I came here for a night time event to see fireflies and it did not disappoint! Very thankful for…read morethe educational experience provided by the Conservation Authority, and enjoyed learning about our woods and conservation efforts. Purple Woods is not too far from the city but still remote enough to find spots away from artificial light and enjoy nature in the darkness at night. The trail was very well kept and not too hilly. Good mix of tall trees as well as meadow. Other than lots and lots of fireflies, we also saw bats and heard an owl. There were ticks and mosquitoes, which is to be expected, so come prepared with bug spray. I would love to return for the maple syrup festival early next year, but even before then, would like to come by when the weather is nice.

Although I've lived in Oshawa my whole life this was my first time visiting here. When I reserved…read moretickets online for the maple syrup self-guided tour and saw I got a two hour time slot I assumed it would take at least an hour to walk the trail, but it only took us about 20 minutes. The trail was pretty nice to walk, although there are some pretty steep parts that can get tiring. The signs explaining how maple syrup is made were pretty interesting. There were a few spots along the way where you could take pictures with huts made out of trees and other things. At the end of the trail there's an area with a few small buildings to take pictures with and some giant wooden connect four games. Then once you've had your fill of entertainment you just walk back the way you came. In total I think we walked at most 1.2km. There is a gift shop, but without being able to go inside and browse we didn't end up buying anything. Overall, I'd say this is a decent place to bring kids to tire them out and keep them entertained for a while, but the trail is just too short for adult couples going on a hike.
