ILots of nice memories here and I even called this my temporary home for a while. We had stopped here after a long weekend of cruising to have dinner before heading back to our home port and the owner announced that the TN river and KY lake was officially closed. The announcement came with a warning that violators would be subject to a $10,000.00 fine. What?! This was the first time in history that's ever happened but due to the excessive flooding, and potential of damaging debris, the waterways were closed to all boat traffic TFN.
Fortunately we were only a :20 minute ride by car to Birdsong Resort (our home port) so my sweetheart got a ride back to our vehicle and was able to head home since she had to return to work. I got myself settled on to a transient dock, hooked up to shore power and water, logged into the wifi, plugged into the free cable TV and settled in for the night. (not exactly roughing it :-) This would be my home for the next 5 days until the waterways were fully opened back up the the public.
Our other part memories here included meals, meetups with friends, fireworks, gas stops, and just watching some beautiful sunsets. Because this marina is located way back in a secluded bay surrounded by a state forest we made this a regular stopover when returning from a day or extended cruise. Our most recent stop was indicative of what the nice folks continue to do with new improvements and services.
Now more about the marina, they have fuel services (both diiesel and gas), limited boat repair, permanent slips for all size boats from fishing boats to 40' party boats, tansient dock, a retail store with snacks, supplies, swimming and fishing gear and more. They do have a good supply of boaters needs from nuts & bolts to flags and lots of common repair parts. The also have RV campsites for those land boats with picnic area and bbq's a that are available to guests. This is a friendly marina with a ship store that's open year-round. Let's not forget the restaurant (Grey Heron Grill) is closed during the winter (call ahead for confirmation) but during the rest of the year they're open Thursday through Sunday. The food is really good with big portions and the servers are pleasant and warm just do an all around great job (separate review) The beer is ice cold and available in the cooler as well as available with your meal or while chillin' on the deck and enjoying the scenery. (Beer is a big deal because the counties are dry, yes no alcohol, both north & south for miles)
It's boating season 2019 mateys so if you are just cruising the area or on your way up from the Gulf and headed to the Great Lakes or coming down from Chicago and headed to Florida make sure to plug this cool stop into your GPS for an overnight or to gas up have z nuce meal, either way you'll discover one of my favorite southern watering holes. Ahoy!!
