As you might have guessed from the name, Spice House in Ormskirk is not the former home of Scary,…read moreSport, Ginger, Baby and Posh, but is in fact an Indian takeaway that also offers a home delivery service. The shop itself is quite small and somewhat cramped, but is pretty functional nonetheless as the fact they offer to deliver to your front door means you don't even have to set foot in the shop if you don't want to. Their menu offers the usual selection of spicy and flavoursome Indian dishes with varying levels of heat, meaning you can avoid anything too hot if you can't handle it. They also sell the usual sides you'd expect such as bhajis, poppadums and naan, all of which are available for a small fee. Their meals themselves aren't particularly cheap but do represent good value for money.

We were supposed to be going out for an indian meal but due to the snow we thought it would be best to stay home with a take-away and ordered from The Spice House as it was the only one we could find that had the delivery service. The food arrived in good time, hot and absolutely lovely. We really enjoyed our take-away, just as much as our usual meals out at our favourite local indian restaurant ... we will definitely be ordering from The Spice House again! Can recommend the balti made with lime pickle especially (can't remember the proper name, but it is on their specials section) and garlic naan.

Bay of Bengal, as the name suggests, specialises in Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine which you can…read moreenjoy in the comfort of their restaurant or, if you so wish, in the comfort of your own home as they offer a takeaway menu as well as a restaurant menu. The choice of dishes is pretty large and varied, with the menu including a useful selection of chef's recommended dishes which are especially tasty, spicy and full of flavour. The dishes themselves are nothing particularly different from a normal Indian restaurant menu, but it is all made to a fairly high quality and can be enjoyed in a restaurant which is nicely decorated and set out. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, helping you to choose a dish to suit your palate (as well as warning you off any very spicy dishes) and ensuring you to have a lovely dining experience whilst in their company. A very pleasant place to go if you fancy an Indian meal in a restaurant environment.

The interior is nothing exceptional, standard 'curry house' kind of theme but its clean and inviting. The staff received me warmly and were pleasant and polite throughout. I had chicken Madras with plain rice, Garlic Naan and Poppadoms. The food was beautiful, the Madrass was just how I like it, just hot enough and not enough to enduce dehydration! the Naan was fresh and flavourful and was a great accompanyment. With a couple of Cokes the bill came to around £15, which I think was pretty reasonable.

Shahbaaz Curry Cottage has been a favourite of mine for a good few years now - being a minute away…read morefrom my parents house, it also doubles up as our local Indian takeaway. The restaurant is, as the name suggests, in a small cottage that has quite recently been extended to cater for the demand for a good curry house in the area. There must be no more than 15 tables in the entire place, which makes it nice and cosy - which I like. I have been here countless times, and each time I cannot fault the service. The waiters are friendly, and the same guys have worked there for years, so if you're local and go there frequently they remember your name - which is always nice. The food is authentic Indian food, with a varied choice of curries on the menu. One of their starters - Prawn on Puree - is my favourite and I often order this as larger portion for my main meal, which they are always more than happy to do for me. The prices are very reasonable here, and if you like them on Facebook they'll often post print-off vouchers on their page for customer discounts and freebies. They also run deals on certain nights, where you can get 3 courses and a beer for £15. Last week when I visited, the service was abnormally slow.. And something I haven't experienced before. Granted it was a busy Friday night but maybe they were a waiter down or something. The service is usually faultless - this must have been an off night but I wouldn't like to mark them down for it. I'll continue to go here, either with family or with friends - and if you're in the area it's definitely the best place for Indian food for a good few miles.
