It feels more like a hospital for the hurting and a place to find your way back to Jesus. The worship was led by the PAW band, and they opened the service beautifully. Pastor Tyler Staton delivered a heartfelt, impactful message, and the service ended with an invitation for anyone who needed prayer or felt led by the Holy Spirit. It was sincere and spirit-filled. They've thought about every detail for comfort and community. There's a cozy mother's/nursing lounge, free coffee, and even a small bookstore. The people are friendly and genuinely welcoming. I also loved that they bless the children before they head to the Sunday School--it's a meaningful touch. You can really sense the Holy Spirit here. Her talk centered around how loneliness was becoming so prevalent in our society and she came into her talk with all kinds of statistics. Well, she certainly nailed me it's one of the reasons I went to church that day. Instead of getting a message of hope from the Bible I got a lecture from Portland State University that was full of stats. Yep, she hit the nail on the head, I am one of those statistics. I did not even stay for the whole talk. Instead of being uplifted I got reminded of how lonely I was. I felt a bit humiliated as I walked out with tears coming down my face.

Those were the words that Josh the pastor said to us from ON STAGE in front of everyone during his sermon as my wife and I were trying to calm down our crying baby (go watch the livestream - it's recorded). Our daughter was crying for about 5-10 seconds and we were trying to figure out how to get out from the middle of our pew to take her outside, but Josh's comment was completely embarrassing and unacceptable. Jesus said "let the children come to me." Door of Hope said "your kids are too much". Very unfortunate.
