Do not go here…read more.. After being referred to her 2 years ago, I went to see Dr. Pong because my regular neurologist retired from her practice. I was sent home with a 72-hour EEG and told the results stated all my brainwaves were normal; therefore I did not have epilepsy. Doctor Pong then diagnosed me with NES (psychogenic seizures) and referred me to a psychiatrist. She also took me off of the anti-seizure medications I was on. At this time this did not make exact sense because my previous neurologist had diagnosed me with epilepsy based on my symptoms, even though we had not caught the irregular brain waves on an EEG prior. Dr. Pong was very kind and well-mannered, explaining why this diagnosis might fit me. I ended up accepting this diagnosis because some of what she said made sense, although I continued to have seizures which disturbed my life and work. Fast forward to late last year, I had an appointment again at Mid Atlantic, now with Dr. Ramos, to discuss options because the seizures were still disturbing my life, even with therapy and psychiatric help. Do not see Dr. Ramos if you are a woman potentially with NES or epilepsy. I do not believe he is incompetent but he was biased in his approach and did not even explore the possibility there was still something underlying causing these seizures. We were seen, and he said, "You're so brave for coming in to see us." In an attempt to potentially be understanding or kind or whatever reasoning, what he said came off as incredibly condescending. What the hell do I have to brave for? He should have done more investigating to help me. I was still having seizures from multiple times a month to about every month... For the last 2 years. He offered more psychiatric referrals and said there was nothing more we could do. Well, recently I went to another neurologist who finally did a 72-hour EEG with determination to help me figure things out and found the epileptic activity on this EEG to explain my seizures. The entire time from 2 years ago until now I could have been seizure-free while on medication and not missing work, school, and life.

Clear guidance was given before the sleep…read morestudy and ample calls to confirm were made, because it is not just a typical visit and the study is costly. You should see how much the bill was to insurance! All billing-related matters were cleared with my insurance and with me before providing any services, and I appreciate the due diligence and transparency. At arrival, you pull a ticket at the automated kiosk at the gate to activate the gate arm to allow passage. There was no one in the booth, but I didn't expect anyone to be. Parking prices are clearly posted, but Comprehensive Sleep Care Center validates your parking to $0. There is a lot of surface parking (no garage) and the lot is well lit and at the corner of a fairly well-traveled intersection, so it's not creepy or spooky at all at night even if there wasn't a soul in sight. The exterior of the building is swanky, clean, well maintained, adequately lit, and has upscale decor and vibe. Getting in wasn't too easy, and Datawatch Systems, the vendor that provides after-hours door security and access to this building, had inattentive personnel both times I connected with them by pressing the button at the front pedestal that houses ADA push pad (incredibly long wait with the phone ringing over and over) and then when someone picked up, they sounded like they had just woke up. This was 9 PM. The interior was also very clean and well maintained. There were some cleaning staff that just watched me (probably not permitted to allow strangers to enter) as I struggled with getting someone on the phone to let me in. The lobby of the office is fairly small, with seating for about 5 or 6 people. An attendant came out right away, named Yitz. He was cordial, attentive, professional, and provided clear and confident answers to my questions. You first get your parking ticket validated. Then you are asked to take a COVID rapid test and test negative before you're permitted to continue. The process on-site and next steps were clear. I was assigned one room for the sleep study and a different room for the titration study. Both had their own thermostats, a fan, a TV, a nightstand, an arm chair, a queen-size bed, and plenty of blankets. I waited about 15-20 minutes for the attendant to come hook me up with all the wires for the first study and about 45 minutes for the second study. There were others getting similar studies done, but in their own rooms so privacy is maintained. When you're connected to all the electrocardiography wired pads attached to wires on your legs, chest, and head as well as the strain gauges to measure your breathing (takes about 20 minutes), it's incredibly uncomfortable and awkward to move around so it is quite a challenge to fall asleep but evidently I did well so it might not be as bad as you might think. You could use your phone or read a book, but really the best path is to go to sleep and as normally as you can. In the morning, the technician removes all the pads/wires and if your chest and legs are hairy, hair will rip off. You have the option to shower on site (they provide towels, soap, and shampoo) or just go home. The liquid adhesive that goes on your head to measure brain activity is nasty and feels disgusting on your fingers, so I recommend showering on site. Make sure your parking ticket is validated, or else risk paying $10 to exit. As of mid-December 2022, they don't require masks anymore, but feel free to wear one if it makes you feel more comfortable.

I reached out to Joya based on a recommendation and she gave me some good advice and a plan which helped so much. A year later at 3, my daughter once again had sleep "issues". I once again reached out to Joya for help, I was so tired and desperate. She explained how toddler sleep training works and laid out another plan for me to follow. Within 3 days, we were all finally sleeping again! Joya is a baby whisperer! She is easy to work with, personable and has a wealth of knowledge. We knew because of COVID we wouldn't have the hands on support from loved ones that new parents need and there are truly no words to describe how much Joya's support meant to me. We initially booked a mix of day and night sessions the first 6 weeks and ended up extending until I went back to work at 12 weeks because I wasn't ready to let her go! The overnight sessions meant this exhausted mama could sleep, something that was so foreign those first few weeks. And while for a brief moment it seemed like a true luxury, it was actually an investment in my health and healing from labor and delivery which ended in an emergency c-section. Joya helped me get the most ideal latch and hold the c-section (maneuvering baby around incision was tough), maintain a robust supply and also build a decent stash in the freezer. When my supply dipped she helped me get it right back up. Because we didn't have access to in person childcare classes, I had quit a bit of anxiety about bringing baby home that I didn't expect since I had so much hands on experience with my Godchildren. Joya eased my first bath anxiety because I was worried I'd either make the water too hot and hurt her or too cold and make her uncomfortable, she showed us how to help baby receive gas, as gas was the culprit in our hardest nights, and even organized her room in a way that made middle of the night diaper (and sometimes clothing) changes easier. Most helpful of all her support was establishing good sleep habits and routines with our daughter that i'm sure will be life long if we keep up with her suggestions. At 3mos, she's slept through the night 4 times, so I think we're on the cusp of consistent restful nights ourselves! This was critical for me because sleep plays a huge factor in their development, behavior and overall wellness. Our baby is HARD to put down - sometimes we rock her for nearly 30 minutes - but has gotten easier over time the more we stick with tips from Joya. I felt like I had a shoulder to lean on in Joya, I felt seen and heard and no question seemed too small to ask. We only know what we know as first time parents and she gently and honestly offered her best guidance. I miss her already!!! I plan to bombard her with regular updates and cute pics of our daughter :)

So to start from the beginning, a couple of years ago I went to a chiropractor and found out that I've lost the curve of my spine in my neck. After about a month of visits, I was unimpressed, and felt no progress so I stopped going. I ignored the problem for the next couple of years until about a month ago. I've had problems sleeping for several years now and recently my neck and shoulders were getting more achy and uncomfortable. So I set up an appointment at Rockville Medical and Disc Center and also scheduled a sleep study at a sleep clinic. During my first appointment at the chiro they took x-rays, and a few days later I went back to review what they saw. I was impressed by the thoroughness of the review and their explanations. They went over everything and provided me with their suggested program. I started treatment that same day. After just a few days of treatment, both my neck and shoulders were already starting to feel better and I started sleeping through the night. I was able to cancel my sleep study and now a month later, my body feels great and I still haven't had problems sleeping. During every appointment, I'm asked how my body is feeling and how I'm sleeping. I look forward to going to each appointment and feel great since I've started treatment.

NIKKI IS AMAZING!!!…read more We started sleep shaping with our daughter with Nikki's guidance and coaching. Nikki walked us through detailed timelines and things we need to do in order to help our daughter to get better sleep at night. Nikki is VERY detail oriented, and when our daughter turned 6 months, Nikki helped us sleep train her to sleep in her OWN CRIB! And in turn, baby is sleeping better, well rested. And my husband and I are also SLEEPING MORE, since baby has learned to sleep by herself and sleep through the night. I honestly don't know what we would do without Nikki's coaching through our sleep journey with our daughter. One thing i love about Nikki is that she is VERY open to WORKING with the family's schedule, and she was HONEST, and made it clear that sleep coaching and training is not THE SAME for everyone as every baby is different. Nikki educated us, worked with our schedule, listened to what we were open to doing and listened to what we DID NOT want to do (i.e - the cry it out method/extinction method of sleep training.). I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND NIKKI! We love you Nikki! And we will be forever grateful for you!

When I had my baby during the summer of 2020 at the height of the pandemic with a toddler at home, I knew we would need extra support. We were focused on lactation support and light household support such as help with the kitchen, laundry and light meal prep.  Nikki and I got along right away, and not only did she provide the hands-on help we needed, but she also played a big role in helping with my postpartum anxiety with her gentle encouragement and lactation expertise. She was very transparent about her activities and safety precautions during the pandemic so I was ensured that she was safe to have over in the house, and she always wore a mask. She gave me all kinds of insight to helpful sleep tips for both the baby and toddler (she's also a professional sleep consultant/specialist!), feeding tips for both baby and toddler, and pumping and nursing tips for me. I trusted her completely with my baby and in the house, and she was excellent at time management. I would give her a list of things to do for the day, and she'd get through them all, while doing additional things around the house too that I didn't even realize needed to get done. Nikki's also a professional organizer, and she tackled piles of messes that have been sitting around for months!! She even single-handedly helped to change the layout of our guest room to make a telework space for me while also watching the baby. She also helped get both the nursery and my toddler's room organized and in shape which was causing me a lot of stress. Any parent knows how much work it is keeping on top of transitioning the kids clothes, shoes and toys as they grow, and she came up with storage solutions and systems that made the transitions easy. When Nikki traveled during the holidays, she connected me with another doula to cover for the couple of weeks she was gone, who I really liked too. Overall, Nikki was fabulous and her company and friendship was amazing during those foggy first couple of months. The postpartum journey is a sacred time and I appreciated Nikki being there for me and her flexibility along the way to what my family needed. I looked forward to Nikki's visits so much. I highly recommend reaching out to Nikki for any support you may need whether you're a new parent or have a couple of kiddos already. I plan on keeping in touch with her for sure!
