When I started to write something (I won't call it a review) for Josefa, I wasn't ready. I wanted what I wrote to mean something and to reflect how I feel about the affect she's had on my life. So, I'll take a shot now, but I'm still not sure I can do her justice. Josefa is a truly gifted person. She not only had an almost immediate understanding of the person I was, but also a tremendous insight into 'why I was' and how I could be the person I wanted to be. It's interesting because I had visited a counselor on and off over many years, whom I thought was good. However, in just two coaching sessions with Josefa, I discovered things about myself that I had neither thought of nor discussed, previously. Over the course of working with Josefa for a few months, she helped me to better understand myself, which led to quite a change in the way I feel about myself and how I interact with the world around me. From session to session, she always was on top of what we had previously discussed and was familiar with issues that were currently affecting my life. And, she was always on point with suggestions on how to best handle situations. Furthermore, the suggestions were ones that I could carry forward with me to future issues. She was open and honest with her availability and timeline to onboard a new patient and was willing to work in person or remote. I'm glad we went for in person because I wasn't as sold on EMDR therapy as I should have been. It is like unclogging negative thoughts from your brain and giving yourself some real relief from beating yourself up over the moments you fell-short in, and grew-up from. I came into the practice needing a lot of immediate help in quieting my demons of self doubt and then worked through past trauma with Molly to revisit, reframe, and ultimately exorcize those demons from my mind. She is familiar with the theory and practice of Cognitive Behavioral Theory which provided me with nearly immediate relief (hinging, of-course, on my willingness to engage openly with myself and with Molly in the practice). Molly opens by naming what has gone well since our last visit and is good at framing and helping me see my mental and emotional growth over time. (I sometimes forget how hard things were and how far I've come) I feel capable of handling a garbage truck worth of muck coming my way now. Jane doesn't just help our daughter, she has given me countless tools as well. I finally feel like I'm actually equipped to be a parent for the first time in 10 years. I also picked up her book Raising Humane Beings and I couldn't put it down. I read the whole thing in 2 days and had so many "ah-ha" moments. The way I parent has basically done a complete 180 since meeting Jane and our family feels so much more calm and connected now. Jane was born to do this work. I've even decided to start going to her myself for non-parenting counseling as well. If you want actual results from counseling, look no further. Jane is the real deal. Edit: After reading through some of the other reviews I feel the need to add that some of the tools Jane offers may not be considered "conventional"... and that's a GOOD THING. That's why her tools actually work. Don't expect the same old song and dance you're going to get from any counselor you go to. If you go into therapy with an open mind and a willingness to do the work, you will see results immediately. An example for me was her "talking stick" exercise. I thought to myself "there's no freaking way out family is going to sit down and do talking stick"... and after Jane had my daughter and I practice it in a session, it's our new favorite thing! It instantly made me feel so much more connected to my daughter and helped her feel heard and validated. But again, having an open mind and being willing to try something different is key. You have to actually want your situation to change, otherwise no counselor or amount of therapy will work. Seems like the only negative reviews were from people that either never actually had a session with her, or went in and didn't try the tools she recommended, which says less about Jane and more about the reviewer IMO.
