I have noticed this in Italian restaurants where there is not one dedicated server per table but just really who is free. 4 different people served me and let me give the run down: one guy was very rushed and brusque and when he was carrying a ton of plates at once, expected me to help him by grabbing a plate, one guy was super sarcastic and gave me attitude when I asked for salt (his response was something along the lines of "that's really funny that you want salt", the lady was very polite, and the guy who cleared my plate was very nice. Seems like they were getting a big group in so they were rushing people. I understand that. But the attitude about the salt was not necessary. I spoke with the cashier and explained I thought the food was undersalted and I may prefer salty foods; however, I could not explain the rude service in Italian. #reasonstolearnitalian. Would come back here just to spite that waiter after I learn Italian and hear him making rude remarks and then I can make rude remarks back in Italian. Otherwise, come here for decent tasting food and big portions --- just don't expect to be blown away by the service.

Only two slices of the same type of cheese. This is the 4th charcuterie board we had this vacation and this falls in last. Caprese Salad - Ok. Probably the best part. After shopping in the area, we walked into Cin Cin and were greeted by a friendly waiter who directed us upstairs into another dining area. Dining area was spacious with two tables literally perched on a small outdoor balcony. Unfortunately both were occupied when we arrived but I recommend coming early/later to see if you can grab one of those tables. We were quickly provided menus but unfortunately had a hard time getting the attention of our server for the rest of the meal. However, once we got our food, it completely made up for the poor service. We ordered the carbonara and another red sauce pasta with the same cured pork on the carbonara (can't remember the name) but the sauce, the texture of the pasta, the flavors... everything was absolutely perfect. We ordered a white wine to pair with our pasta which was delicious as well. By far, the best pasta we had in Italy and one of the best pastas I've had in my life! Again, service was subpar, at least where we sat that night, but the food absolutely makes up for it. We noticed it was all locals when we were there that night too which was telling. Will definitely be bookmarking this place to recommend to friends and family and will absolutely be back next time I'm in Rome.

After three weeks traveling through Croatia, we returned to Rome yesterday -- and the first thing we did was come back here. It's always such a joy! Our favorite treat is Dubai chocolate gelato. A restaurant-bakery combo that is highly regarded in Rome…read more It draws a crowd. I had an eggplant parmigiana that was lovely. I did go Italian however in ways that prevent one from fully being able to judge a kitchen. A huge percentage of the antipasti in Rome are plates of either cheese or a single cold meat such as a prosciutto. * Brief interruption: Note that antipasto here just means appetizer. The large plates of mixed Italian cold cuts, cheeses and olives that we call an antipasto are an American Italian thing. American Italian is a variant of Southern Italian, so there may be some regions where our large plates of mixed cold meats can be found. * Back to the main story: Since so much of Italian openers involves a "found objects" approach of just charcuterie or just cheese from the store, I felt I sort of had to do that sometimes. So I did a four cheese plate here. Since cheese comes before a meal in Italy, rather than after a meal as it does in France, Restaurants avoid giving you super strong cheeses that would wreck your taste buds for the goodies that are to follow. Gorgonzolas or Italian versions of smelly runny cheeses such as a French Brie are either kept off the plate entirely or are served in mild manifestations. (Americans do that with Brie. Americans do not serve Brie with b**ls. I don't respect that but I have learned to live with it.) The Italians are correct though that if you are having cheese for an opener rather than a closer, then the cheese has to be kept mild and civilized. No hogging the microphone and silencing the other dishes. I don't know the names of any of the cheeses I had but I got one sweet cheese, two very similar harder salty cheeses and a very very mild Brie variant. All were Italian. * * * My cheese was lovely. My eggplant was lovely. The room was lovely. I would have no problem coming back to Cresci and seeing what the kitchen can really do.
