ever consumed in my life. To be fair, this was my first Cuban Latté I've ever had - if you have experience with this drink I'm not sure how this place ranks up. It was perfect sweet and smooth and was absolutely delicious!! I only stopped by this place to go for a morning coffee - but from what I can tell there are many tables and great study spots! Super quiet so perfect for getting in the zone for work. Pascal's is a fantastic place for coffee in Gainesville! Located a block north of University Avenue, you feel like you finally get some peace and quiet while drinking your coffee. The people that work here are all super friendly and make you feel welcome. The interior is nice, spacious, and has an airy feel. While they may not have as many coffee choices as other places, the ones that they do have, they do a really good job with. I got an iced coffee here and it was a very reasonable price. The coffee itself was nice and cold with just the right amount of ice without watering down the coffee. Yes, it's a coffee shop in the Christian Study Center but it operates like a usual coffee shop. You couldn't tell it was part of Christian campus group if it wasn't for the sign. Also, you feel kinda safe leaving your laptop while you use the restroom. This is an excellent coffee shop to get work down. It has free wifi and dozens of tables occupying 2 entire floors! There is a ton of natural light and delicate study music play lightly in the background. When I was there on a week day, most everyone was studying or working rather than talking. It has all your standard hot coffee and ice coffees. Huge Bonus tho: they actually offer Cuban Coffee too. I don't usually see Cuban coffee. Usually, traditional Cuban coffee doesn't have a plant based milk option so I normally wouldn't order it but this place does have oat milk! Yay! It was delicious. This coffee shop has a small private parking area. - maybe 10 or so spots so I was thankful to grab one to avoid paying street parking. Pascal's is the perfect study area! It's right off UF campus, so it's definitely possible to visit in between classes. The coffee menu is pretty simple. LOVE this coffee house! So glad we found it as I cannot say enough about how great this place this is. My friend and I were having a girls weekend and wanted to try some new places in town and thought this looked like the perfect spot for a morning coffee. The location is a little tricky since it's across from the University so parking can be tight although we were able to find parking when we got there without an issue. The house they are located in is adorable with plenty of space - an upstairs, downstairs, outside seating, and balcony. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The drinks are delicious! I got a honey latte and it was amazing! I have been on a quest to find a place that can make these correctly after I stumbled into a local coffee house in GA years ago that made a honey latte that was phenomenal - no one else seemed to replicate it until Pascals. The moment I walked in I felt like I was in a cozy cabin up in Big Bear, California. The color-coordinated couches, tables, and chairs are so inviting they made me want to grab a book and a mug and start reading. It's even got a nice classroom attached to it (part of their Christian Study Center) that's open for reservations throughout the week (except for Sundays). It's probably one of the best places near UF to meet for a study session or a book club meeting. Speak with Nora. I have and she's super friendly. And I appreciate so very much their selection of music. You can count on something other than the usual stuff on the charts (any given day you might chance upon some Sufjan Stevens, Wilco...) Whoever's making the playlist, thank you x 1,000,000. (BTW, if you play music I'd definitely ask about doing a live gig here.) Okay, what about the coffee? I think in this post-Starbucks age we're inclined to compare everything coffee-related to Starbucks (quality, speed, variety, etc). But I think that's a mistake. The real game-changers today are actually places like the Blue Bottle, where coffee doesn't mean "I'm in a hurry" or "pump me up with sugar" but "take your time and make me something good, and not burnt." Even the freshest brews at Starbucks carries a burnt taste. But not so at Pascal's. The work that happens behind the counter really reflects the atmosphere before it - relaxed but sincere. The time and attention they put into each cup of coffee demands that we rest a bit from the tasking demands of the M-F. It's actually quite therapeutic. I came in the morning and late afternoon today to check this place out. If I have the chance (and the money), I revisit places that I have tried for the first time to get a better impression of them. I asked the barista who was working this morning to explain cuban espressos to me; she gave me an adequate description with barely any enthusiasm. I asked the barista who was working this afternoon to recommend me a tea. To my surprise, she hasn't tried the teas herself. She seemed unsure of herself when describing how to use their tea-steeping method, so I'm assuming that she's new here. No worries, everyone gets nervous early on. The cuban espresso was very sweet. I've had cuban espressos before and this one came across as almost overwhelmingly sweet. The yerba mate tea (which the customer gets to steep themselves with the help of a borrowed timer) was pleasant. However, it is very easy for someone to spill tea if it's their first time using this steeping method. A better explanation of the process could easily prevent this. The ambiance of The Christian Study is excellent. The top floor is reminiscent of a university library and there are books and magazines to peruse while sipping your hot drink. Office supplies, wifi, and power outlets are all also available. I'll definitely be coming here to get some work done. With slightly better service, Pascal's can easily merit 4 stars. I'll be coming back here periodically in the next few weeks, and I'll write an update. read more

Environment: Pascal's has a nice environment and decorations. I came at the beginning of January and saw a lot of cute christmas decorations. There is an open floorpan and high ceilings which is nice, but means you can really hear the chatter and background noise of the kitchen if you sit inside, so if you are looking for a quiet environment be prepared for that. It's also almost always pretty crowded. At its worst it can be difficult to find a seat inside or outside. On top of this, not all of the seats/tables are close to outlets, so the crowd can make it hard to get to one of those seats. Coffee/Drinks/Food: They have lots of light bites, like pastries, but not really anything for a meal. If you are a coffee snob, this might be a little disappointing, I found the coffee better than anything I could get at home, but didn't quite live up to the hype. In addition, they don't give you the tea bag when you order tea (or at least when I did) so it can be hard to customize to exactly the strength you like it. I felt like it was a little weak to me, like I was just drinking warm water... Price Range: Prices aren't bad. Cheapest coffee is juts $2, espresso is around $3 and I think almost everything is under $5, but then again, there isn't anything all that fancy. Location: It's very convenient since it is so close to campus, but you are also taking a gamble on the line because of that. read more

GREAT COFFEE AND ENVIRONMENT. This is such a great coffeehouse. It has plenty of seating and such nice staff. I got the iced coffee and it was delicious. They even have almond milk!! I also got the everything bagel toasted with butter. It was pretty good, but the butter is served ice cold and it didn't spread very well so by the time the butter was soft enough and melted a bit the bagel wasn't hot anymore. The staff was nice. I came in a little after they opened and the seating was wide open. The music is classical-ish. Not too loud, but if you like to study in silent this is not the place for you. Prices are good for the quality. The chairs upstairs are a bit uncomfortable but for studying they keep you awake. Furniture is not aesthetic, but it gives me a old timey vibe. Pascals is the best Coffeehouse in Gainesville. And i've tried them all. Their coffees are made exceptionally well, particularly their Coffee Chillers (Frappaccino-esque) and Espresso-Based drinks. Their sugar-infused Cuban Lattes are decadent. Cappuccinos or brewed coffees have NEVER tasted bitter or burnt. The REASON you come to Pascals is the atmosphere. There is ample seating, including comfortable couches beside a fireplace, second-floor tables inside nooks of bookshelves, and first- and second-floor balcony patios. The music and ever-changing gallery of art adorning the walls add to the ambience. They also offer some great food options. Pastries taste fresh and are served toasted warm. Hummus and crackers offer a lighter snack. Their bagels beat out the overpriced Einstein fare on-campus. And you MUST order their Columbian Cheese Bread with a little drizzle of honey-- delicioso! The baristas are accommodating and considerate, always willing to take the time to explain how they make a drink or customize your order to your liking. It might take slightly longer to receive your coffee, but that's the point. You won't have the long lines out the doors like the library Starbucks or be rushing to give your order and grab your drink. So don't come to Pascals to feel rushed. Pascals is located conveniently across the street from campus. During midterms and finals you might have trouble finding a seat... or a parking space. Their wi-fi is sometimes spotty but mostly reliable. Pascals is a Gainesville treasure that I visit regularly. read more

Study spot requirements: Plentiful seating: There's seating upstairs, downstairs and a few tables outside. There also an outlet outside which is totally awesome. Locally owned: Yes. Relaxed atmosphere: Absolutely, 100% no. It was so damned noisy and busy, and the set-up of the place made all of that noise echo exponentially. I like studying in coffee shops because it is an active environment, but I felt like I was in the middle school hallway between bells. The relaxed atmosphere referenced by others makes me think it's not always like this, but everyone was so LOUD with their voices and talking about the most annoying nonsense that even if there were only 5 people in there I still would have been irritated. And the baristas were screaming when drinks were ready, adding evidence to the fact that this volume level is normal. I could hear everyone's drink order from outside. Wi-Fi: Free, with the password by the register. Quality coffee: Who knows? I guess? They were out of everything cold when I was there around 1pm. I mean... ugh. Yeah, shit happens, but... I'm new to Florida and it seems pretty glaringly obvious that you're going to need a crap ton of the cold stuff. Fail. And the things the barista offered as a replacement were sucky replacements. But mainly I'm just unimpressed with the bad planning in face of all of these amazing reviews about their quality. Snacks: They had a selection of pastries, but they were all mashed together and piled on top of each other on one cake platter. Weird. Price: Normal, maybe a tiny bit more. Extra notes: Their hours are absolutely stupid. They close early and aren't open on the weekends. And while the location has been debated, I was absolutely aware that this place was inside some kind of religious establishment.
