You can just feel the ghosts of pirates in this seaside tavern. With its nooks and crannies, it's…read morejust perfect for an illicit rendevouz and talks of treasure over a glass of brandy and the crackling fire. This has got to be one of the oldest pubs in South Wales, it's medieval and dates from 1380. This is one of those places that reminds you how small we used to be - I'm only 5ft 7 and I stoop through the worn wooden doors. I havn't eaten here, but there is also a well respected restaurant upstairs offering a good selection of seafood dishes. Dishes include: Brixham Crab Cake with baby leaves and lemon butter sauce (£5.25); Plaice Goujons with paprika and a sweet red pepper tartar sauce (£4.95); Roasted Fillet of Hake with a chorizo and roasted red pepper risotto ith tomato, garlic and orange sauce for £13.95 For the vegetarians on the day I visited there was: Tomato Fondue, Wild Mushroom and Aubergine Bake, finished with garlic crumb and poached egg (£4.95) and Rosemary and Truffle Arancini Risotto with a tomato, red onion and spring onion salsa ( £4.95). The restaurant opening times are Monday to Saturday from 7pm to 9.30pm. They also offer bar meals between 12 and 2 pm Mondays to Saturdays and evening meals Monday to Friday from 6 to 8 pm.

And a beautiful spot for a picture that will include a thatched roof and hanging baskets.

A fun place to enjoy a full British breakfast (and more I guess - but we both enjoyed the…read morebreakfasts). The place is is located a 15 minute walk from the center of town - unless it is cold, windy or rainy (never happens in Wales right?!) a very pleasant walk to enjoy the views and the fresh hour. However don't feel obliged to park in town and walk if you don't want to as there is ample parking by the pier based on our experience. The restaurant is clean and has both inside and outside seating with prompt and friendly service. A playerless piano plays music for you while you dine. Walk through a door after breakfast and there you are in an extensive amusement arcade - fun! And then there is the pier itself with its views and bracing fresh air. Another option is to climb some steps up to a cliffs above (behind the cafe) from which you can enjoy further views. Fun place to visit!!

Waiting, had time to look at the menu for the Pier Cafe (http://www.mumbles-pier.co.uk/pier/menu.pdf ) and gaze around the ornate Cafe interior - chandaliers, polished wood floors and tasteful wicker chairs. Wonderful views over Swansea Bay from the huge windows - light and airy feel inside. Cheerful little tables outside for warmer weather or hardy smokers. Plenty of choice on menu along with pretty Ice Cream & Soda Bar to lure the young ones (if they actually need any luring when ice cream is mentioned - but the Bar just makes sure). Highly recommended, especially in colder months if just paid 50p to brave the Pier extremeties (perhaps to visit the Ape Lady ) and need a warming liquid and nourishment reviver.
