However, we had a bad 2.5 years at Bay Dog Hospital with our complex needs dog. He has a pacemaker and seizures; this summer, he could have died from a very aggressive head infection which they did not spot during an exam because they did not look in his ear. I thought I made it clear when I made our first appointment that we expected to see the owner/lead vet when we brought him in for his first annual, but Gabby was on an emergency that day. Perhaps there was a miscommunication? In any event, I made it absolutely clear that day that we wanted to see only a senior Vet, and the same Vet, going forward. She was not available for booster shots six months later or 18 months later, or for the next annual. Every time we brought our dog, it was a different Vet. Almost never did Vets or techs introduce themselves to us; we are friendly folks and found this discourteous. One of the "vets of the day" suggested that our dog have his teeth cleaned, and when we reminded him that our dog has a pacemaker and so, special care would be needed in sedating him, we never got a call back. One day this past summer, I realized that my dog was somewhat listless...normally bounding with energy, he did not want to walk much. I made an appointment for that day but while my husband was driving to the clinic, they called and told us to go to University of Guelph!! I said "well, it's nothing to do with his pacemaker; I contacted Guelph and they said we just need a regular Vet; he is coming!!" (Imagine being rejected and told to drive two hours!) We were charged over $650 for an exam and tests; the vet told my husband that she had done a "full exam". The next morning, Finn could not pick up a ball in the park. he laid down and I sat beside him; stroking his ear, I noticed it was full of stuff...I touched it briefly and liquid shot up under my fingernail: the whole ear was full of dark goo!! I carried him all the way home, so distressed. We phoned the vet office; a rude receptionist said "you are paying this time!"....we hadn't even mentioned money...just wanted to bring the dog back! The male tech dragged Finn around the parking lot when Finn would not walk w him to give a urine sample. I asked him to stop but he was so angry. Jerk! The vet of the day cleaned a large quantity of pus out of Finn's ear; she did not charge us. That was Saturday. By Thursday we rushed Finn to the Vet Emergency Clinic for emergency head surgery: the infection in his ear had spread to his eye and his jaw... Imagine if we had simply relied on the statement that a full exam had been done! Thank God my dog laid down so I could stroke him and spot the mess in his ear! Some time later, my husband had a chat w the owner, who said that they had not felt comfortable dealing with Finn. Why didn't you just tell us that, rather than pawning us off on the vet of the day, trying to turn us away in an emergency, and not even looking in the dog's ear out of fear. We are on our fourth Vet now. He did a cardiology rotation in Guelph and feels quite comfortable dealing w our dog. He refused to charge us for a rabies shot recently...he'd felt badly that the paperwork was unclear (he is our fourth Vet now; the first one (who may have damaged Finn's heart during the neuter operation) is no longer practising). He, like the other three Vets we've been to apart from this clinic, always makes his appointments. Feeling a bit battered, but grateful to be dealing w our new Vet instead of a clinic that could have courteously asked us to move on...even given us a referral...rather than trying to avoid us during an emergency, and claiming to have done a full exam. I can bet that "difficult client" is written all over our file at Bay Dog Hospital, but we simply love and want to protect our complex needs dog. Wouldn't you?

This vet is extremely incompetent! I had to self-diagnose my dog a few times before he confirmed…read morethe problem. He will only investigate your dog's problem IF you bring it up. Otherwise, he will do a rushed and half-assed job examining your pet. I recently noticed my dog is developing cloudy eyes (a sign of cataracts). I brought this up during her follow-up appointment (about a week after her initial exam), and he said that he did not notice anything and that she was fine. However, after I asked him to check again, he came back and stated "Oh yes, like I said, she has cataracts". At least own up to your mistake and don't lie to a client straight to their face! Over the years, I have noticed that their fees are so inconsistent! (Exam fees = $80, Recheck fees = $50). Sometimes, they will waive the re-check fee and sometimes they will make you pay. In my most recent visit, they told me in the initial exam that I can bring my dog back without any charges for her follow-up appointment. However, when I brought her back for a recheck, they now tell me that I have to pay another fee! Their staff obviously are not on the same page and seem so clueless. At least recognize your mistake! In addition, this vet pushes meds every single visit. My friend used to go to this vet and she said the same thing too! He doesn't even give a clear diagnosis and says this "might help". I am never ever bringing my dog back to this clinic! It seems like their main objective is profit not care. Please don't make the same mistake I did. If you love your pet, please find a better clinic that actually CARES about your pet, not your wallet. FYI - they created a new Yelp page, because they had so many negative reviews. So don't be fooled!

I am outraged. When…read moreI picked up my dog Tallulah yesterday after Camille groomed her, I thought there was some kind of mistake, or maybe someone at Canine Social Company was pulling my leg. I had dropped off an itchy and smelling-like-dead-fish, shaggy ragamuffin of a dog at whom park snobs would point and snicker, "what kinda --doodle's THAT?" That's why I didn't recognize Tallulah when she emerged from Camille's salon so brushed up and out, her Afro puff bouncing with her every prance, that on the way home a dog-walker ran up to me and gushed, "what a gorgeous Portuguese Water Dog! She's obviously a show dog." This morning, when I chaperoned Tallulah on her "promenade through the park", I felt like I should have dressed up, with a top hat--and maybe a monocle--but definitely a walking stick with a huge gem on its handle.' Who needs that? It's a hassle and I hold Camille completely responsible for sculpting Tallulah into this attention-demanding diva. Her new stans would be mortified to discover Tallulah's nothing but a dolled-up bernedoodle with heady airs and a shiny coat. All that aside, Camille is a talented groomer who always makes Tallulah look and smell wonderful. I would recommend her to anyone, although not to everyone because it's already hard enough to get an appointment with her.

I explained that he is used to having a human around when he's with other dogs and not used to being left alone with dogs so that's likely why he's anxious and wants to be around a human. He is also active and needs stimulation and exercise - they take the dogs for a short 15 minute walk and play at a nearby dog park but then return and leave the dogs in a room which I believe is often unattended, After purchasing a package, she told me that I need to bring him daily to get him accustomed which I understand, but I explained to her that is not in my budget or need. She insinuated that she didn't want to take him again. She didn't offer me a refund or compensation for my package and I found the way she spoke to me was unprofessional and uncourteous. In my opinion, this wasn't much of a daycare, just a place to leave your dog for the day with minimal engagement. I used to take my dog to BFF and they were much more engaging and pleasant.

We drop her off in the morning on our way to work and pick her up on our way home.

I've taken Minnie for grooming at Spaw since she was a puppy, she's now a few months shy of 7 years…read moreold. The last time I came in 2018, she came home with irritated private parts because they either used something harsh or they clipped too close to the skin. They offered to give her a plastic cone so she could heal, but it was still an unpleasant experience, so for the most of 2019 I took her to different groomers by my work in Markham. Before the holidays I was on vacation and forgot to book her in for a groom so I came here because I got a last minute appointment. I asked SPECIFICALLY to keep her face round (Asian style) with a pom pom tail. To my surprise, when I picked her up, her face was triangle shaped, head flat and uneven and tail raggedy. They've also raised their prices by quite a bit the past couple years. My cuts used to be about $80 and now they are well over $100 and this is for a small 6 lb. toy poodle. After I voiced my concerns, I got a call saying the person who did the groom was the OWNER of the business. She also hinted at the fact that some dogs are more difficult... hard to believe since my dog was specifically called a "sweetheart" the day I picked her up. Their remedy is that I bring her back to "touch it up". But she has little hair left to work with at the top. If you love your babies, you wouldn't take them here.There's plenty of other reputable groomers who give great cuts and charge less. I regret hastily making the decision to come back after the first incident, but lesson learned.

Cleanliness of centre: 5* Parking of plaza: 5* Receptionist(many): 5* all very friendly and caring, all also young which is interesting Receptionist Cat Kenzie: 5*, she is so cute and fat from me giving her too many treats Communication: 4*, they will call and prefer to speak directly to you. So unless requested, they do not email results. But ask them anything and they will double check for you. Medical opinion: tbd I like Dr Susan in the sense she gets large dogs as she is a german shepherd owner herself. Most medical professionals lack or are not the best at bedside manners, as they lean more to the evidence based information side...that's why the friendly assistants/receptionist make up that end. She's thorough in interview intake, physical assessment and suggestions of objective testing ie)blood work or xray, but helps inform why you really need it now or what can wait. Her job is to communicate what she thinks is happening to her furry patient and makes sure the owner understands. Unfortunately most owners, myself included, see the costs of understanding first and get distracted quickly after. I do find she is not pushy but knowledgeable and passionate. Our previous vet retired early and was not as up to date as Dr Susan is on pain meds. She is able to examine her blood work and tell me why the red flags seen on the test are red herrings, and may mean something else the other vet missed. We tried a new med that my dog hated and she was ok to adjust another one to compensate. Senior dog health is the most complicated and expensive phase of the animal's life. This is where you need a knowledgeable professional that you can feel comfortable to work with. My dog is 12 years old but even in her lifetime the suggestions on dog tramadol and ssri have changed, which my previous vet missed and Dr Susan knew well. I won't say she is a good fit for every pet owner but she sure knows her facts and enjoys continuing learning in her medical field. This should be a really important consideration.

To keep it short, there's 3 problems…read more 1. She's quite rude to her staff. I know her staff aren't the brightest but she's disrespectfully rude to them. 2. 2 and 3 are related. Perhaps she's been better 10 years ago, but now, she's very driven by money. She will try to sell you hard on stuff you don't need, or processes. In the process, she'll try to sell you things in good or bad ways, like scaring you, threatening you or guilt you into buying into doing extra. She might even do "extra" for you because that's what "most" people do or that's how it's usually done. 3. She's not that good (anymore). Related to above, how can anyone prioritize the health of your pet if they prioritize money first? Let's say your pet has _____ disease and it's pretty urgent. But she needs to prioritize money first, so she'll ask you to do many tests, and that may waste valuable time. Or if a medication she prescribed has certain side effects, when you report back to her how your pet feels and experiences some of those side effects, she'll tell you "I don't like it". Your pet shouldn't be like that. If you tell her that could be the side effects, she will be like you don't know that until we test it. Anyways, I've heard other vets are super greedy as well. But this is another one, I'll suggest a pass just to save on some $$. If you don't mind, I would still suggest you not to. It's encouraging bad behaviour.
