a peach ice cream shop
Tony H.

Super busy ice cream spot in downtown Penticton during summer. The ice cream itself was not good, super sweet and tasted worse than McDonald ice cream to be honest. However, this is a fun spot to get ice cream in the summer as it's located right next to the beach. And there are no other ice cream places around. They have some crazy looking ice cream and milkshakes but I opted out.

S'mores crazy shake $11

Got the s'more crazy shake ($11). First off, it is crazy expensive, but you do get a LARGE portion, along with whatever cake-like treat on top and you get to keep the plastic cup as a souvenir! The s'more one was really tasty and I really enjoyed the marshmallow part (and I'm not one to care for marshmallows). It can get messy, so make sure you're prepared.

Pleasantly surprised that there is a ton of real fresh peach pieces mixed into the ice cream!

Terrible, they wouldn't take cash so my kids couldn't buy their ice cream. They took their business elsewhere.

Coming from Alberta, I always have liked the few flavors of syrup of Summerland Sweets I could find…read moreat a grocery store, but this place is like the ultimate jam and syrup destination! There are so many more flavors than just raspberry and blueberry, and more jams than I could count. When we visited we were stunned for a moment when we walked in, and we shopped for a long time. Along with all the fruit-flavored goodies there are so may cute home items and decor to look at, as well as ice cream (there was a busy line for this while we were shopping). Summerland Sweets is in the middle of a number of wineries and made for a great break from wine tasting (including wonderful clean public washrooms). This is now a mandatory stop when we visit the Summerland area, and my only regret is not going home with one of the 4L jugs of syrup!

We toured the area this time and bumped into Summerland sweets. What a great find! We walked in and found shelves and shelves of jam, fruit candies, pottery, fruit wines, and an ice cream counter in the back. Our group of 10 all stopped for an ice cream and we were so glad we did! They offer two types of cones and a bunch of different flavors of ice cream. The standard scoop is HUGE. The ice cream prices are very cheap (see photo) and the scoops are generous. The girls working the counter are very friendly and were super nice with our 4 seniors (all over age 85) who were trying to decide what to get. The cherry ice cream was a huge hit! There is also a wine tasting room where they serve fruit wines. The colors are beautiful and the wine tasting is free. We ended up with some fruit flavored candy for my husband to bring back to work (in Houston). We don't do a lot of touristy type things when we go to the Okanagan, so this was a wonderful place to stop, close to where we were staying. I highly recommend Summerland Sweets for a quick stop for ice cream, wine tasting, and gift shopping. If you love maple syrup or fruit syrup they sell that too!

As mentioned, we stopped specifically to get the restaurant's famous custardy ice cream, which can be ordered in either a cup or cone. While the list of options is limited (9 flavors), we were very happy with our choices of Silk Salted Caramel (husband) and Blonde Mint Chip. Some of the flavors would appeal to kids -- such as Bubble Gum or Cotton Candy. Single scoops were $5.95/double $7.95 (June, 2022). Milk shakes were also available for $8.95. The restaurant also offers burgers, chicken strips, hot dogs, a kids menu, coffee, beer, and cocktails. Ambiance. I believe that all seating is outdoors. The "patio" is a large wooden deck, with only Lakeshore Drive separating you from the lake. The tables are shaded by large umbrellas, and music is piped in from speakers around the deck. Orders are taken at a window, and pick up is at an adjacent window. The environment is beautiful, with the lake view and warm breezes (in June!). The only distraction was the music, in that it was being played a bit too loudly. The restaurant is adjacent to Lackawanna Park, with greenery and pretty plants and has clean rest rooms. Value. Prices were expensive, especially if you're feeding a family. But, that said, the restaurant is in a "prime real estate" area, and is open only seasonally. Lakeshore & Powell st.
