I knew I would have to travel a fair distance to view/test drive this car, so I phoned first and spoke to Peter. I was assured of the condition, and general details of the car to such an extent, that I instantly felt very confident, and felt I was genuinely dealing with a very honest and trustworthy company. I had to phone back a few times over the next few days to arrange when I would be able to come, and also to arrange insurance and road tax. This was when I first spoke to Raymond, and I have to say, again I came off the phone, satisfied and confident that the car would be everything I was told it would be. I phoned yet again, a day before I left to confirm everything was ok, and also to get directions from the main Train Station in Edinburgh. I was instantly told by Raymond, to phone him when I got to the station and he would come and pick me up. This, I thought was an extremely kind gesture, considering the garage is a good 3 miles from Edinburgh city centre. When I arrived at the garage, I found the car to be exactly as advertised, and exactly as described by both Raymond and Peter. We took it out for a good test drive, and along the way had a good chat and laugh with Raymond. Once we arrived back at the garage, I was smitten and didn't need any further convincing. At this point I met Peter and found him to be as friendly and welcoming as Raymond. Along with an already very good price for a very good car, PHJ also covered the cost of my first year's road tax, along with a £25 top up of fuel. Something I certainly didn't expect! All in all a very pleasant experience, and would highly recommend both the high standard of cars, and also the high standard of customer care that I received. I have already recommended them to friends and family, and would certainly remember them again in the future.

From start to finish I cannot praise them highly enough, there was no hard sell just honest opinions and advice. They had exactly what I was looking for and went above and beyond in their customer service with follow up calls to make sure I was happy with my purchase, all very reassuring. I purchased a Gold GT TDi, which he had advertised as " A Clean Example" and a Clean Example it is - I cannot fault the car, my Girlfriend and I are both very pleased and satisfied with the car AND the service that we received. I would highly recommend George Mackay Cars to anyone that is looking for a car and I know for sure that we will be back in the future.

An unassuming car dealership with top of the line service…read more We had been looking for a new car for a while and in the process went to several different dealerships. We met a lot of stereotypical car salesmen who tried to push us into dodgy sales. When we visited Cowgate it was immediately different - the salesman who helped us was honest and straightforward, as well as being very friendly. We were immediately happy with the car and experience. Fast forward about a week after picking up the car and we discovered that one of the keys was corroded. Having been quoted about £200 from a Volkswagon garage, we contacted Cowgate. They asked us to post the key to them and had it fixed and returned within 48 hours, for free. We both agreed that Cowgate definitely exceeded service expectations!

The sales tactics (I don't want to call it customer service) is all passive aggressive jokey…read morebanter. Like going back a few decades to the 1980's and the way kitchen salesmen used to act. A hard sale, where they don't listen to you, don't think you've got even half a brain and just bounce off each other double teaming you whilst screwing their faces up at you as if you're daft. That's this place in a nut shell. Genuinely thought this kind of thinking had moved with the times, but the staff in here are all in their 50's/60's. and I can only assume they've listened to their own sales patter for so long now that they have become completely void of any self-awareness. If there's not enough money in it for them they'd rather you just walked out the door. They're just not capable of thinking rationally. I was made to feel worthless. I left, and went elsewhere.

Very disappointed in the service when my Jeep went in for an MOT…read more Apparently passed the MOT ok but cost in total was over £1400.00! Only to replace glo plug an headlight bulb. To add insult to injury, I was told cost per hour was £90 but was billed £95 per hour. When it was queried the person on the desk shrugged his shoulders and was totally disinterested!! No complaints about the sales person. P. S. the glo plug was broken during the process but no liability was accepted by staff.

Bought an older Honda Jazz from them that was priced great, the experience of picking out a car…read morewith Cooper was brilliant. He gives you plenty of space to check out the cars, is very knowledgable about his vehicles and was helpful in deciding petrol vs diesel for us. All in all, great dealership, good prices, I couldn't recommend them enough. When I need to get another car I'll be coming back here!

The car was rejected by me as not as described and, to get my money returned, I had to make numerous phone calls and send 9 emails which were ignored. With the help of the Scottish Court Service, Dunfermline, case number SA102/15 the DODGY DEALER paid the money direct into my account on 10 April 2015. I suggest that you do not pass any money to this dealer until you are 100% satisfied that you will get what you expect from them.
