Overpriced like everything else on the riverwalk but oddly entertaining. I've never actually been…read moreto a touristy CVS, so I can't really complain based on location and the amusement factor. Obviously there's no actual pharmacy here since it's on the river level with no access to street parking. It's not even your standard CVS. Sure, they have the basics like snacks, cosmetics, etc, but what tickled me were the ducky plushies in cowboy and beaver hats. There are also post cards and $20 phone chargers, one of which I needed since I accidentally left mine at the hotel. Would I come here to buy anything otherwise? Probably not, but it was certainly worth checking out. And the cashier was also very nice. She did ask if I have a phone number with CVS (I haven't for several years now. I wonder if they ever actually close those years old inactive accounts). She also allowed me to simply use the reusable bag from the Alamo we already had with us to save the trouble. Oh and an entire aisle dedicated to Texas and San Antonio. It was a fun time. Also, the shelves could probably stand to be wiped down more. Lots of dust. And what's this? No kitty cats to greet me? Now I'm sad. :( I'd come back just to see them, and they're good for keeping rodents away. So for the cat haters out there, bear in mind they're smarter than many give them credit for as they hunt mice and birds to keep the river walk free of infestations.

The younger lady with the red hair was rude. Customer service is definitely at an all-time low. A…read moresimple "Hello, good morning, how are you?" would have gone a long way. Instead, she just looked at me, I told her what I wanted, and that was it. If you're that tired or unhappy to be there, maybe call out. A little kindness and professionalism make a big difference.

I got my first real six-string, I bought it here. I'm Canadian, by the way…read more The man said it right. It's sad that not alot of Yelp users come to places like this and give them a review. Just the fancy restaurants and the tourist hotspots which don't really need a review where your review will get lost in a sea of 20,000 others. This place is super cute with a lot of great stuff and fun stuff and I've stopped in here on several occasions when coming to San Antonio, and I'm sure they will come back here on many occasions in the future. And they have the word five in their name so what rating did you think I was going to give them? This store is a dime.

I marvel at the fact that so many stores -- mere spitting distance from one of America's most…read morehistoric places (The Alamo) -- get no love, nor even attention, from Yelpers. Here is a general store across the street from a site with more than 2,500 photos, almost 1,000 reviews (and an inexplicably low 4-star composite rating) and has a paltry EIGHT reviews and 4 photos (which I'm going to double today). Maybe I just love general stores with the amalgam of touristy stuff, toiletries you forgot to bring, and temptations of the sweet and salty kind. They sum it up best with their motto, "Travel necessities. Hometown setting." First, yes, as you would expect, there is PLENTY of Alamo-related stuff. Neither cheap nor chintzy, there are plenty of Alamo t-shirts, cups, magnets, mugs souvenirs, and other ephemera at prices (at least based on my experience) a bit less expensive than at other establishments. An, if you want to show some Texas pride, there's plenty to buy to remind your friends where you're from and what state not to mess with. And yes, it has the feel with the old-time pharmacy catch-alls, from medicines and ointments to phone chargers and travel bags. The convenience of an airport gift shop without the high prices and drab formulaicness. Five and Dime ain't for the cynic. You'll find the kind of cowboy hats you'd find on a sorority girl at a Saturday night party. You'll find the kind of sombreros you have lying around awaiting the moment when your friend passes out drunk and you can place it on his head and Sharpie a Zapata-style mustache on his upper lip. Yes, there's plenty of humor in the Five and Dime collection! In the end, Five and Dime is a great store for both local and tourist alike. Their hometown philosophy can also be found at their other locations: On the San Antonio Riverwalk, on the Landing in Branson, in Old Town San Diego, Market Street in Charleston, Old Town in St. Augustine (FL), Cannery Row in Monterey (CA), River Street in Savannah (GA), and the Historic Plaza in Santa Fe. All great places, and all where I'll be making a stop at the Five and Dime when I do. See you there!

Get Lucky! This is a shady convenience store in the heart…read moreof Downtown San Antonio, right down the way from the Esquire and a staircase that leads down to the river. Did you know that you can legally drink alcohol out in the open along the Riverwalk? You can't have an open container while walking around at street level, but on the river, it's all good! One option would be to get a drink at the local bars, which tends to be expensive, and they're not generally happy with you running off with their glassware. Therefore, going to Lucky's is always a good option! You can grab a quart or a tallboy here, get it in the paper bag if you insist on drinking on street level, but you don't need it for the Riverwalk! Drink up, buddy! This place seems to sell a lot of crap! They have a variety of San Antonio souvenirs- t-shirts, hats, and such. I didn't see anything I needed. When I went, there were a couple of homeless folks in here. One was buying a fake rose packaged in a glass tube, and steel wool. Hmmm... The beer was cold, but they didn't have the sizes that I'd prefer for drinking on the Riverwalk. Buying a six pack rarely makes sense when you can keep buying individual beers, since the six-pack will get warm in the Texas heat quickly. There are better options around here for what you wanna get from here- there's a Walgreens down the street, and a CVS down the river. There's zero parking for this place.

They even have a sunglasses rack that consistently has cute but cheap aviators for all the times I need sunglasses and seem to have lost or broken my most recent pair. The thing that made me even want to review them though is that, well for one, I've been here probably 100 times, but also the service is top-notch. The people who work here are super friendly, always have a smile on their face, and take the time to help you and make sure you have everything you need. It's rare to walk into a gas station where the employees appreciate their job, and for that, I'm going to highly recommend you choose this spot if you're in the neighborhood!
