Most of the reviews are from years ago and the place is under new ownership and management so please disregard all those. If you are a person who wants a place to do more advanced practice in any shooting sports discipline this is the place to go. They have several rifle ranges from 50-1000 yards. They have a skeet and trap range and a 5 stand coming soon. They have pistol bays for individual and small group practice. A full membership gets you all of this and is a great value. No where else in the area offer this variety at such a great price and I go 1-2 times a week. The employees and RSOs are super friendly and helpful as well. If you want a place to go beyond standing on a line and static shooting this is the best around. They also have some competitions but another nearby range has a lot more especially in pistol disciplines. I would love to see some M1 Garand and military rifle competitions here. Didn't get a chance to actually see the range, but when I called for directions as my onstar was a little off. I was told they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Not what the web site states. I actually drove out to see it. read more

This is the best range in the area. Robert L. is a clown. You *CAN* shoot 50 BMG, just not at steel plates (DUH!). The 1000 yard range does have a road across it, which is why they ONLY open it when they close the ranges behind it and block the road so you can't drive across it. I just went here for the first time yesterday and was VERY impressed. WORLD CLASS facilities and no attitude. The woman at the front desk was the wife of one of the founders. She was very sweet and helpful to everyone (lots of people came up for the "Winter Blast Weekend") and the RSOs were similar. Very friendly and helpful and no attitude at all. Everyone there loved shooting, talking shop, and knew their stuff cold. Their public use range is fully sponsored by NRA and Colt (as in they helped build it and their logo is on the sign) "Colt Independence" range. If you decide to go the membership route they have great ammo prices, take ammo orders, and offer several awesome classes and discounts for them. They have long range marksmanship classes and some of the best sport-shooting facilities anywhere...hanging steel, dualing trees etc. If you've never been you have to watch a video with their waiver. It feels a little tedious but there is enough misinformation out there about guns so I'm glad they make sure their patrons are educated in the basics. Some of their shooters are celebrity competition shooters including several champions and people from Top shot. Neat! Its about a 2 hour drive from DC. If you're planning to stop for food on the way, I recommend getting off I-81N @ Winchester. There weren't many places near the range that I saw besides maybe Mcdonalds (they're everywhere! lol). my first there was pretty good. This time not so good was even cursed at by the so called range officer!

I like this place and the staff it's well worth the $150 a yr membership. However I live in Frederick md. So it's a 70 mile drive each way. This is my first yr there and the only reason I joined was for the 1000 yd patriot range. They are the only long range practice in the tri state area!!! Their website is very misleading. I guess in 2016 the range was open more often. Now in 2017 it seems the 1000 yd range is only open on wed!! Seriously!!! It is open one day a week and a day when most people will need to take off work to go shoot. Just my luck that it seems when I can get off on wed to go they DECIDE to close the 1000 yd patriot range to cater to some other group or NRA class or competition. So yes!!! Let's just close the 1000 yd range whenever we feel like it even though it's open 1 day a week!!! And open the pistol ranges. Ok. My advice to cole is concentrate on what sets your facility apart from EVERYONE else. Pistol ranges and 50-100 yd ranges are everywhere and plain ole boring!!! Market your long range game you are the only one around. Open your 500 and 1000 yd ranges 3 times a week plus. Build another stupid 10yd pistol range anywhere else you want. You have the space!!! Double your capacity at the patriot. I would pay $400 a yr for a membership if it was worth it. However I very seriously doubt I will be joining this place again. Not even for $150 they need to step up and change their game. And stop letting NRA come in and take over the whole place and put out the regular members for weeks at a time. Normal folks cannot afford $1600 to take an NRA class. Where is my compensation for being locked out of my gun range I'm a paying member of? Overall it's a good range I'm not trying to be negative just making my point. They need to expand to cater to the guys who shoot the $5k-$10k rifles with more options such as 1000, 1500,2000 yards that's where your real $$ is. Build a few new ranges n charge 300-400$ more on top of your $150 yr membership for the special pass to use it. I would pay it and so would a lot of other guys I know. read more
