I went for a total of 3 sessions, had no true expectations but open-minded going in. In the 1st session, I would say 80-85% of the time Kate was doing the talking. Not saying it was not important info or intentional, but thought the client would have done most talking. After each session, she emailed me an MP3 to listen for better quality sleep. Honestly, it worked so I was ok with that result. In the last session, I remember we were talking about something and I had I asked for more clarity on what she meant and to me was a snarky/annoyed attitude that she came back with. I noticed this snarky attitude several times from the first time we spoke. Never in a disrespectful way, but enough to me where it was very surprising and not reassuring at all coming from a professional therapist/counselor. Some final thoughts- I was never hypnotized, she gave me the option but felt persuaded to listen to the mp3 only. I was ok with that and would say that worked so overall no issue here. I have not received one call/email asking about how I have been. Our last session was in Feb/March 2020. For any trauma victim you say the same things over on repeat and typically are pretty distrustful. I didn't find him to be an active listener just surveyed my body language. For me I knew within 10 mins of working with he wasn't going to be able to help me. But his enthusiasm, energy, and commitment to helping me was why I stayed and participated in the session. He is true to his word if you didn't have a successful session there is no payment but I felt so guilty for his dedication that I made the decision to pay for the session. I am going to give you a play by play of exactly what occurred at Miami Hypnosis Center. I sought out help because I was going through a period of very terrible panic attacks. I couldn't even drive without disabling anxiety. I had to call family and friends while crossing the Miami Beach bridge because I felt that I was deprived of oxygen. I started feeling particularly anxious after I read a book called "The Primal Wound," which discusses the implications of adoption on the infant brain. I stand by the fact that this book likely resurfaced feelings of trauma and fear from being separated from my birth mother at an early age. However, I wasn't told about my adoption until I was 18, which I'm sure only infused additional trauma, as it was told to me in a family fight. I have written a book about my own experience. The title is "Why Aren't You Like Me, The Brochure Said You Would Be." I am currently pursuing a doctorate in counseling and would like to work in the school system. What I do know, given my credentials is the following: a) People in minority groups need to be believed regarding their experiences with racism, sexism, etc. This includes adopted people. Adopted people need to have their voices heard b) Anyone in a professional setting that involves counseling needs to have compassion c) There is A LOT of corruption in the adoption industry. I can provide you with a plethora of links and resources that prove this as true. There is a lot of coercion and blackmailing involved in mothers signing away their rights. The reason is because there are about 42 parents on a waitlist for every newborn child at risk of being relinquished. The only adoptions that cost money are for newborn infants. Agencies do not accept children over 1 year old (which is why my sister and I were not adopted together). Whoever doesn't recognize that there is corruption is the adoption industry is blind and cannot help people With that being said, I will proceed to tell you what happened with my experience with Gina Goodwin last summer. During our session, I explained to her that I believed my panic attacks were stemming from infant trauma and tried to show her the book that I was reading at the time. I was explaining that the book discussed how infant trauma is stored in our brains, but not coded with visual and auditory stimuli, making it difficult to identify triggers. She looked at me, put a face of disgust, and put the palm of her hand towards me, telling me: "I don't need to see that." I then explained that losing my cousin a few years ago was also a very traumatic experience. He passed from an aggressive cancer and essentially, the surgery that we had been promised could save his life, ended up killing him. My cousin and I were very close. We were raised more as siblings and we loved each other very much. He was 19 when he passed away. I was 20 years old. Life was only beginning to blossom for me when these two experiences happened that would change my life forever. So, you can imagine my surprise, when her reaction to my tragic story was: "Why were you so hurt over just your cousin?" I briefly spoke to her about the corruption that is occurring in the adoption industry and how I feel that this corruption is only infusing more trauma on people involved with adoption. Her response: "I'm pretty sure that's illegal." The corruption that is happening IS legal. But then again, so was slavery. Things that ARE illegal are happening every day: murder, kidnapping, human trafficking. Since when is the law a deterrent or an invitation for the criminal mind? Either Ms. Goodwin has no people skills or she and I simply had no chemistry. Nevertheless, her attitude was unprofessional and unnecessary. I would never place myself in such a vulnerable position at the hands of such a wicked person who fails to validate the pain and suffering of an individual. With a bright smile (for the first time in the session), she made a grandiose claim that she could solve all of my problems for about $2000. No, thank you. I'm grateful I ended up moving and wasn't baited into this thievery of a "counseling method." There is no way that such unprofessional service can be deemed credible.

When I started to write something (I won't call it a review) for Josefa, I wasn't ready. I wanted what I wrote to mean something and to reflect how I feel about the affect she's had on my life. So, I'll take a shot now, but I'm still not sure I can do her justice. Josefa is a truly gifted person. She not only had an almost immediate understanding of the person I was, but also a tremendous insight into 'why I was' and how I could be the person I wanted to be. It's interesting because I had visited a counselor on and off over many years, whom I thought was good. However, in just two coaching sessions with Josefa, I discovered things about myself that I had neither thought of nor discussed, previously. Over the course of working with Josefa for a few months, she helped me to better understand myself, which led to quite a change in the way I feel about myself and how I interact with the world around me. From session to session, she always was on top of what we had previously discussed and was familiar with issues that were currently affecting my life. And, she was always on point with suggestions on how to best handle situations. Furthermore, the suggestions were ones that I could carry forward with me to future issues. Does everything work out for me now exactly like I want it to... of course not. But, I can certainly handle things much better now than I previously could. It may sound like I was a basket-case prior to working with Josefa. I don't think that's the 'case', but I certainly had issues. I imagine I still do. But, now I have much more of an inner calm about myself and confidence in myself that I never had previously. Thank you, Josefa. You have made a tremendous difference in my life.
