This cathedral took 600 years to build and received massive damage during the war but it's beautiful today. There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance.

The church is the main church of Frankfurt. It is the largest religious building in the city and a former collegiate church. Although the English name is the Frankfurt Cathedral, it has never been an actual cathedral. Rather it is a Kaiserdom or an "imperial great church" or the Dom because of its historic role as former election and coronation church of the Holy Roman Empire. The earliest church, and an adjacent royal palace which stood on the site, was originally founded in 852. The palace itself was created in the 9th century under Louis the Pious, the son of Charlemagne. Centuries later, the Palace Church was replaced twice as the community changed. Since 1356, when the Golden Bull of 1356 was issued by Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor, emperors of the Holy Roman Empire were elected in this collegiate church as Kings of the Romans. From 1562 to 1792, emperors-elect were crowned here. When the city of Frankfurt secularized, St. Bartholomew's became the city's main church. In 1867, St. Bartholomew's was destroyed by a fire and rebuilt in its present style. During World War II, the old town of Frankfurt was devastated by bombardments of the Allied Air Forces. St. Bartholomew's suffered severe damage. The interior was burned out completely. It was restored in the 1950s. Definitely worth a stop in Frankfurt.

The holy mass is held every Sunday at 9:30 am in English and at 11:30 am in German. The parish is also quite busy with charity events, pilgrimage and social work. It is a great way to connect to other expats in Frankfurt away from home. Besides all the church work, the builing itself is rather small but very beautifully decorated with ancient murals and marvelous architectural details - well worth a visit.

Despite this, it has a modern feel. Certainly so compared to the Dom St. Bartholomäus. Experiencing only minor damage during the Allied bombing during World War II, it is very modern inside and looking like it's just gotten a fresh coat of paint. Interesting to hear from our tour guide some of the more modern history of this church, especially to know that Jim Morrison and the Doors were here when they toured Europe in the 1970's. Definitely worth a stop on your tourism in Frankfurt.

Romerberg is the historical center of Frankfurt's old town, known as Altstadt with traditional half-timbered houses & medieval Fountain of Justice in the square's center. Most buildings were destroyed in WWII, local authorities have reconstructed the main Frankfurt Square in recent decades & built new buildings in accordance with original plans. The square is dominated by the Romer building complex (City Hall), seat of the Frankfurt city administration. In Romerberg there are many cafes, shops, craftsmen's workshops & museums. Recommended are St Nicholas Church, St Paul's Church &Historical Museum. The square is also well known for Christmas Markets & imperial coronations. The Coronation Route, a walking tour through the colorful historic old town is recommended.

Whenever visiting a city for the first time, if there's an observation deck, I think it's a…read morefantastic way to begin to explore your surroundings. Seeing a city from a helicopter-level view puts the whole city into perspective. So we did just that upon arriving at Frankfurt. Located in the financial district of Frankfurt, finding this large skyscraper was a little confusing but we realized we were at the right place when we saw a small line outside. Depending on the time of day you visit, and whether it's a weekend, you may have to wait a little while. The line went by fast for us. Once you get inside, and you pay a reasonable fee (less than 10 euros), you'll take an elevator to the top to reach the observation deck. Take a couple of pics, enjoy the views, and you'll be on your way. It's a quick attraction that you can get out of the way in 30 minutes or so unless there's a long line. Main Tower is the third most popular attraction in Frankfurt according to TripAdvisor. And the 4th tallest building in Germany. Enjoy the views!

The Frankfurt main tower is no exception with some great views and an overly slow security and ticket process which you should allow extra time for. There are bathrooms up top and people are all friendly and willing to help take photos.
