I suffered water and smoke damage to an offsite storage unit - due to fire elsewhere in the building. Jeff Goldman of PDR implied that PDR was an approved vendor for my insurance company. That turned out to be not true. On March 25, 2021 I executed an authorization (not a contract) for Paul Davis to negotiate with insurance, and to remove the remainder of property and inventory it for valuation purposes. The move was completed on March 30. Over the following three weeks there was back and forth communication with my Insurance Adjuster, and Shelli Thompson of Paul Davis Restoration, mostly about inventory and valuation. The adjuster said she needed: Book Titles, authors, publishers, editions, and ISBN#. All I got was more pictures, sometimes of a hardback book front with no visible printing whatsoever! When I protested the lack of inventory, Paul Davis sent my insurance a bill for over $6500, (which I never saw), and told me verbally though the adjuster that Paul Davis would not release our contents until they were paid in full. Shortly thereafter, Paul Davis sent a revised bill for $2,985.65 which did not cover cleaning, since Paul Davis now wanted out of the situation. Since I could not find a willing attorney in a timely manner, I relented and paid the ransom. When I got my property back, I discovered they had failed even to photograph several boxes of heavily damaged property. They charged $137 for a day of moving van when it took them less than one hour to move the contents. They charged $3-$4 each for boxes and only filled them half full. They removed phonograph records from sleeves, and unceremoniously tossed them into boxes en masse, possibly damaging the records further. Over $2,400 to take a bunch of useless pictures! IMHO, these people are con artists and scammers. Proceed at your own risk! read more

I have PDR come out to clean our carpet and upholstery, rugs and even the Grout in our kitchen floor every six months. They do an outstanding job and are easy to work with on my schedule and their technicians are personable and get the job done quickly read more

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. The mitigation crew was quick and professional but every experience after that was TERRIBLE. Multiple phone calls and texts were never returned. The company never even got back to us to give an estimate for the rest of the project. It's been 2.5 months and still haven't heard from them since they did the mitigation work. If you want a reliable restoration company keep looking and don't hire these guys. read more

HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED. We had flooding in our basement. I called several companies to respond and give estimates. Paul Davis Restoration initially appeared to be good company. The owner, Jeff Goldman quickly responded and we accepted their estimates. Their mitigation team led by Bill Smethers was excellent. Their mitigation team responded quickly did an impressive and professional job of removing carpets and drywall. I was very impressed with their work and I cannot say enough about their work up to that point. Unfortunately once the insurance paid for the mitigation costs, that is where all ended. The next step was to work with Mr. Goldman to arrange refurbishing and replacement. Although he initially gave us the impression he was a professional he totally dropped the ball. I will spare the details of months of unreturned phone calls and broken promises. The only way to communicate was by e-mail. Mr. Goldman's excuse was that he left the state work in Florida after the Hurricane. I would have been glad to postpone any of our restoration so they could help with volunteer relief efforts, however according to the office staff he was there on "business" not charity relief. After 3 months of trading e-mails full of failed deadlines and broken promises, he finally blamed everything on his project manager who was still in Lawrence and allegedly supposed to have worked on our restoration. Mr. Goldman promised the project manager would contact me in order to finish the project. It was the same song, different verse. The project manager did not return phone messages either. It took several weeks to arrange for him to come back for, yet another estimate. He supposedly did not trust Mr. Goldman's numbers. He apologized for Goldman's lack of customer service. He informed us their company valued us as customers and he would do everything he could to make it right. Days later he shows up and, get this, he REAKED OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES. Don't misunderstand me, I am not trying to just publicly embarrass him, which is why I am not using his name. He promised they would be back in contact in two days to get the project started. To this day, we have never heard anything else from him. That in itself tells me he was either blowing smoke or he was too intoxicated to remember what he had told me. I later made a complaint to their corporate offices. Paul Davis company executives gave more apologies for their franchisee's overall poor customer service. We were so puzzled because they initially did a great job and we told them so. We never exchanged any harsh words with any of them and did absolutely nothing to deserve this type of treatment. I was so unimpressed with this company. We had a fire on a rental house, their representatives showed up WHILE THE HOUSE WAS BURNING. Out of our desire to get the house back to normal ASAP, we decided to hire out this company. They did excavate out the house quickly- within a week or two, it was down to the studs. After that...nothing, for months. It was like pulling teeth to get anything done. We were lied to about dates, made false promises and left with huge uncertainties. Deadlines passed and 3 months after they'd originally estimated the job would be completed, they did. This was a simple, under 1000sqft house. Furthermore, their contractors left a LOT to be desired. I've done house renovations & know the processes...they put up walls, put on trim, THEN did a rough paint job. They tried to reuse the burned, damaged HVAC, saying "well just clean it up", despite the insurance company saying they were paying for a new system. With enough phone calls, we got a new HVAC, despite their shady contractors. Ultimately, 8 Months after the original fire, our house was done, and looks fine. I fully believe that if it had been our own personal house, not a rental, they would have been quicker. They put our job on the backburner to focus on other jobs, leaving our house untouched for weeks at a time. This left an angry customer and I certainly will not recommend them. read more

Paul Davis' prompt response to the water damage and mold growth in our beautiful custom built home located in Lawrence, KS. was fantastic. I am a board Certified Industrial Hygienists with over 35 years of experience. Over the past 16 years I have had direct involvement, planning, leading , monitoring of hundreds of commercial and residential water damaged fungal remediation projects throughout the United States It was unbelievable that a water damage event would occur to me. The source of the water damage inside our home was due to a HVAC contractor whose employee 4 years previously incorrectly installed the exhaust vent resulting in combustion water chronically venting in to the attic space rather than outside the building envelope. We discovered the defect when The wet ceiling collapsed in one of the bedrooms. Needless to say, the insurance company representing the HVAC contractor refused to provide sufficient funds to correct the damages. Our own insurance company refused to get involved claiming it was caused by someone else and not their liability. What a stalemate. Needless to say we had to pay out of pocket for the correction of the damages and then seek subrogation of the claim. It was a very bad experience dealing with the insurance industry. Paul Davis Restoration was selected because none of the other restoration contractors throughout the entire Kansas City region could muster the professional quality and legitimate response required to mitigate the wide spread damage to our home. Excuses included the fact that I was a CIH and thy were afraid of the oversight and scrutiny I would have placed on them. Other simply did not understand the brevity and extent of the damage and how to mitigate the water damage. Amazing, because they called themselves mold mitigation experts! Paul Davis' prompt response to the water damage and mold growth in our beautiful custom built home started with a thorough site assessment. A local IH and a Paul Davis professional visited the home collected air and surface samples. The Paul Davis representative prepared a cost estimate and emailed the estimate to us two days following the site visitation. We reviewed the estimate, signed the contract and the very next day a crew arrive to begin the site remediation. Extensive drywall and all of the attic insulation was removed. The remaining attic surfaces were extensively cleaned and treated, New drywall and painting of ceilings, and walls, and HVAC duct cleaning, and carpet cleaning was performed. The attic was re-insulated. The entire process took Paul Davis about 12 days. The HVAC contractor came out and corrected the combustion gas venting problem. We were very pleased with the cost effective competence demonstrated by Paul Davis. As a bonus the crews involved were knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. I would hire them again. My experience with PDR was very positive. I had to renovate the whole house (total loss) after a fire. Given the size of the project and that tenants, insurance companies, contractors and subcontractors were involved, I adjusted my expectations in terms of staying on schedule and PDR certainly lived up to them. Jeff Goldman, Owner, explained to me the entire process in the early stages, answered with details every question and promised only things that he could hold. He also worked closely with the insurance company adjuster about assessing the damage, something I greatly appreciated. Pam Aversano, cotents division manager, and her team did a very professional work with cleaning and taking care of the house content and moving it out. Pam was very supportive and responded to every request. She managed this complex and emotional process exceptionally. John Bannister was the project manager. He did an amazing job. He was in constant contact with me, updating about the progress of the project, suggested ideas for the renovation that I have not thought of and find the places to save me money, he made every effort to complete all phases in time. He had the patience for every question and always fit his schedule to mine. John made sure to complete everything in accordance with my request and to my complete satisfaction. His knowledge, experience and personality have contributed a lot to the success of the project and it was great to work with him. A fire destroyed our large tractor barn and we contacted PDR to haul off the sheet metal, large timbers, and wreckage. They came out with a bobcat right away and hauled away the sheet metal so that it wouldn't continue to blow in the high winds and cause additional damage. It was a potentially dangerous situation and we appreciated the fact that they stabilized it immediately. read more
