The folks at Paul Mitchell Birmingham are so professional, so polite, so attentive to detail and they are dedicated to client satisfaction, and we've been getting our haircut there since 2018. I don't know that I can list every one there who has served us, so I will let you know of our most recent visit. Wednesday, 06/29/2022, Faith welcomed us and we signed in. Andrea S cut my brother's hair and she is so talented, professional, and nice. Alexa M cut my hair and she is also so talented, professional and nice too. And Debbie, one of the teachers, is also so talented, professional and nice too. Oh, and somehow, Alexa, Andrea, Faith, and Debbie all have such very attractive hand printing, like the sort of hand printing, perfect letters one might expect of an elementary school teacher, or an engineer. The folks at Paul Mitchell Birmingham deliver the kind of top quality service that just makes me and my brother feel good. I can really see the ladies there going really far in life with their careers, and with everything they do. Schools are always a hit or miss. Came here for a pedicure and manicure with my mom. The students were the sweetest people ever but the girl doing my pedicure unfortunately had no idea what she was doing bless her. My person even said she'd never even had a pedi cure before and she doesn't even know how to paint her own nails. It took well over 2 hours for a pedicure and the nail polish was lumpy and messy. They also don't have driers so your nails are bound to mess up. Now the young lady who did our nails did a great job! She has a bright future in beauty. Service wise these are some of the nicest and most patient students ever. However, the service and prices are not worth the hours you lose and the messy job you get while trying to save a few bucks. I once got a blowout and keratin treatment here. It looked like I stuck my finger in a light socket. Such frizz and puffiness. This school does have great hours and clean bathrooms. I'm impressed with the services I received at Paul Mitchell. The students and instructors are professional. Every aspect of my service was monitored and ensured I was getting what I asked for. Nearly all the chairs had clients in them and those who didn't were busy practicing highlighting, roller sets and facials. It's impressive to see how well organized the class was. I was in the chair for almost 5 hours for color and a cut. The student was just as nice as she could be, but really wasn't prepared to do anything on her own. One of the teachers stepped in at the end to get me out of there. We selected a color to yield light brown hair, but it is now almost black...maybe 2 1/2 hours for her to apply was too long? Will be trying to strip the color now... read more

Do not ever get facial here they charge you 30$ for rubbing your face 5-10mins only, they call it mini facial, u do not get even properly washed your face. Not wiped my face even with washcloth. Asked for haircut (trimmed my hair to remove splits on my hair, it took 5min to finish with trimming, seriously, i could do much better doing it myself.) It just takes them forever to blow dry and brushing. It was my last visit ever to any Paul Mitchel Schools ever, hope i will not meet graduates from this school in real salons, i do not think they will be good what are they doing after graduating from here. I will start going to Aveda school, to give them a try. But i liked their hair treatment. I had damaged hair after heavy bleaching and balayage, my hair was tangled all the time, impossible to brush it or do anything. After their triplex(?) treatment my hairs went back to normal. I know these are students but, I think anyone who has received a pedicure knows what a good pedicure experience is like. My feet didn't soak long enough. My nails were not trimmed enough. The exfoliation was 2 minutes. The lotion was 2 minutes. Nail polish was uneven. Nails were jagged. Put it this way...The lady on my right was there when I sat down and she wasn't finished when I left. All in all, don't expect a relaxing or quality service. They are just learning. Would give it no stars. Horrible experience. The stylist was unkept and unprofessional in appearance and had no clue what she was doing. Went in to get a root touch up and a trim, she cut off 5 inches and the color was atrocious. STAY AWAY!!!!!!! read more

Shout out to Instructor John McCombs. I went in with severely damaged hair. I was so ashamed for not taking proper care of it. Mr.Combs assessed my hair and gave me some good suggestions and tips on how to take care of it. The student was excellent and very attentive. I left out feeling like a movie star. I got a keratriplex treatment, cut and blow dry. The cut and treatment were fine, but the student and instructor that I had did not know how to blow dry hair. I came out of the salon looking like a frizzy puffy lion person. No salon that I have ever been to would have let me leave like that for fear of tarnishing their reputation. The blowout was so abysmal that I had to put my hair in a bun afterward. My background is Italian so I don't have that perfect "white girl" hair, which I think is what they're used to. If you have anything other than perfect frizz-free straight hair, this is not the place for you. Buyer beware. read more

I was very unhappy with my experience today! The student who colored my hair was very sweet and good but when I went to pay it was $10.00 more than what I expected. The girl at the desk who checked me out was not very personable and said that they had to use more color this time and that was why I was charged more. I was never informed of this at any time. This was my third visit and my hair is the same length that it has always been. Why would I require more color this time? She just said that that's the way it is sometimes. Not a very good business practice I paid my money but they have lost a customer. I felt that I was ripped off and I will find another place. read more

Didm't have to wait. Had a different girl that was to do my hair. Color is great, but it took her a while to cut. She didn't know how to cut curly hair and asked for help numerous times. The end result was good. read more

Got my hair highlighted here, and the student did a great job! Her teacher was supervising and checking in, so I didn't feel nervous about a student doing things to my hair. SO much cheaper than going to a real salon - I definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for a cheaper way to color/highlight your hair. read more

June 11th: I have given the Paul Mitchell School of Cosmology one star. The student that did my hair did a great job and had an outstanding personality; however, the young lady at the front desk (I think her name is Kira) has had a terrible attitude since I started going to the school about 3 months ago. I know she's not a people person and she has shown prejudice behavior toward African American students and clients. When I call to make my appointments I always know when its her because her attitude is always always so awful and unpleasant. I love the concept and I love the products but you really need to do something about your front line staff because you're going to lose a lot of great clients and at the end of the day only the students will suffer. read more

I went here for a hair cut. The student was an unsupervised novice. I had to leave with a 2 " variance in the first layer cut, I paid my $10 and was almost in tears. Its not worth the cheap price to grow out a BAD haircut. read more

This school will cost you a tone of money . Their isn't one professional person in the building from the owner's down to the teachers. It's definitely a glass house that appears beautiful but clearly needs to be torn down and rebuilt. read more

I've been going here for years. Occasionally you get a student who needs a lot of work, but the teachers come through on a regular basis to watch over everything. I enjoy going here and have followed two of the graduates, but eventually they start charging over $100 and it's back to the school for me. They have Phase 1 and Phase 2 levels. The Phase 2 students are the advanced class and cost more than Phase 1. They are the ones I usually go to. read more

IF I COULD GIVE IT NEATIVE TEN STARS, I WOULD. DO NOT GO HERE. A year later, my hair is growing out again from the damage. Here's the story: The lady who did my hair was the head instructor, and she took over after three of her other girls failed to complete the task. They struggled to wash my hair thoroughly and kept missing a part of my hair. Then, when it came time to straighten it, the instructor burned my hair so badly it wouldn't even move. She used some spray in my hair that was like a hairspray although I specifically stated that I do NOT use hairspray in my natural hair. She damaged my natural hair and it was stringy on the ends, and when my mother and I both told her it was not acceptable or to my liking, she said I just needed a trim and denied the damage to my hair that was clear as day. I literally watched as this lady went over the ends of my hair with the extra high temp flat iron like eight to eleven times on one piece of hair ( I thought she'd stop after the third pass)!!!!THE DAMAGE WAS BEYOND NEEDING A TRIM!!! Mind you, we know hair very well. Both of my grandparents on my mother's side are hair stylists and own a chain of salons in Louisville, KY. We just thought this would be an inexpensive good experience. WRONG. Their attitudes are terrible, and they severely lack the talent it takes to even do their own hair well. Just don't go here if you value your hair, your time, your money, or your peace of mind. read more
