Small community environment with exceptional students where everyone knows your name. The students…read moredon't just care about learning (which they do), but they are also are open minded, conscioentious, and kind. There isn't a big emphasis on the things that make most other high schools toxic environments (e.g. "popular kids", clicks, and the generalized acceptance of bullying/dehumanizing behavior.) They offer a wide array of AP classes that one can take starting freshman year, and tons of other accessible opportunities in sports and engineering design in general (their robotics club is free, open to all, and EPIC.) There is some trouble in the math department, which is unfortunate, but hopefully this will be changing soon.

My son skipped 8th grade before attending THS it left him struggling in 9th grade math last year…read more After school meetings we came up with plans. This year they didn't use the plan & talked him into a school change to Phoenix High. They knew I was against it so they didn't involve me. I did my research, they have been lying. It's a continuation school. Great Schools says 98% of THS students go to college but remember.. They kick out kids they have to spend time teaching. It's discrimination They only care about ranks & keeping numbers up. Kids who bring numbers down get moved to continuation school. I hung up on her when she lied saying it's not a continuation school. She retaliated by sending the police to my house that night. She reported my son said he felt unsafe at home but he wasn't at school that day! My son is 5" taller than me & works out daily. I'm a 50 year old permanently disabled single mom. I go to school meetings with a cane. They are well aware of my physical limitations. This is a disgusting display of retaliation for being confronted and caught in lies fueled by discrimination

It is a good campus that is plain and is small enough to where you will get the education you need and not have to run around all about the city to get from one place to the next. The different building/halls are close enough to each other to what you're not walking a very long distance.

The Weills live in Sonoma and I joke that after his years at Travelers, Citicorp and Shearson he's been trying to buy back his soul. [My dad worked for him in one of their many satellite offices, my sister and I met Sandy Weill in an elevator, funny story] The Weills' money is quietly invested here in the beautiful Green Music Center at Sonoma State College in a natural landscape filled with field flowers and lush grasses. The campus itself is spread out with plentiful student housing rumored to be pretty posh and spacious. Sonoma State seems to have a focus on liberal arts with a concentration in the arts and STEM. The outdoor pool adjacent to the gym is pretty good but the locker rooms are dated, cramped and dirty and in need of an overhaul. You'll see evidence of Peanuts' Charles Schulz at Sonoma State. He was a Sonoma resident as well. Nice campus, small, quiet, tucked away in wine country.

The active pto helps pay for the garden, drama, and music enrichment programs. The teachers and staff are able to really meet each child that their level so that no one gets left behind and get the children excited about learning. So grateful that we found this amazing school!

The staff was supportive through the years when my son was behind in reading. Because of their help he is now up to grade level and excels in math. My daughter is also excelling. Those formative years at Dunham have really created a love of learning in our kids. The teachers, administration, and parents collaborate effectively to run the school in such a way that funds are well allocated to additional curriculum that are fun and educational for the kids. The garden is by far a wonderful addition to the school and really created a community connection between the families and the local agriculture of Sonoma County. Things like apple pressing, seasonal "plant start" sales, and the pumpkin patch where each child gets a pumpkin...these are things that kids remember for the rest of their lives. The end of year carnival is always a blast! It's a close knit community. As a small school, be prepared to face the challenges of kids getting sick of one another. There is only one class per grade so kids stay together. That results in bickering and splitting off eventually with their people. They are like siblings by the time they leave the school. Some kids get along better than others. But the variation of personality types and the inclusion of all demographics really gives these kids a sense of how to treat many types of people in and out of school. in my opinion, this small country school is one of the best in Sonoma County. It's a secret gem.
