Starting with the ambience - it's a very modest atmosphere, almost homelike and you feel comfortable at once. There are several previous award plaques and football tees on the wall reminding of the old glory days. The menu is hand written and only displayed at the entrance of the house, so once you get in you are the mercy of your server to tell you about the options available. The starters have 2 options (eggplant rolls or potato with shrimps) and the main course has several varieties of pastas (around 5-6), there is fruit platter and then filter coffee with a mini canolli. The star of the show is definitely the food, its light, fresh and well prepared - nothing fancy but at the same time a lot of the reviews have hyped it to be the "best" or "awesome" - I am no expert on Italian food, much less Sicilian food but there are definitely much better options in São Paulo. However for the region, this place is great bang for buck ! Coming to the service portion - it's cordial but a bit slow and at the same time you really have to pay attention to options presented if you are not a regular or did not read the menu at the gate (yours truly !) - the food does not take long to come but at the same time, you can feel it's fresh. The portions served are good and you don't feel over stuffed or underfed. I'm not really sure if I will return to Taormina, its location is a great advantage for me so that might tempt me - however I would recommend it atleast once - for the charm and the fresh pasta. P.S. On a Friday, its R$ 49.00 per person for starter+main course+fruit platter+coffee & canal, they don't charge service tax but you land up leaving a tip.

Ugh...Where do I even begin?…read more.. To preface this review, we had arrived in Sao Paulo at the hotel across the street at night. It was raining, we were hungry, and we were desperate for some good food. We looked at this place but the prices were quite steep so we checked out all the place around the area, all of which were closed. It was only 23:00!!! We didn't know businesses closde that early in the city. Anyways...we came back to this joint to sit down and eat. We got the menu and they put down some stale bread with some roasted veggies and sun-dried tomato dip. Of course, we ate it...being hungry and all. We ordered the chicken parmigiana and some basic meat sauce pasta. The waiter brought out the food...and they were MASSIVE. This makes sense that the food was pricey. This place is FAMILY style...which the waiter failed to tell us. We order two big plates that could have fed 4. The food wasn't even good! It was super simple (tomato sauce out of a can and topped with cheese) and didn't taste anything like authentic Italian. Was so sad...so much food gone to waste. Then we get the bill and they charged us for the for the bread/veggies starter. This was before we knew about how shady restaurants in Sao Paulo just place starters on your table without asking and expect you to pay if you eat it. Warning: DENY starters if you don't want them in Sao Paulo or you will pay for them...culture shock indeed. To start, we had the fresh oysters which totally trumped my previous favorites at O Catarina in Perdizes. Peixaria's are a must. We also had the muqueca and grilled fish (they have a rotation of them, served with banana farofa and pinto bean salad), and both were delicious. I'd really like to see São Paulo's state government clean up its act and do more for the city, because there's no reason it shouldn't be a top tourist destination.
