They are charging $1,894 (???) for that very short ride. I was in severe abdominal pain, and the ambulance didn't have any shock absorbers. It bumped down a road (that I frequently drive) the whole way, which added to my discomfort. This outrageous bill looks like a bill for a 6 minute helicopter ride, not an ambulance! But when 911 is called, are there other options? I will do everything within my power in the future not to go by ambulance. To top it off, Providence is refusing to cover my overnight stay, and I have to fight that, too. Health care in this country has me wishing I lived somewhere where the patient truly came first - not outrageous profit.

I've had several bad experiences at the Providence ER. The last time was especially bad. Instead of calling poison control, I was rushed to the ICU where nurses spent all their efforts into convincing me that I had tried to harm myself. During this, I had four seizures before they decided to call Poison control to receive treatment instructions. Four seizures could have been prevented if they had called poison control immediately. I bit my tongue several times and bled profusely. They told me that my tongue will heal quickly, and refused to also treat that wound. It has not healed in almost a month. I had to see my primary care provider elsewhere to receive help. I felt neglected, as if they didn't really care. They weren't trying to treat me, but shove me in their mental health unit, when I had not tried to hurt myself. Their judgement of my character and actions was unwarranted and their actions felt harsh and punitive in nature. Eventually they called poison control and administered medication that would have effectively prevented this whole ordeal. I will never go back. All of the other hospitals in Portland are far better options with far better care that doesn't lack compassion and judgement by a very near sighted and uncaring staff. I am trying to not take this personal, and ruminate, but it was traumatic and embarrassing, and has led me to seek help in dealing with it. They refuse to a acknowledge my legal authority to the point of relaying medical information regarding my son to the receptionist at the swithchboard. This is an abomination, especially since they have always honored my credentials before, and complied with the HIPPA. They crossed the line. No matter how good the hospital ratings are, we shouldn't tolerate criminal behavior or disregard of patient rights. I will get justice for their ignoring HIPPA, and I'm doing this for everyone, not just myself and my Son. Beware of Providence Medical Center, Portland Oregon.

Anyone who reads medical news knows that throughout the US, we have a shortage of doctors, nurses and other care providers. Many have retired due to PTSD from the pandemic and/or burnout from trying to compensate for a frayed system. Private medical practices are rare these days, and an internist in private practice is rarer still. I am deeply grateful to everyone who manages to keep this clinic up and running, providing some of the best care in the city despite enormous odds, both in personnel and finances. I much appreciate being able to get multiple services there, such as lab, x-ray and bone density studies. Thank you Broadway Medical, and everyone who has or will take care of me there. The frequency with which I'm having to review hospitals is not exactly ideal, but...here we go…read moreagain. My wife had a diabetes-related incident which required two days worth of hospitalization, so we were treated to a wide variety of Legacy Emanuel's departments, from intake at the ER, to the ICU, to the pharmacy and, of course, the much-maligned, dreaded hospital food (and rightfully so)! Our experience was a mixed bag, but mostly positive overall. Intake took longer than I feel is acceptable for, you know...the EMERGENCY room, but the quality of care, right out of the gate, was top notch: competent, friendly nurses and technicians (BIG shout-out to Michael in the CVICU for being stellar!), from start to finish. Consultation with full-fledged doctors was few and far between, but maybe that will help keep the costs down when the remainder of the bill comes back from insurance. The Children's Garden is a-freakin'-dorable. The food was one of the few things that was consistent...consistently terrible. As has always been the case with diabetes-related care, the advice my wife receives seems to vary, based on the person giving it, with some providers seeming more confident, and competent, than others...which is probably why we end up in situations like this. Without going into too many details, one endocrinologist recommended using an insulin pump, the other recommended manual injections via insulin pens, and both of them offered different suggestions on the amount of insulin to administer, based on carb count. It's incredible to me that this isn't yet a settled science. Another irritating thing I encountered was the main entrance to the atrium being blocked off for construction or renovations, meaning that to pick up a prescription, we had to enter through the Randall Children's Hospital entrance, and then navigate an absurdly long series of hallways to get there...only to find that our prescription wasn't filled on time, and that we'd have to come back and do it all over again later. Ugh. In short, we've had better care (OHSU), and worse care (PeaceHealth), but Legacy Emanuel does enough things right to straddle the gap, and exist in our minds as a wholly acceptable and comprehensive health care provider, even during times of crisis (and as an important side note: the adjacent Randall Children's Hospital is a five star facility, no bones about it). Just...hurry up with the ER intake procedure, will ya?

I have a ton of health issues and I literally couldn't be happier with this place. I've had surgeries, regular blood work, and countless chronic issues. Plus, my husband also became a Kaiser member a few years ago. He has also received excellent care, especially when he was diagnosed with cardiac problems and was sent to the Kaiser hospital for 10 days. He received excellent care and follow up. The best psychiatrist I ever had was Dr Rafael Gray (he's procedural now, at Clackamas) and Dr Heather Motonaga (she has been my doctor for 11-12 years! And I feel like she genuinely cares about me as a person and has helped me with countless issues! She always listens/remembers and seems genuinely concerned). I'm very happy to have this insurance. I also use the dental and vision coverage and have found both to be excellent.

Regarding a prior treatment at the Silverton, OR hospital, I ended up with a bill considerably less than $ 100. 2. Previously any of my earlier patient charges subsequently resulted in a bill mailed to me. Thereafter, it was soon paid in full. 3. However, pertinent to the most recent aforesaid charge, no bill have ever been posted to my mailing address on record. 4. Nonetheless, for a period now spanning many weeks, I've continued to receive texts and voicemail messages demanding payment. 5. During this same time span, and on FOUR separate occasions, I've written (2 letters and two emails) to the billing department's Portland, OR address. Each time stating unequivocally that the bill will be paid in full and promptly once I've received a mailed paper statement. 6. Yet, nary received a mailed bill, which I want for my tax records. 7. Nonetheless, the texts and voice mails, including today, persist unabated.
