I met Patrice about 8 years ago when I was going through a very hard time in my life, as I guess is always the case when you seek counseling. I was dealing with my divorce, loss of my father, and loss of my job. I went to her office feeling helpless and hopeless and really just lost. She not only helped me get out of that slump, she has helped me find my way into gaining my strengths and becoming the person that I knew I was. Throughout the years, she has also helped me several times regarding my kids. From the time they were little to the stressful teenage stage right now. She is very good at giving you realistic goals to help you succeed. In my experience, there are 2 different kinds of therapists, ones that just listen, and ones that require action from you. I think the reason for my success and the reason I keep going back to her when issues come up is that she not only listens, but she gets results! There are times I have just needed to have a venting session and she's been great at listening and sympathizing. But when it's time to take action, she is very skillful at getting you to become clear in your thinking (and feelings) and guiding you in the right direction. I use the skills she has taught me frequently with myself, my kids, and even pass on her wisdom to my friends. The other thing I really appreciate about her is that she is not pushy about you coming in regularly if you don't really need it. I have never felt pressured by her to make an appointment as I have with other therapist because they just want to collect your money. Patrice is friendly, sharp, easy to warm up to and is in the counseling field for a reason. My husband and I went to Patrice because we were constantly arguing with one another. With Patrice's help we discovered we deeply wanted to be a healthy and loving couple. Through our couple sessions and with homework, she taught us valuable communication tools, and coached us on how to use them. With her coaching of us both, we learned we were capable of the daunting task of relearning how to talk to one another. Patrice Wolters is a truly incredible person. I met with her briefly for only six sessions, and within that time I was able to not only achieve lifestyle behaviors to increase my quality of life, but understand that I was strong enough and deserved to do so (which I did not know to be true before meeting with her). I was in a rocky stage of life and her sincere and genuine expertise helped me more than I could have imagined when walking into her office for the first session. She has such a talent for this field and I feel truly blessed to have met her. She helped me gain the tools I needed to not only feel better, but thrive in my life. I began to notice in our meetings how much I said "I can't" when describing something about myself I wanted to change, she would very simply say, "Well, you can." and move forward. I felt relaxed talking with her and could connect easily with her personality. While in the waiting room for our first appointment with Dr. Wolters, we come to find out that she had triple-booked me and my husband! There was another couple and a gentleman both waiting for Dr. Wolters. She looked very confused and asked us if we were certain our appointment was for this time and date. We said yes, you emailed us earlier this week to confirm and pulled up the email to show her our reply. She then had the nerve to blame us and say that we should have called her to confirm again (even though she sent a confirmation email). She offered a complimentary session, however, not at at the weekly timeslot we preferred and our first session was not for another two weeks. Two weeks later, my husband and I are in the waiting room and Dr. Wolters comes out looking very confused again. She had double-booked us! Again!! We were appalled and empathetic and decided to give the priority to the family of 3 in the waiting room and find another therapist. We walked out and Dr. Wolters didn't even offer an apology. I see Patrice, with my boyfriend, for couples therapy. She is helping us to create an increasingly loving, kind, and understanding relationship. We often times receive individual therapy in our couples session which has really helped each of us to understand ourselves and the other person so much better. She has often times gone above and beyond for us. Just the other night, after a particularly challenging session for me, she stayed for a little while afterwards to just sit and talk with me. It is so clear that she cares, and I find that so healing. It gives me courage to look at the tough stuff, and know that I can get through it. She has a gift for helping people that goes far beyond education. It is innate in her. She challenges me to be the best version of me that I can be. It can be very hard work, but I know I have her support. It is clear that this is more than a job to her, that she genuinely loves her work and is passionate about helping people to help themselves. This is my second yelp review for Dr. Wolters wonderful therapy. Dr. Wolters is an amazing therapist. I give her 10 stars, as she listens well, is reliable, and always seems to provide me with new tools and insights to move forward. Dr. Wolters is a very friendly, warm, and compassionate person. I highly recommend Dr. Wolters for both couples and individual counseling. So grateful to have found her! I have been working with Patrice for approx. 2 years now. My husband and I were recently married but dealing with a lot of changes (e.g. married life, family decisions, work, and a potential re-location). My husband and I went to her office very frustrated and angry due to our lack of understanding one another and communicating effectively. She really helped me learn to communicate and develop good listening skills. It has really helped me understand my husband's position and especially develop the skills to express myself successfully. I heard about Dr. Wolters from a co-worker who was very pleased with her. I felt that I needed a better understanding of my teenage daughter. I met with her first and gave her my goals. I was not sure how receptive my daughter would be to counseling. After one visit, my daughter felt a strong connection to Dr. Wolters. My daughter was able to open up and express herself to the doctor. I have since met with Dr. Wolters who then gave me some life skills to use to better understand and communicate with my daughter. I first met Dr. Wolters about two years ago. I live in Colorado but come to California often as my elderly parents live in Campbell and since they have had, over the last few years, a lot of health issues as well as increased difficulties caring for their home and yard, I have been making regular trips out to help with as many of their needs as possible. My parents grew up during the war and the depression. Because of that they have been frugal all their lives. This sounds good, especially in our society where few folks save, unfortunately however, this also translates to their never getting rid of anything. As their health and home continue to deteriorate, it's become clear that they need regular outside help, both for themselves and for the continual upkeep and care of their household. To help and encourage them with the tough transition of seeking outside help, with the eventual goal of moving into a retirement community where most of their needs will be cared for, I decided to seek professional help. After meeting Dr Wolters, explaining the situation, and taking my parents to see her, it became very clear that she has a wonderful, accepting way of listening to, and encouraging her patients. My parents weren't especially keen to visit with a psychologist but were willing to give it a try and see if having sessions to discuss their reluctance to have outside care givers come in and help them, with their medical needs, their house cleaning, organizing, sorting and getting rid of years of accumulated items. The irony is that my parents, especially my mom, is depressed about their situation and yet finds it very difficult to take the steps to help change. This is where Dr Wolters is invaluable in helping them realize that by "lightening" their load, they themselves will feel so much better about everything. Her goal to help with the all important communication between couples is helping my parents realize that by talking about their difficulties, it will be a great step forward to making the all important changes for their safer and healthier future. Recently my step-father, who is a quiet person, lost his older brother. It was difficult for him to express his grief and pain at the death of his only brother. Dr Wolters helped him open up about his feelings, and, at the same time, helped my mother to hold back so he was able to open up and express his feelings of deep loss. Knowing that Dr Wolters, who believes that people can change at any age, is helping my parents with many of the difficulties they are facing, has been an incredible help and relief to me. This is especially so since I can't be in California all the time. She has been very instrumental in their continuing to see her and with helping them to seek positive change in their communication, their activities and in their willingness to consider outside help as they continue to go forward. read more

I recently reached out to Dr. Wolters seeking her help to work with my step son who has bipolar disorder. I have personally dealt with my Mom's bipolar and schizophrenia since I was 16 until her passing 5 years ago. I'm so glad we found Dr. Wolters over a year ago! She is my teenage daughter's therapist and she has helped her so much with her depression and anxiety. It really is a big relief because we tried another therapist previously, but my daughter would tell me that she was very annoying and always wanted to skip appointments. Very different story with Dr. Wolters. Dr. Wolters is straightforward, but not rude or judgmental. She smiles a lot, shows genuine interest, and always offers great suggestions. She has advanced education in medication which not a lot of psychologists have and that benefited my daughter (Dr. Wolters does not prescribe medication, but is very very knowledgable). Dr. Wolters communicates on a regular basis with the psychiatrist and I love that she does this as my daughter receives better care because of it. Very much appreciated. They did not have a working relationship before my daughter became her patient...Dr. Wolters reached out to the psychiatrist with my authorization. I saw Dr. Wolters for over a year when I was having a very difficult time at work and she was very sympathetic and supportive. I saw her while taking a stress leave from my job and we met on Tuesdays. I finally went back to my job after finding an excellent union representative who helped me resolve issues with my work and had hoped to continue seeing Dr. Wolters. However, it became clear that because I could not see her at the time and day I had been seeing her, that she could not accommodate seeing me, in fact her hours became very restricted and emailed me essentially ending our sessions. I was very disappointed . I can understand her time being limited, however I feel very let down because I felt we had established a rapport and had hoped she would have shown some interest in following up and seeing how I was doing. I feel she has more to gain financially from seeing other patients and I also feel that while she was a good listener, there were things she simply was not interested in hearing about that needed to be addressed for my psychological and mental well being. :Perhaps because it was too much out of her depth. Dr.. Wolters is a very warm and caring person, however , as much as I still like her, I do feel in the end she let me down. read more
