I really did appreciate Dr. Cheema at first. He seems like a genuine and kind human. And then when I asked for help extending my leave he got upset because I missed an appointment and told me he thought I was ready to go back to work. I told him what my job was telling me was acceptable, how I needed some extra breaks in between being screamed at by customers and that since I was grieving and had a new family crisis and death I needed some more time off work in addition to postpartum depression and anxiety. He got upset with me when I missed an appointment. His adhd, sleep deprived patient who was already fighting for her life missed an appointment and he immediately defaulted to being frustrated with me the next time I saw him. And then he told me "I will tell your job that you need these extra breaks and that once a month you need to call out for a mental health day no problem" SO I DID JUST THAT. I called out and I waited on the accommodations to come through my companies leave and accommodations department. But that never happened. Instead I get a phone call WEEKS later from Dr. Cheema. Where he apologizes for LYING TO ME and says he will only agree to the breaks. Getting me in trouble with my job for no good reason. I've had 5 deaths in the past few years on top of 2 births that both came with postpartum issues. He knew I was struggling and gaining an excessive amount of weight. My heart rate was an issue, and I was being monitored with the meds he prescribed. On top of this he had the audacity to call me out for missing an appointment ? When I would be waiting 30-45 minutes PAST my appointment time on a regular basis with no penalty or monetary benefit from him.... He wants to require payment if I miss it if I'm late but what about when HE IS LATE... nothing. After he admitted lying to me and he left me hanging high and dry in the middle of a crisis I sought help elsewhere. I found someone else who knew exactly what I needed and had no problem telling my job that I needed breaks and a day off from the abuse that came with the job. AND HERE WE ARE YEARS LATER... his wife Karen continues to call me asking me for money. "I'm not sure why you're not answering my calls" uhhh... maybe because your husband is a liar and predatory on people who truly need help? Let's chalk the money I "owe" you on services NOT RENDERED. Take the money I "owe" you as opportunity cost, y'all wasted my time numerous times. Read the other reviews on YELP. You're unorganized and I'm not paying another cent. Take my non payment as my late fee for all the times you made me sit in the waiting room WAY past when my appointment was. Respect is mutual and it's clear we both have none of that for each other. Time to move on. Don't call me again. I could have written this review years ago and should have. Your passive aggressive voicemail asking why I don't answer your calls just did it for me today. That's enough. Why didn't you answer my calls when I needed actual help? on top of that I owe what? $80 in late fees. Gtfoh. Leave me alone. "Sorry I lied to you" all I wanted was time to myself to recover. He told me I could have that and then backtracked trying to say because he didn't see me those days I called out that he couldn't cover them... huh??? This man saw me once a month and KNEW WHAT I WAS GOING THROUGH. He TOLD ME he would get it covered and then LATER he told me "nvm" LEAVE ME ALONE. I'm not paying another dime to a liar or a thief of time. Figure it out yourself! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Do not get caught up in this man's bs. I got the help I truly needed elsewhere with no problem. Anyone considering this man should heed my warning and do the same! He should retire now, with any shred of dignity he has left. I've been going to Dr. Cheema for years. He's a good doctor and very knowledgeable in his field. He's a patient listener, offers good recommendations, and takes as long as a patient needs. Occasionally, this may cause the next patient to wait, but that is rare and if you were the one needing extra time, you would be grateful. The staff is accommodating with scheduling and it's easy to reschedule as long as you give them the standard 24 hr notice. read more

My son saw Dr. Cheema for issues from a TBI, and was doing well. Then, we lost our health insurance. I called the office to let them know and to ask if we could pay for the next visit before our new insurance began (we have a secondary but they don't take it), but as soon as I said we lost our insurance, Karen (office manager and Dr. Cheema's wife) immediately said she was cancelling my son's next appointment. No option to pay for it ourselves, and she actually said to me "Good luck finding another doctor. No one takes that insurance. And that means no more medications, too!" WHAT?! She sounded almost gleeful. I was in shock. Fortunately, all but one of his meds had a refill, but they REFUSED to send in a refill for that one prescription. This is a CHILD, on a mind-altering medication and they prevented him from getting it! Needless to say, we aren't going back with our new insurance, and don't recommend this office. Dr. Cheema is very smart and caring, but they tend to be disorganized and forgetful. They do not follow through on tasks, like calling medications into pharmacies or filling out forms you need, unless you have them do it during your appt (so I have made appts solely to get forms filled out/faxes sent). Scheduling appointments is difficult because of their hours, and they have cancelled on me several times even though I was out of my meds. Also, they got into the habit of not answering their voicemail messages, so if there's something you need, you must be sure to get through to someone! Once you're there, waiting time is at least 90 minutes, but it's because he lets his appointments go for as long as the patient wants, which is good. read more

Most of my life I had a great career and an exciting life. Yes, I was prone to depression, but dealt with it through hard work and a love for long distance running and fitness. I had chronic insomnia. Through no fault of my own, I fell into a terrible place in my life. He warned me that recruiters zero in on people that are depressed and I was only closing doors for my future. My chronic insomnia was terrible. Life was not fun. Dr. Cheema, instead of insulting me and telling I have to want to get better or similar insults said "Trust me, I know what I'm doing." He really did! He also acknowledged my talents and intelligence, commenting that I was as smart as him. Frankly, I have a collection of talents, am a genius in some areas while I'm impaired in others. These huge gaps in my abilities have great meaning and when I use my talents life is easy. By understanding where I was a genius and where I had weakness, he helped me in many undertakings and especially learning. This knowledge would have been helpful to me at any point of my life. Dr. Cheema is a genius. His knowledge of brain chemistry is exceptional as is his general holistic knowledge of medicine. He has a passion for the latest research, the state of the art of current and future drugs and brain science, as well as full body health, nutrition, supplements, alternative medicine and motivation. It is one of the fastest moving fields of research in the world. He treats me as a whole person. Many of his directions are free. For example I was directed to watch on PBS "What are dreams" for the latest knowledge on sleep and how to improve my sleep. My chronic insomnia is much improved. Yes, first he put me on medications and weaned me off them. And yet, he also listens. When he had diabetes, and it's an area I researched the last few years of my life because my girl friend is diabetic he was interested in my scholarly review of research. A true genius learns from others. While I paid for 15 minute consultations, he often spends over an hour with me, just like he does for other patients. He deals as an internist with your entire body and discusses any ailments or life habits one has as well as general health and life questions. He is the ultimate Holistic Doctor, he treats the entire person. Clearly, money is NOT his motivation. Consequently he will often keep you waiting. Bring something to read to use your waiting time usefully. His office is caring and personal. Yes, Dr. Cheema runs late, only because he is giving 100% to each patient. . Not your typical doctor. All in all, by providing insights into my talents and abilities, helped me through a difficult period of my life, Dr. Cheema has made me a more effective teacher, musician and engineer. One should live each day as if it's the last day of their life. One should learn like they will live forever! read more

I had scheduled a new patient appointment for someone whom I assist, and they came down with the flu. I called Dr. Cheema's to reschedule 28 hours before the appointment to be courteous because they were still running a fever. I didn't want to wait and risk them still being ill the next day. The women on the phone who I will assume is the wife, wanted to know how high the fever was. She then told me she would not give me another appointment without a doctors note to prove the person was ill! I feel like we've dodged a bullet! Unbelievable! The shortest amount of time I ever had to wait was 30 mins. He charges way more than necessary for shitty services. Never asked questions about my symptoms. Quick to medicate me in anyway. Hardly remembered me from appointment to appointment. I regret going to him and would recommend him to no one. read more

I've been to Dr. Cheema 3 or 4 times. I've NEVER had to wait more than a few minutes. Dr. Cheema is very pleasant, interested, concerned. I was looking simply for a Psychiatrist for Med. Mgmt, mainly to continue with what's been working well to date. I found Dr. Cheema to be the OPPOSITE of "Eager or Quick" to hand out medications. He mainly talked about perhaps trying to get me OFF some meds. into natural alternatives. I explained that this was not the time for me to "try new things". I needed to work and didn't want to chance any changes. He listened and respected my decision. As for the office, yes it does look/seem disorganized, as does his office. However I'm not there to rate his housekeeping skills. The only difficult thing, quite difficult is to understand him. He speaks very softly and with a very heavy accent. That has nothing to do with him as a Prescribing Doctor. I don't go to Psychiatrists for therapy, I don't know anyone who does these days. There are plenty of MFT's or LCSW's out there for that. I absolutely LOVE this doctor! How many other doctors stay up to date on the most recent global medical studies AND are not drug pushers? n my experience, not many. I was at the end of my rope with my 9 year old son. He is brilliant, but obsessive...not wanting to throw ANYTHING away, didn't sleep much, was still wetting the bed. Such a dichotomy: excellent STAR scores, but slow to do his in-class work. Reading at a 7th grade level in the 4th grade, but could hardly get through a book because of a short attention span.We had other issues like constant migraine headaches, a prior diagnosis of mega cisterna magna and an arachnoid cyst in his brain, but his pediatric neurologist didn't think those issues had anything to do with my son's behavior. The neurologist put my son on medications that made him suicidal and have serious emotional outbursts which was definitely not like my son. Dr. Cheema advised us to slowly reduce the medication and take supplements for sleep. It was like a real miracle! My son went from sleeping 4-6 hours a night to 8-10 hours within a matter of a few weeks. He went from being a sleepy zombie to having more energy than our household can contain. He is much more cheerful and 90% of the bedwetting has stopped. Yes, you will definitely have a long wait in the waiting room to see Dr. Cheema, but this doctor is as good as it gets. He is caring and an absolute genius. So knowledgeable and will not roll his eyes when, as a parent, you bring up something you have read about....Don't worry, Dr. Cheema has already read about it and will expound upon the study with thorough in-depth knowledge. Dr. Chema is a good doctor, but everyone is right, the office staff is a nightmare. And yes you will wait hours in that office with Mary the receptionist knowing full well he is running late, and not even a call from Mary to let you know that he is running hours late. Mary does not handle paperwork correctly. Mary does not apologize. Mary really needs to retire. I have cancelled three appointments with her that she did not record as cancellations. Next thing I know, I'm receiving huge bills for appointments cancelled. A nice person but not the kind that should be the intermediary for a doctor's office when people's lives are at stake. read more

Dr. Cheema has been my wife's psychiatrist for 8 years now, we've been married 11 years. She was referred to him after her previous doctor dropped our insurance company (Health Net) coverage. From the start, my wife & Dr. Cheema have included me in all visits, as they believe that her total health needs are a part of my life also. Dr. Cheema has always been extremely informative about past, current and future practices and therapies & medicines and helps us determine what is best. There have been times that our sessions go beyond the normal time, as he does not limit his practice to "cookie cutter" medicine that is dominant in the medical profession. I believe this is especially needed in this field and thankful that he doesn't just seem to care, but goes far beyond what's considered sufficient. From the start, he provided us with his phone & pager numbers and when we've had to use them, we got an immediate response to a crisis as it has happened. I have total faith in Dr. Cheema to continue his fine treatment of my wife. read more

Where do I start? One, every time you have to wait at least an hour, up to 3 or more. His staff consists of an elderly lady and his wife, neither of which seem competant enough to do their jobs, like sending in forms or prescriptions ect. Dr. Cheema is nice, but impossible to hear 50% of the time, so you just have to nod along or keep asking him to repeat himself, and it's still too quiet. I have had 1 out of every 5 appointments canceled on me for one reason or another and I once waited in the office for 3 1/4 hours. Let me repeat, 3 1/4 hours after the time of my schedualed appointment. I could deal with just him, but together with his wife and Mary, it's a nightmare seeing this doctor. Even if you call and ask, 'are you running late, should I come in later', you get a no, come in on time, and you STILL wait 2 hours or so. Completely ridiculous. DO YOUR JOBS. Send in forms. Don't wait until you get final notices on things to send them in. Call you patients if they are not going to be able to able to see the doctor during OUR slot, we have lives. read more
