Look, I know it's a stressful job and your employees likely become despondent to the human side of things, but these two trashy, unkept lowlifes don't deserve the privileges of being employed in such a crucial field. After making ageist comments about our father (he was a very young and active 80 year-old) and reminding us several times, as an excuse for why they weren't invested in continuing life-lengthening care, that he had been in and out of hospitals over a handful of months, the nephrologists and a cardiologist got together with a representative of the hospital's ethics committee and decided to allow him to die. Indeed, our father had been to hospitals several times. He was on a journey to discover why his legs were swollen. The doctors treated him with kidney-damaging diuretics (Lasix), which acutely (temporarily) damaged our father's kidneys, prednisone (which damaged his skin), and gave him a medication for destroying his immune system, as they incorrectly assumed he had an autoimmune issue without first confirming this diagnosis. Destroying your immune system apparently prevents it from attacking the body in an autoimmune issue, but it allows you to be more predisposed to getting infections or not fighting them. Our father did finally gain an accurate diagnosis: a very manageable form of leukemia that doesn't shorten life, if managed, which, after his correct leukemia diagnosis, he was doing. The side effects from the medications he was incorrectly prescribed during his hospital visits caused additional hospital visits, as the side effects were worse than the leukemia and leukemia treatment (which he was tolerating beautifully). While hospitalized for the side effects from the incorrect medications the hospitals gave him, he obtained infections such as RSV, C Diff, and a bladder infection. Due to my father's physical issues from the side effects of the medications, the doctors at Providence decided to not provide life-saving treatment and instead wanted to give him pain medication to lessen the effects of the death sentence they decided for him; otherwise known as "comfort care." We argued that dialysis could be an option as his biggest issue was fluid accumulation in his body. Providence's nephrologist said no, but when we asked for a second opinion, the second nephrologist said she would give him two weeks on dialysis only. We worried about this as it sounded like they would "pull the plug" after two weeks no matter how our father was doing. The dialysis was very effective. My father began recovering. His blood work revealed steady progress, which we were monitoring. He was chipper and not in any pain but also very worried, like we were, that the hospital would "pull the plug" on him as they had threatened by saying they would only give him two weeks of dialysis. We searched for how we could get him needed continued care after the two weeks and discovered that the state of Oregon shut down all long-term care facilities in the state. It would appear Oregon doesn't value the life of anyone who might need long-term care. The closest long-term care facility was in Seattle, Washington. We were ready to have our father moved to Seattle, Washington, if needed. While at Providence hospital, our father's kidneys showed signs of improvement, as he urinated with the appropriate color. On the last day of his two weeks allotted for dialysis, the hospital gave him a pill form of a medication that helped to stabilize his blood pressure so he could tolerate dialysis, which lowers your blood pressure while being treated, instead of the correct IV form of the same medication. The hospital admitted that the pill wasn't as effective or helpful as the IV version of the same medication, which our father was previously getting. Thus, on the last day of the two weeks of dialysis, his blood pressure dropped too low to safely continue. The nephrologist known as "Dr. K" let us know that she was going to let our father die. She refused to allow our father to again be on the IV medication that had worked for him which would allow him to continue dialysis. We argued with Dr. K on behalf of my father that if his blood pressure improved, would she allow our father to continue dialysis? She said if his blood pressure improved, she would okay it. We asked our father if he had seen a cardiologist while at Providence, and he said he hadn't. We got a cardiologist to review our father's chart, and she confirmed he could indeed continue on the IV form of the medication that effectively stabilized his blood pressure so he could continue dialysis. Even though our father's blood pressure was stabilized by the IV medication that was cleared by the cardiologist, Dr. K, would not allow him to continue the needed dialysis. According to the dialysis technicians, it takes a few weeks up to approximately three months for an acute kidney issue to heal. We were invested in giving our father that time. He always made a point of engaging directly with the kids, talking about their bodies and what he was checking, never talking to me over their heads. Never seemed to be in a hurry and really just lovely. Once my 5 year old walked out of the appointment and announced he wanted to be a doctor! I've seen Dr. Hrbek for maybe a dozen years? She squeezed me in Friday afternoon a few hours after I was in a car accident -- and helping me avoid long-lasting impacts. She's always prepared to discuss any issues I have at my regular check-ups, and the clinic has been great about getting me in for bone scans and lab tests on short notice. Very convenient. Nothing but good care from the office.

Many have retired due to PTSD from the pandemic and/or burnout from trying to compensate for a frayed system. Private medical practices are rare these days, and an internist in private practice is rarer still. I am deeply grateful to everyone who manages to keep this clinic up and running, providing some of the best care in the city despite enormous odds, both in personnel and finances. I much appreciate being able to get multiple services there, such as lab, x-ray and bone density studies. Thank you Broadway Medical, and everyone who has or will take care of me there. Everyone that worked with me was empathetic, communicative and professional. I felt like I was treated really well and all of my needs were being met all through the night, until my release around 3pm on Sunday. Shout out to the ER team and the nurse staff on the 3rd floor (Brianna, Matilda, and many others whose names I can't recall...) This place deserves more than 2.9 stars. NB- I haven't dealt with billing yet. If that's a nightmare, I'll update my review. For now, I'd say 5 stars easy.

Regarding a prior treatment at the Silverton, OR hospital, I ended up with a bill considerably less than $ 100. 2. Previously any of my earlier patient charges subsequently resulted in a bill mailed to me. Thereafter, it was soon paid in full. 3. However, pertinent to the most recent aforesaid charge, no bill have ever been posted to my mailing address on record. 4. Nonetheless, for a period now spanning many weeks, I've continued to receive texts and voicemail messages demanding payment. 5. During this same time span, and on FOUR separate occasions, I've written (2 letters and two emails) to the billing department's Portland, OR address. Each time stating unequivocally that the bill will be paid in full and promptly once I've received a mailed paper statement. 6. Yet, nary received a mailed bill, which I want for my tax records. 7. Nonetheless, the texts and voice mails, including today, persist unabated.

My best advice for all things OHSU is to get scheduled with Immediate Care if you can help it and…read moreyou are in any pain. They do same day appointments ONLY, so call them as soon as they open. You will find as early as 8:05 am, they will already be booked out to two or three, they are *that busy*. It isnt their fault they are overworked and understaffed, so please try to exercise kindness when you interact with these providers and their assistants. Chances are, if youre stuck waiting to see your PCP, the IC clinic can at least get you started on a referral. They are also awesome at reaching out on MyChart extremely quickly if your issue isnt something they have the facilities to work with, for example there isnt an ultrasound in the Immediate Care clinic so you won't have any luck scheduling for that with them. They are happy to redirect you where you need to go. If you have a negative experience with an operator i PROMISE the clinic wants to know about it, especially if you believe you were being treated unfairly due to being on medicaid or medicare given their strict nondiscrimination policy. But of course my experience is bound to not be universal. There have definitely been times with OHSU generally that i have been frustrated and felt unheard, but the crucial, massively important piece is that *i contacted them about it directly and they made it right!!!* every time! Ive never had a reason to leave a bad review after asking them for help fixing a problem i had. Most of the time miscommunication on their part and/or my own difficulty interpreting tone was to blame, but even when there was a more serious issue, i felt totally safe contacting OHSU to correct it. The one time i felt too insecure to talk to OHSU about it directly, i went through OHP and they completely took care of it on my behalf. They want to help and they want to be aware of those on their staff who don't want to help. I promise you. It isn't perfect. No teaching hospital will ever be perfect. 8/10 times with OHSU as a whole you will be given to a fresh faced resident. But they are almost always willing to own their mistakes and make it better (and their supervising doctors hold them accountable too). I have tried Adventist and I have tried St John, and OHSU is the first place where i dont feel like cattle. I come from a deep red state though and some people talk about this marvelous establishment like its an Oklahoma Urgent Care. Nobody here understands what a utopia this place is with a quality of care i never thought possible. Moving here was like moving to the twilight zone. This is the kind of health care you hear people talking about other, more privileged countries affording their patients. And for most of us ITS FREE. Completely free. Im from multiple minority demographics so i know this isnt some type of conventional privilege being afforded to me, either.
