Ryan Horse We came by for a trail ride and I have mixed reviews. I told them I know how to ride and they gave me a horse named Ryan, who was really sluggish and required tons of leg work to keep up with the group. It was absolutely exhausting and super frustrating. We came by here to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary and I did not enjoy it. My husband and was given a different horse named Ranger, and he didn't have to do anything to keep his horse moving. He had a much better experience than me. Another con is they don't let you interact with the horses before the ride or after the ride. I would have liked to be able to pet the horses or pet them and get some close ups with the horses. When you are on the trail ride they take your photo at two spots and this is included with admission cost. However we paid full price and I heard other people say how much they paid and they had used a groupon and paid half as much as us. After the ride, they offered us a promo to come back but I did not take the flyer because I did not want to go back. I feel bad writing this review because I don't want anything bad to happen to any of the horses if their business does badly but I did not have a good time. I don't recommend riding the horse named Ryan. The company also said to not to bring your phones but everyone else brought their phones. I was disappointed I didn't have mine. read more

Such a great time, would definitely recommend! A decent drive out from Markham is this horse riding ranch with several horses and huge, expansive, beautiful property that includes a forest! We came here in September on a warm and comfortable evening. It was pretty empty when we arrive and we signed in a little house at the front, then we were led by a staff member to the horses after a short introduction video and in-person intro to help us put on our helmets and stow our stuff safely away (like keys and phones). We then boarded our horses and were lucky that there were only 2 of us so we basically got a private horseback riding excursion! The staff member who guided was quite experienced and knew how to manage and control the horses well. We walked around the forest a lot, traversing up and down hills, doing a bit of trotting and riding on the horse which was quite an experience! It was enjoyable and relaxing to ride these horses! I think my horse and I got along pretty well, since the horses are pretty well trained and walk these paths a lot you don't really need to guide them too much; and they also follow the other horses pretty well. Time of the day matters too! We came near the end of the day so the horses were getting tired, sluggish and less inclined to walk around (they just wanted to eat and rest!). I'd definitely recommend long pants and bug spray for this activity; and to dress in comfortable clothing. Overall, the experience was fantastic and I'd definitely come back! read more

I'm not sure why they're aren't more reviews because this place is fantastic. We have rode at many stables and these horse are by far the best mannered I've ever met. It was youngest first time and Johnny took her nice and easy. Cherokee was very easy to manage. You can tell these are well loved horses. The guide was patient and a pleasure. I had my 9 year old niece and 7 year old nephew for a day and thought it would be awesome to go horseback riding. I researched all the places on yelp and on the net and Pathways returned my email right away. Natalie and Mark were awesome for the word go. They knew which horses would be best for each of us and were very thorough with safety. We were not allowed our phones on the ride so they took photos and videos for us and sent them to me immediately after! Very friendly and interactive with all three of us. We went there on Saturday. The horses there are well-trained and clean. The owner will choose the right horse for different person depends on their weight height or previous experiences. The trail is very different and better than the other trail I went before, it's actually inside the beautiful and quiet forest. Very peaceful but fun. Definitely a great horse riding experiences. Honestly, this place is quite expensive for an hour-long horseback ride on a trail, but it was worth it. In no particular order, I chose this place because (1) their excellent customer service twice on the phone, (2) their rural and scenic location really adds to the horseback riding experience, and (3) their excellently-built website conveyed to me that they knew first impressions were extremely important (because I imagine most people here have never thought to ride a horse), paid close attention to details and genuinely cared about the well-being of their business. The basis of my decision was confirmed in person The trail ride is mostly in a shaded forest where if you're lucky, you'll actually spot a deer. The scenery before and after the forest was really nice too. They will instruct you on how to ride a horse and apparently, it's very easy. The customer service from my instructor was pretty good too - friendly and caring. I was paired up with a horse named Sugar who was very very good to me - she was always attentive and listened to me when I instructed her to do certain things. She ate leaves every so often but I enjoyed watching her eat so I didn't mind. It was mostly walking pace with a few times to trot here and there I would come back again and recommend this place to anyone simply because most working people in the Toronto area probably don't ride horses very often so enjoying your time on the off chance that you do ride is very important. It was my second time riding and both times I have always referred and brought friends since I was referred to ride here by one of their staff members. The service and treatment we received by the owner was unacceptable. It was my friend's first time riding there and he had a few times when the horse was getting close to the other horse and he attempted to pull back to slow down. I understand the trainer (owner) was just trying to direct but his tone and attitude towards my friend was unreasonable and downright rude. I even expressed to him after that he didn't have to speak so harshly and that it was making us stressed and bringing down the excitement of the ride. He then went ahead and started yelling at me saying that I was also not listening and I was pulling back to slow my horse down- I was doing this because he was talking to me and I didn't want to walk ahead of him out of consideration! All in all, that experience made me sick to my stomach because there is a right way to give direction without being mean, we are humans with feelings too. I expressed my experience to Natalie and instead of simply apologizing for the anxiety and panic we experienced, their response was simply to defend themselves. I won't be surprised if their response to this review as well will list all the things we did wrong and why we deserved to be spoken in such a way- which is never the case no matter who you are! Respect and Kindness is and should always be the goal when running a business or just being human. I will not be returning to this location, which is unfortunate. read more

A great place for horseback riding, we had booked it last minute but they still offered us one hour pleasure ride. Michael was super nice and a great care during the trip. He said they are one of the only two farms that has private forest and closes to the city, he is also very patient. Definitely will recommend for others. read more

Pathways on Pleasure Valley is a great place to enjoy a peaceful and fun trail riding experience! The horses are all very well trained and with good temperaments, I never felt unsafe once. I had read a couple of earlier reviews on this page prior to our trail rides which mentioned the inconvenience of leaving a credit card number to hold a reservation or needing at least 24 hours notice for cancellation. I don't find these small regulations out of the ordinary, we have been to many trail riding businesses in Canada and outside of Canada where these are the norm. Neither of these impacted by trail riding experience in any way. I'd definitely recommend Pathways for a beginners and families looking for some fun outside of the bustling cities. The staff are well organized and knowledgeable, and always asked if we felt safe or if we were having fun on our ride. My family and I have been riding here for the past three years, this year under new management has been disappointing to say the least! Hourly rates have increased, cannot book without a credit card to hold your reservation and they won't guarantee you can a ride a specific horse . My daughters and I have ridden the same horses for three years and only now under new ownership has this ever been a problem! Will be looking for a new stable to ride at! read more
