The views of both Benbulben hill or the Atlantic beyond are breathtaking. The yard is well manicured, full of flowers, trees & neat parking. Immaculate and very well appointed. Fluffy fresh sheets, bed linens & towels. The bed was dreamy! Thick comforter & lots of pillows. Large rooms w plenty of maneuvering space. TV, electric teapot w tea & treats, and beautiful views. Towel warmers, heated floor tiles, and spacious bathroom. In my experience being in Ireland twice now, immediate hot water that lasts isn't as common as I'm used too. Thankfully this wasn't the case here. Ireland is damp, so warm cozy heat & creature comfort are most welcome. And Marita has created such an environment. Excellent fresh hot Irish breakfast, French press coffee, fresh fruit, moist brown bread, cheese, yogurt & granola too. The common room or living room for guests is done in rich burgundy w brocade drapes, thick oversized furniture, flat screen tv & fireplace, ample reading material, w a view of the Atlantic in the distance. A bit challenging to find as its on a country farm road out of town. If we ever have th pleasure of coming to Sligo again, we will definitely stay again. Highly recommended!

Rooms are on the small size but comfortable with chairs in the rooms. Everything functioned well and was clean. Loads to look at in the public rooms downstairs, plus an honor bar. We were welcomed warmly and shown where to find information on local eateries, etc. A full cooked breakfast around a communal dining table - the hostess will introduce you to others. You have your choice of typical Irish, pancakes, eggs with salmon or just continental. Very tasty. Good value!

What an amazing find. We originally were going to another restaurant for lunch but they were closed. We had passed Cawleys on the way in and it looked to be the only place open. We decided to grab a small lunch there and that is when our day changed. We found the most incredible food, most gracious hosts, greatest bar and wait staff of our entire trip. We have a little game going in our travel group to see who has the best seafood chowder. Cawleys is our new winner. A bowl is enough for a meal, with nice chunks of seafood and a cream sauce to it. While enjoying our lunch, Theresa, the owner, helped us plan the next part of our travels. We were impressed by her knowledge of EVERYTHING and were rapidly taking down notes. She listened to us explain what we wanted to do and see and how much time we had to do it. She provided us with quite a few good locations to go to and tips on everything from parking to best pubs in the area. We were so impressed with the food and genuine hospitality of Theresa and her staff that we decided to make Cawley's our home for the night. We finished our touring for the day and headed back to Cawley's for dinner. We knew we may miss dinner because it was so late and we called Theresa. She said it would be no problem holding the kitchen open for us and to not worry. When we arrived, we found a reserved table for us and the staff ready to feed the hungry Americans. The pictures of the food speak for themselves. Everything was incredible. When I say everything, I mean everything. There was not one item on our table that wasn't the best available. We were even excited of the vegetables that were a side to an incredible plate of lamb chops. So if you are looking for great food, amazing service, a nice place to stay in Sligo county, some of the friendliest folks in Ireland, and probably the best travel information held by one person, look no further than Cawleys. This will be a regular stop for us when we come back and will be our recommendation to our friends when they travel to Ireland.

We selected The Red River Lodge based on the Four Star rating by AA, as well as the friendly response to our inquiries by the proprietor Dolores. We were not in any way disappointed. The house is lovely, and the grounds beautiful and well kept. The first thing to strike us was the quiet and the smell of the fresh country air. I wish we could have bottled both! Breakfasts are traditional Irish with some modern additions, and everything was delicious. The host is attentive and extremely accommodating. Rooms are spacious, well lit, astonishingly clean, and very comfortable. You won't want to leave! The views of the Moy River will set up some wonderful photo opportunities. It's about a mile out of town (2KM) so you might need a car if you want to experience Ballina, but there are taxi services available in town. If you are movement impaired, be aware that this is a home and may not be wheelchair friendly, but there are ground level rooms available. Prices are very reasonable. It's not open year round, but when it is, you could not do better than to stay here!

We turned up on her doorstep one evening after seeing the lone five star review for Red River Lodge on Yelp. And we were so glad we did. The house is beautiful. Bright and welcoming, but still has a family house feel. At the front there is a really nice lawn and garden. You can also see the Moy River from the location. Dolores showed us around the house that was open to guests to use. There was very comfortable front room that looked extremely inviting. The breakfast room was fabulous and bright. I could call it a conservatory, but it was more than just that. The front hall, a room in itself, had water and tea station that you could help yourself too. The bedroom was comfy and warm. The bed was dressed fabulously in a plush throw and pillows. You could also see the river from here too, as it was at the front of the house. For breakfast, well that was top notch. There was a choice of Full Irish, scrambled egg or pancakes which you picked the night before. I went for the pancakes. Delicious. Coffee was excellent also. I said at the start that Dolores was a treasure. She is. She had so much to recommend to us in the area, which included a map of the town. She told us where to go for dinner and it turned out to be the best meal of our whole trip (see my Brennan's Lane review). We had a really nice conversation after breakfast before we departed. A lovely lady. It was 65 EUR for the two of us for one night and it was worth every cent.

The Strandhill gets 5/5 marks from me for as a 3.5 star hotel (similar to Courtyard Marriott, etc)…read more It doesn't have the amenities of a 4-star hotel, such as a gym or a restaurant (although The Venue, a good pub/restaurant is next door) or room service etc, but it does do an outstanding job within its means of providing its guests with a comfortable and relaxing stay. The hotel is not directly on the seafront and it's probably about a 12-minute walk into town. The lobby is minimally decorated but very clean and all the staff are genuinely polite, quick and eager to please. The rooms are a dream -- very very large, great balconies with views of the sea, spacious bathrooms with excellent water pressure and big comfortable beds. Free wifi, free parking and complimentary "continental" breakfast. "Continental" in the most self-effacing sense, this breakfast actually includes an impressive spread of cold cuts, yogurts, cereals, boiled eggs, scones, croissants, tea, coffee, juice. We got what we wanted out of Strandhill: a moment of repose, reflection, refreshment and zero hassles. The best place to stay in this town.

Regrettably disappointed with this B&B. So much so, we left before we even checked in!…read more After driving nearly four hours from Dublin we arrived to find the B&B had no obvious parking. I had to ring them twice to ask them how to get to their car park. This 'private car park', as stated on Bank House's website, was basically a lane way and space for two cars at the top of the lane. There was no space to park in the lane way, and the two other spots were full. The lady in the B&B said she would move one of the two cars at the top of the lane way so we could pull in. She did so, we pulled in, then she parked the car she moved behind us, so we were stuck in there! "I'll be happy to move the car if you want to get out," she said. She even mentioned guests leaving their car keys with reception, so cars could be moved. No freaking way were we going to leave the car keys with anyone! First off, as paying guests, I think we should have the liberty to come and go as we please and not have to go through such rigamarole every time. Secondly, the lady told us some of the cars taking up the B&B's parking spaces belonged to employees of the bank next door, who park in the B&B's spaces because it would cost them to park on the street!! Excuse me, but shouldn't your guests have priority, and isn't it the bank employees' problem to sort out their own parking?! Thirdly, at the rear of the B&B, across the street, was a little amusement park. Quiet night's sleep? I think not. We high-tailed it out of there, and despite the lady saying we probably won't find any other accommodation in Bundoran, we found another lovely B&B a couple of minutes' drive up the street, thank you very much. Get your parking sorted, Bank House - your paying guests come first!

I can imagine the golfers reveling in the sights and sounds of the coast yards away. I even took a few pics of the golfers swinging their clubs on the course. It's lushness of greens here in bundoran is truly amazing. The sights and sounds of the water below is something wonderful. The staff here were super friendly on our short stay. Can't say we ate the food here, but it was a really comfortable stay for a couple of nights.

Our group of 9 had our evening meal in the restaurant last night. We were extremely disappointed with our meal. The steaks were all done the same and not as ordered. They were tough. The duck was over seasoned and the lamb was dry and over seasoned with mint. Now, having said this, it is the first meal of our trip and our first day of our stay. Last time we were here everything was amazing. I will let you know how breakfast was as I am heading in there now.
