The Large Sanctuary venue is only one of the venues and is the least revealing of the heart of the matter. The most important venues for church revelation are the classes offered, the small groups that meet regularly for "real church" where needs can be met, specific prayer can happen, Sharings can be shared, etc. Also, what is the emphasis for outside the Building; i.e. outreach, local, and global? When evaluating anyone or anything, we see through a glass darkly and only when I am face to face with the Reality of a Church will I make a fair and more accurate evaluation. These points are what bring The Reality, the truth of the matter ?:(a.) Biblical Worldview? (b.) the People interaction with you and others c. Do I have something to give, not just take in this church setting (d). is this church a giving to others body of Believers? Remember the old saying " can you tell a book by just looking at the cover" ?

When St. Michael was built in 1891 it was the tallest building in Cleveland. The building was not black when built, but turned black from the factories, but I think the church looks beautiful. I am proud to be a Clevelander from the rust belt. St. Michael represents Cleveland. It was built for European immigrants in the 1890s, turned black from the factories, and over 100 years latter is going STRONG for a new generation of immigrants from Spanish speaking countries. This sanctuary is beautiful and magnificent! We had no idea how in awe we would be by just walking in. We spent about 30 minutes and we each put a donation in the box. As second-time visitors, we were incredibly shocked to hear the pastor, from the "pulpit," literally chide and shame the congregants who were not wearing face masks, calling them words like 'immature' and 'childish.' It is certainly no one's business why someone else without a face mask on is that way-- their medical condition, religion, whatever-- so to have a pastor treat people that way was very sad. These examples clearly aren't the type of leadership and church atmosphere the Bible calls for!

While there were a number of people in the pews, not too many were singing either the hymns or the Liturgy, using the old 'green book' from the 1980's. Choir and organist were serviceable, but had a blip during their anthem- those things happen. But the pastor's sermon? Oh, Lord. The lectionary selection for that day was the Ten Lepers cured by Christ. Referencing leprosy as nothing more tedious than dandruff (huh?) and continually self-deprecation on the part of the celebrant (which got old, fast), led us to the conclusion of this 'sermon' - which was nothing less a blatantly universalist 'everyone is saved, everyone is cured, everyone - regardless of their holy books or how they worship God (meaning Jews, Moslems, etc.) is part of the kingdom' sermon- in short, rank heresy, whether one is a Catholic, Episcopalian, but especially if one purports to be a Confessional Lutheran! The only saving grace was that he didn't include gays, transgenders, or lesbians in that 'salvation' message- but then, he really couldn't, as the Epistle was one by St. Paul wherein he clearly says that the 'immoral, idolators, etc' will not inherit the kingdom of heaven.' After that sermon, I don't think the Pastor will, either. "This is most certainly true."

The teachers are absolutely wonderful with all of the children. They're the type of people who belong with this age group. My kids are learning more than their letters and numbers while at school.
