Pattaya Thai is where I get my regular take away Thai meal. It has got to the stage that as soon as I order Wang says "How are you today Alison". It is a bit like a scene from a romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts. Anyway, I digress, I do like the restaurant with it's Kitsch plastic fruit and crustaceans adorning the walls. I have even been adventurous and eaten in. I wouldn't say it is anywhere near the best Thai food in the area but it is consistent and close by. I always order the Chicken Basil with fried rice even though it tastes nothing like any other Chicken Basil I have ever had anywhere else. I would recommend their house named dishes ie. Pattaya Fish. The food is a little hit and miss and does have a somewhat greasy taste but it isn't completely unpleasant. If you like daggy, cheap asian restaurants I would certainly give this a go. If you want something more upmarket or mainstream give it a wide berth. If you do go in say hello to Wang. He will be operating the oversized calculator on the front desk. When we first ventured in here we used to laugh (quietly to ourselves of course) because he would always check the addition on his calculator about three times. Then one day when I was waiting, I happened to check out the calculator and realised that it was so worn out you couldn't see the numbers and that is why he had to triple check. But all is good now as I went in for the first time in a while and noticed a shiny new calculator in pride of place and when it came to pay, Wang only had to do the addition once! read more

We had pretty high expectations as this place got a good review. However, it took a half hour to get our entrees. The tom yum soup was ok but not the best we've had. And was strangely flavoured. Probably because it had basil leaves instead of the proper lime and lemongrass leaves. The Pandan chicken was kind of sour - should have been sweet. The mains took another hour to come. The waiter apologised and offered us free drinks, which we refused but I asked him for tea. He said he'd bring us Chinese tea and ended up bringing some kind of medicinal flavoured herbal tea. Not really very appetizing. The Pattaya fish ended up being served in little fried pieces instead of as a whole fish that we expected. We should have gone for the steamed fish. The special crab-fried rice was pretty much just rice. my partner said he tasted some crab in one bite. The curry veg was mostly cabbage and very soupy. Not much veg in it. The toilet only has a dirty looking bar of soap on the sink for washing hands. We wouldn't touch it. Overall, not a great experience. read more

Rarely write reviews but after this experience I felt it necessary. Curries were extremely watery, meat fatty & minimal flavour. Rice overcooked & resembling mash potato. Egg noodle more like fettuccine. Called to give feedback & was yelled at by the owner. Never again. read more

We went back to this restaurant after giving it a miss for a couple of years. We had Pataya Squid, Beef Basil, Pud Thai and rice. It came to $42.30. The serves were large and the food was enjoyable. Beef Basil had a rich, sweet salty taste, my favorite, and the Squid was really good too. The Pad Thai was good too, but the flavors of the other dishes overpowered it. Overall, good meal, enjoyable, friendly atmosphere, In a somewhat dated restaurant, definitely value for money, and we will eat there again. read more

My first impressions of Pattaya Thai were 'huh?' and 'what is that strange smell?'. For real, it has that 'Central Markets' smell about it, you know, when the food is getting a little 'over-ripe' and squishy. There are plastic fruit and lobsters on the wall, a singing fish and overall the restaurant takes you back to the 70's...well how I think the 70's may have looked. They have painted the air-conditioning vents a bright blue though. Not too sure why but I'm thinking it's to highlight that they actually have air-conditioning (maybe not too many restaurants in the 70's had the good ol' AC). Anyway, on to the food and service. The man who served us was lovely. A big smile and overall a really friendly guy who updated us a number of times concerning how long our food would be (we didn't wait long for take-away at all!). So top marks for the service! Food wise though, not my thing. It's a strange combination of Chinese and Thai, and when you go to a restaurant with the name 'Thai' in the title I expect it to be more traditional. We ordered the Pandan Chicken, Phud Thai, Prawn Satay and Chicken Penang (red curry). Phud Thai and Prawn satay were very artificial tasting and definitely not how I like either one. The Pandan was tasty, and the Chicken Penang had a lovely spice to it with big chunks of chicken and loads of veggies. Whilst I won't be going back, if a fusion of Thai and Chinese food sounds like your kind of thing, then this will probably be a great little place to go for lovely service and reasonably priced dishes. For me though, it left me confused and with taste-buds that were screaming out for better Thai food no matter what the cost! read more

Well our Monthlies had their dinner last night in this small Thai restaurant. The service took me back to a Asia in the best way, food .... well it was great except for the daily special that wasn't available ( chilly crab ) all agreed it was a 9/10. Price was very reasonable as well, 4 alcoholic drinks 2 main meals and rice absolute bargain price of $55. Will be coming back here for sure read more

We used to eat there 2-3 times a month, Wang is fantastic and so was the food. It is now called "NEW" Pataya Thai, I think it has new management and the menu has been changed. The new menu is much more limited and almost all entrees seem to be fried. I am allergic to gluten and there isn't any GF entree anymore. No more cold rolls of any type and my favorite Beef chilli past is also gone. The prices have risen slightly but I think it it is still good value. Unfortunately I'll be looking for a new Thai restaurant that caters for people with Celiac disease. read more

Probably the worst Asian food I have ever had! The service was poor, & it took ages for the food to arrive although it was a not-so-busy Monday evening. The Pandan chicken was very dry & quite tasteless. The egg fried rice stank making me quite nauseous. The pud Thai was tolerable. Will definitely NOT be going back again. read more
