The entrance is free, it's a short walk, and we love a good free activity! We took some nice photos, walked around, and learned about the history of the iron works. It was a nice little outing without having to spend anything. They also have events here sometimes. I've driven by while they've had concerts and even a movie night, which I thought was pretty cool. There's also a parking lot, so it's convenient to get to. Definitely a great place to check out if you're ever around Saugus and looking for something free and easy to do!

Curious minds brought us to this interesting and cool museum. There was a nice gentleman that was working at the time, he helped us decide if this was something we would have a great time exploring. He wasn't wrong. It was an interesting experience to say the least. After we paid for our tickets, he explained that we can stroll thru there at our own paces. There is no time limit here. You can go through there fast or take your time to read, and take in the history of all the different torture apparatuses they had inside the museum. We find it fascinating how they used to use these devices to torture people back in the days. Glad we aren't living in those times. Can't imagine the suffering they used to go through. It was a very interesting visit. Glad we at least experience it once to learn the history and the stories behind each device. After you are done, you can head back up and check out their gifts shop. It was a great and interesting experience. If you happened to visit Salem and is curious about torture devices, definitely stop by and experience it for yourself.

Somerville's Union Square claims the invention of Marshmallow Fluff but it's manufactured in Lynn. There are stairs and an elevator. A baby changing table is in the women's restroom. I got around fine with a 6 year old & 10 month old in a stroller. I grew up on the North Shore and my high school job was at a dry cleaners in Lynn. I loved this small museum and would recommend it. Today, the museum was free as part of a Lunar New Year Celebration. They had a bunch of free crafts and a storytime for the kids and my daughter loved it.

New buildings have been built since many of the murals were completed, so they are now sandwiched between buildings or in courtyards. The map of the murals is on Lafayette St. between Peabody and Ward Streets. Make sure to walk down the walkway past the Window Phone. There are several murals in the courtyard.

My daughter made our way to Salem today and this house was definitely on our to do list! My daughter and I attempted to go through the house earlier in the afternoon but unfortunately the credit card machine was down. After roaming for a couple hours we made our way back and we made our way in. The fact that this house has been standing in it's preserved form since 1672 is mesmerizing. To know the history about this house and what happened here over 350 years ago is mind blowing. How everything is perfectly staged, protected and preserved is simply amazing. Each room that you walked through has history notes for you to read. I appreciate that you have all the time to walk through, read the notes and absorb what you're looking at. Pieces of written documents, a bed that was slept on, a doll they found in the walls perfectly propped and protected. To know these pieces they have that are that old is a crazy thought! I looked out the glass window and envisioned what life would have looked like in Salem. The thought is crazy to me cause I'm sure Jonathan Corwin stood at the very spot and looked out of it too. Truly a crazy thought. I enjoyed my time at The Witch House. Looking at everything and thinking of what life was like back then. Thinking of the thought process of Jonathan Corwin when he sent those poor girls to the death at the Gallows during the witch trials. I think if you put yourself in that perspective going through this house, you'd really enjoy it! I have read a few poor reviews from people who didn't put themselves in Jonathan Corwins perspective.

It felt a little unsafe. I also didn't appreciate people taking pictures of the real documents-- I just felt a little disrespectful being there. I will mention I am sensitive to spirits but not a psychic. For me, the dining area was where I felt lots of energy and very off. I tried to buy a pin for the anniversary of Salem but it was very very pricey. I understand it's a tourist spot but I feel like profiting like crazy over this history is a little overboard.

Located in the historic Cushing House (built 1808), the museum is an extensive and interesting collection of artifacts from the long history of "Old Newbury" which encompasses the current towns of Newburyport, Newbury, or West Newbury. There are SO many pieces of interest here - and so many fascinating stories! The building itself has been in the Cushing family since the early-mid 1800s. Newburyport's first mayor, Caleb Cushing, even lived here. The early family members were integral in establishing trade around the world - definitely a lot of awesome history here. The historical society has done a phenomenal job of preserving many of the original features of the home such as the windows, carpeting, light fixtures, and even the faux-marble floors that were trendy in those eras. They've also gone to great lengths to obtain historical items belonging to the Cushing family and other prominent citizens from the area. For example, there's a lovely exhibit on a prominent Newburyport artist, Laura Coombs Hills, known for her intricate miniature paintings and pastels - as well as an extensive collection of silver pieces mined and made locally and books and books of historical records - and so much more! They also have some lovely 19th century gardens surrounding the house and also offer holiday themed events during December. One piece I really enjoyed was a large, ornate wooden sculpture that was meant to adorn a ship but never did - and became a local legend, so much so that HP Lovecraft even included it in his story "The Shadow over Innsmouth"! In order to tour the house, you must make a reservation online via their website (very easy to do) - it costs $10 and includes a docent to guide you and explain all the history. The tours run from end of May to October. In the winter months, tours are available as private tours for members only. PRO TIP: the tours are free to "Old Newbury" residents! Our guide, Shelley, was so knowledgeable and friendly!! We had a fantastic visit and learned so much more than we expected. Definitely made us love the area that much more and made our local adventurers more meaningful. Parking is all street parking but we were staying in Newburyport and just walked over (highly recommend- it's a truly lovely area)!!

It is a museum so you have to stop and read all the things otherwise you won't like it either.
