I'm a fool and must make up for lost time. The interior isn't exactly aesthetically pleasing - it's pretty run down with dingy and outdated floors, walls, and shelves. Unattractive fluorescent lighting and items sort of piled about. But everything seemed ultra-clean and the store is easy to navigate, which is what counts. The variety and quality of products here is stellar. When do you ever see whole raw garbanzo beans? Where can you find the biggest bags of basmati rice known to all humankind (and multiple brands at that)? So much produce, every kind of flour you can think of, herbs (curry leaves!), and an incredible array of whole/dried and powdered spices. Soooo many types of salt and pepper, curry, masala, chutneys, incense & candles, yogurt, fresh baked goods, SO MUCH GHEE, a large selection of frozen foods, candies, and a ton of pre-packaged cookies, breads, and cakes. I was the only person in the store at 4 PM on a Wednesday, but the staff was nice and I was able to get in and out quickly despite my lengthy browsing.

You can get a HUGE bag of spices for a fraction of the price that you would pay for a little bottle at a regular grocery store. The staff are very straight to the point. Some might consider border line rude but I think it's just the culture difference not rudeness. They are usually pretty busy and just don't have time for pleasantries. That said, I feel like this place really deserves a fair and balanced review because it's definitely a hit or miss. Over the years, I've learned you have to be very careful when shopping here. The quality didn't help either, the taste and texture were clearly off. Even with staples like lentils, it's worth double checking before buying. One experience that really stood out was when my dad bought cinnamon sticks from here. He was convinced they were fake because they literally tasted like plain wood...no aroma, no flavor, nothing. He was so frustrated that we actually went back to return them, even though we didn't end up getting a refund. Another ongoing issue is pricing at checkout. I've noticed multiple times that I've been overcharged, never less, always more. Sometimes I've been charged multiple times for a single item. When I've gone back to point it out, the response is usually just a quick apology, and nothing is really done to fix it. Because of this, I've started checking my receipt before I even leave the store. That said, I do want to highlight something positive. Recently, they opened a pani puri stand, and it was genuinely impressive. It tasted just like authentic street-style pani puri, fresh, flavorful, and really satisfying. First you can find mushrooms that aren't available at a typical grocery store. At Whole Foods for example, you can occasionally get oyster mushrooms at around $14-$17 per pound. At Ben, $6.99/pound. King mushrooms, you might be able to find some at Whole Foods that are the length of you thumb for $15 per pound. I bough them at Ben today for $2.49/pound and they were as big around as my wrist and as long as a beer bottle. I can alway find fresh seasonal fruit and veg at half the price of Kroger and Whole Foods. When you're finding regular grocery stores are low on rice and noodles, Ben had pallets of all kinds of rice and aisles full of noodles. Oh and the prices are so much less. There isn't an Asian sauce or seasoning that you won't be able to find here. I don't buy meat, seafood or eggs however I did notice they were plentiful and the prices were well below Kroger and even Target. I've never had an issue with customer service.
