They both were eager to answer all of my many questions throughout the process and even helped me out by dropping my new kitty off since I don't have a car. My girl had a few minor health issues after arriving (most likely due to the stress of moving/change in food) and Susan offered me advice about different things I could try and followed up numerous times to make sure she was settling in okay. The process overall couldn't have been any smoother and I am so appreciative of Guardian Angels and the care and diligence they put into finding good homes for all of their cats. I was introduced to the Mansfield Animal Shelter back in 2012 when I discovered that they produce a…read moreprogram on the local community cable channel, where they show all the animals available for adoption. A fantastic idea that I wish more shelters took advantage of. After a few weeks of insufferably cute faces and accompanying sad stories, I ventured over. Be sure to check the hours on their website, because they're only open a couple of hours some days, and longer hours others, due to it being staffed almost entirely by volunteers. It turns out that they are affiliated with the town animal control department and many of their rescues have been picked up as strays, or left behind after a move. They also accept dropped off pets, though preferably not the 'basket left on the doorstep' kind, which sadly was part of some of the cats' histories. I found a clean, organized place with cats at one end of the building and dogs at the other. Lots of helpful staff cleaning cages, socializing animals and carrying out the administrative side of the shelter. I was able to walk through the cat room, interacting with the cats in cages (roomy, scratching posts and individual litter-boxes), and with some that are allowed to roam freely while volunteers are there. They also have a couple of communal cat rooms with several cats living happily together. The volunteers answered questions, and I was able to use a visiting room to see a couple of cats 1 on 1. On my second visit I met Jack-O. He was a fixed, 6 year old male tuxedo cat. He was terrified of having gone from owner, to shelter, to quarantine, to the vet and finally to a room full of cats in cages. I could see in his eyes that he had just disconnected and gone to a happy place in his head. He didn't respond to verbal or food-based cues, just stayed curled up with that 'thousand yard stare'. I knew he was the one for me. The adoption process was pretty simple; Application, references checked (previous pets and the vets that cared for them) and a reasonable fee for the process (includes fixing, if necessary). I found everyone that I dealt with pleasant, professional and above all devoted to placing all those animals in good homes. Four years later Merlin (formerly Jack-O) is a happy, healthy, furry, non-rent paying roommate with a passion for chirping at birds and knocking over priceless knick-knacks. He contributes only to my sanity, refusing to deal with ground level threats like ants and spiders. I'm still a sucker for the cable show highlighting their adoptables, and often watch with Merlin directly in front of the television occasionally reaching out to see who these intruders in our living room are.

We had a heart set on two cats that we were told the day before were up for adoption! I get a call the next day from the owner Mary, telling me that they weren't up for adoption she wanted to know the girl's names who told me that probably so she can fire them. Fire a volunteer,that's nice Mary.. she wanted vet records for the cats in the Great Danes that I raised from for the last 20 years to prove that I was getting them shots in regular veterinary Care. And my husband Fred Huskies for 15 years 20 years ago in South Carolina and she wanted those records also! I guess it depends on what kind of car you pull up in so this woman can tell whether or not you have the money to take care of these animals. So we went to the Salem animal shelter they had bunk houses for animals there dogs cats these cats were the most beautiful things we have ever seen all of them there's about 15 of them up for same day adoption! They don't go into your background they don't go looking for vet records they just want to know that the cats are going to a good home with a loving family! And the $250. They sent us home with a litter box cat carrier treats litter food a bed toys everything you could think of treats to get these babies started for the next few days in a loving home. And that's exactly what they got! So did anybody reading this I would not go there! Salem animal rescue in Salem New Hampshire same day adoption, and they have a plethora of beautiful kittens cats three-legged cat that was most beautiful thing I've ever seen that ran around me like there was no tomorrow! If I could give this place zero Stars I would the only people that were good and decent with a volunteers who were apparently not caught up on which cats were up for adoption in which one's weren't! This woman was taking applications and checking out people vet bills vet checkups like she was giving away children. If I had four hands I put four thumbs down! Here are the beautiful kittens that we adopted in Salem New Hampshire! Thank you Mary for being extremely rude to us. It sneezed a few times and once was 5 or 6 times. A week later get Vet appointment and first cat covered but 2nd cat not covered because after 30 day guarantee. I ask Vet and she said read the directions. I responded they gave me a sick cat. Virus can be spread as it's air borne. One other thing the cat I adopted first at 8 months which was actually over 1 year old by his rabies certificate. I would not have taken if I knew the actual age as it lied on posting.

She is now trained as a service dog as I realized very soon after getting her that she has a very special personality. I take her to hospitals, nursing homes and visits with people that mental and physical disabilities. She also interacts with visitors of a local hotel. I had a good experience in the past but I felt that the technician was rude and shaming today at my…read morevisit and the doctor seemed to support her shaming of me- they wanted to make me feel that I was neglecting my dog. She had a skin issue that was making her gnaw at her fur and it got very matted within literally three days and with infected sores. The doctor pointed out that I couldn't prove that the matting didn't come first- insinuating that it was because she is due for a grooming.... which is why we are here in the first place to be seen to make a grooming appointment.....they basically didn't believe me that she had been experiencing a skin irritation prior to this that made her hair extremely matted in that spot. I would be willing to remove this review if my next visit proves to be better- they also tried to make me muzzle her myself and I had to go back to get them to put on the cone collar when I couldn't get it on her... meaning this is something they should already be doing for the price of the visit. There was just a sort of negative energy all around and I really hope it can be improved. It's not just about serving the dogs- it's customer service. The best part was when the girl shoved my dog's shaved off fur into my face rudely to show as proof of my maltreatment of my dog, seemingly. Steve- what specifically was said? It was the way she said it and her tone - was nasty. Hope that makes sense. The appointment setter said nothing I had experienced had happened and hung up on me. Also- the doctor didn't even say hello or greet me - basic stuff. Lol apparently also it's confrontational to ask about my dog's care and ask to not be hung up on..... what is wrong with this place? And she said no it's not that's why I asked if you wanted an estimate in kind of a rude way...I said ok sure ( in my mind I was like why not just have the estimate ready and hand it to me lol?). I said my dog needed dental surgery bc my last doc called it that-plaque removal- and she argued that no it's not surgery in a very pissed off way it felt to me. Then she brought the fur as a trophy and seemed to be shoving it in my face and seemed mad about it- she kept saying it was matted do you see? As if I can't see it.... I don't think this is great customer service do you? When I said she needed to back off basically and get out my face lol she angrily slammed a book/ laptop (it was startling so I wasn't paying attention to what it was) on the desk. Edit- these people are lying. Look at all the negative reviews they have. They are the ones who are inappropriate and rude- don't ever go here- I will never take this down. YOUR treatment of people is aggressive- and this will come back to you in karma. You are wrong here and you should be reported to the better business bureau. The girl at the desk is a full blown liar- she just says what we she wants in response to what I'm saying on the phone to make me sound so crazy to her audience- I'm merely asking basic care questions.
