Probably not employed where I am. Yes, some of the classes were less than riveting (accounting and finance just aren't my favorites), yes, the group projects were a major pain in the butt to coordinate and carry out on top of readings, classes and extracurricular activities like having a life, and yes, Emory is not a cheap way to get your education. However, without the resume critiques, class speakers and professors with real world experience and connections, presentations where we had to look "business professional," and numerous gatherings set up to network and add impressive sounding clubs and titles to your resume, I don't think I'd be where I am today. I actually learned a lot during my two years here that I feel prepared me to go out and find a job in corporate America and make a living. As opposed to being a classics major with a minor in basket weaving, and moving back home after graduation to live in my parent's basement. And I did enjoy a good number of the classes (mostly the marketing ones), and I had my best semester of college while I was here. It was my spring semester of junior year and I managed to snag myself a coveted spot to go on exchange to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Without a doubt, the scariest decision I ever made, and the best time I had all through college. And if I hadn't gone to the business school, such an opportunity would not have been available to me. During that 4.5 months in Asia, I developed a love for a city outside the US, traveled to places and had experiences I'll never be able to recreate and met some of the most amazing people I've had the good fortune to encounter. I swear, by the end of the semester, I was ready to quit school, learn Cantonese and try to get a job living and working in Hong Kong. It was that good. It changed me forever for the better, and I'll be grateful for that opportunity for the rest of my life. Agreed, there are many things wrong with higher education (most notably the heinous prices they put on the more prestigious and private institutions), but I have to say that the skills I learned and the polish I acquired at Emory's Goizueta Business School were, in my opinion, invaluable.

This semester is the first that it has been open continuously from 8 am to 7 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8 am to 5 pm on Fridays, and they just purchased a new, larger refrigerator, which means there are even more 50 cent sodas available. They've also increased the number of snacks they sell dramatically, adding more candy, chips, gum, and other bagged snack options (ranging from 50 cents to $1) as well as a freezer case full of microwavable food. You can even purchase Muscle Milk or Emory Law gear as well. Come with cash and have it ready at hand so that you don't hold up the line!

Two years ago, I enrolled my two son's through the recommendation of my son's teacher when we were in Florida. Since then, I have seen the long term positive impact from Kumon's teaching method over the last 2 years. It has made me a firm believer in their teaching method. When we moved to Georgia, I wanted my kids to continue with Kumon. The location in Sugar Hill was the closest to me. I found out this was a new center and was not sure what to make of it. I was not sure if it would be better than the one we were attending in Tampa. After three months at this location, I am completely blown away by the wonderful service provided by the instructor, Mrs. Cherry. Mrs. Cherry updates me frequently on their progress, but I can see for myself their academics has accelerated since coming here. She has a passion for education and knows how to interact with kids. My kids enjoy coming here, and I get to knock out my grocery shopping at the Publix next door while they are in class. Win Win! Their price is very competitive. I've spoken to some neighbors who were unsatisfied at another company. I ask how much they pay. I said no no no! You need to send them to Mrs. Cherry. You'll pay less and get better results. So now they are enrolled too :) This new center certainly is a great benefit to the community. My advice to everyone is - go to the kumon.com website and read up on their method, individualized lesson planning and self learning concept. Make an appointment to talk to Mrs. Cherry and bring your kids in for a placement test (it's free). Then go from there!

I originally stopped by in search of pottery classes--and was delighted to find not only that they offer them, but also that a new session begins on October 13th. In addition, there's a Fall Break Art Camp for grades 2-5, where children will experiment with a range of media including watercolor, acrylics, and collage. As I walked through the space, I was able to watch artists at work and enjoy the current gallery exhibits on display. The atmosphere was inspiring and welcoming. Adult fall classes--running October 6th through December 13th--are also available, covering both visual and ceramic arts. Each class is taught by individual instructors, making it approachable for students of all levels. Best of all, online registration makes it simple to sign up. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that such a wonderful resource has been right in my neighborhood all along. It was a great experience, and I've already registered for pottery classes--something I'm really excited about!
