Located close to the train tracks, Paso A Nivel is a busy restaurant with generous portions. It has a sheltered open air dining area and plenty of seating. Catering to pilgrims and tourists alike, they do speak some English and service is friendly. Not a spot for a date night but more like a casual lunch/dinner spot.
Wanting to experience the local cuisine, I was curious to try the "pork kink." No, this isn't some sort of fetish dish, it turned out to be a pig joint I think. The waitress cautioned me against ordering this as it would be too much food, but being the adventurous eater I wanted to get my kink on.
The warnings proved to be true. It was massive, delicious and could have been shared. The accompanying mashed potatoes were flavorful, I think they were akin to Yukon gold potatoes. I couldn't finish it and of course couldn't take the leftovers to go as I would be walking about 12 miles in the heat to the next town. Would come back here in a pinch! read more
