Dinner on the second night of our Brugge weekend getaway found us at De Bühne…read more Small & quaint dining room with the loveliest person helping us through our evening. You'll want to make reservations here as they were fully booked for the evening & were turning people away Started with the nicest Belgian beers - I had a white & the Mr had another light version of beer that was definitely not light in flavor - these were fabulous Amuse consisted of a nice homemade cheddar biscuit - rosemary & herbs plus a nice pungent cheese - so good! Starters included: Curry Empanadas with broccoli & cheese plus, beet, & potato tempura - this tart was amazing! The flavor was complex and savory and had just a hint of spice / heat to it. Wished we had had about 8 more of these.... Mushrooms & polenta w nut crumble on top - lovely terrine of tender mushrooms & the creamy polenta layer underneath gave the dish a nice texture Main course consisted of the Celery Biscuit - almost like a tart w carrot and potato, 3 different filled (stuffed) vegetables as tomato, broccoli, eggplant Passion Fruit Tart & Pear Tart for dessert & the passion fruit was a mousse-like creamy dessert while the pear tart was like a delicious crumble. We liked them both While there, the table near us had also ordered the empanadas and the lady stated she did not care for cheese. The chef replaced the cheese w/ a bechamel for her so this was further evidence that all dishes were prepared as ordered & everything was fresh, well cooked & very much admired by us! Huge fans!!

Totally exquisite experience. Every aspect of the evening…read more A very intimate setting with first class service. By first class, I mean tremendous attention to detail in every aspect of both service and food. It felt like I was a guest in their home. You'll know what I mean after you visit. As mentioned in an earlier review, they have been in business 20 years. They being husband and wife. We never saw him, but my wife spotted a man in the kitchen and asked her. They make everything on the menu themselves - right down to the table bread. The food was absolutely superb and the presentation was exceptional. We had made a reservation because I learned about the place on Yelp and knew it was small. On the day we visited, it was quiet with only three tables (another cool aspect about a quiet highly differentiated evening) and the one of the couples we spoke with also heard about this place on Yelp. When we asked the owner, she said she didn't really know anything about Yelp until recently when they sent her some mail. This was a fantastic dinner and evening. I would love to come back soon!

We grabbed a dessert to justify taking up table space and wound up being totally blown away! We selected the speculas merengue cake, which was super sweet but a textural and flavor explosion in your mouth. They had a bunch of healthy salads and grain bowls for less than $5, tons of beautiful baked goods -- both savory and sweet -- and a nice selection of soups and everything seemed super well priced. Next time we're in Brugge we're going to plan to have a full meal here.

Thank goodness it was close to the awesome B&B I stayed at (shout-out to Room's B&B!). Nothing makes you work up an appetite like pedaling 40 km around the Ypres Salient. Especially when you haven't ridden a bike since you were a kid and you are currently a chubby American tourist. I wisely rented a bike from that strange bikingbox place that has absolutely no signage. It's a convenience store right on the same road as the Menen Gate and my favorite store in all of Belgium: Shop & Go! This yummy food cost only about 10 Euros. And it was delicious! The friendly lady who took my order recommended that I get the fries with mayo, because 'when in Rome...' I was pretty grossed-out by the mayo-dipped fries, but the fries alone were amazing. They were light and golden-crispy. Perfect! My burger had a bunch of toppings like cheese and bacon and such. I have never had a tastier burger. And the beer! I was so tired from biking, I went for the huge size. Thank goodness it was just a short walk back to my B&B. Great meal, great trip! I loved Ieper so much! I would go back in a hearbeat!

Let it be known that this is the best burger place I have found in Europe thus far. A variety of regular burgers but also several variation. I had the sweet chicken and husband had the Big Giant. We had zero complaints, and neither did our kids who got a free toy with their kids meal. Highly recommend as the first place to eat in Ypres.
