Pegasus is so lucky to have Simon! He's what makes my favorite Toronto gayborhood bar a five-star review. Walking in during hockey playoff season, it was awesome seeing so many invested in a Toronto Maple Leafs playoff game, not the norm where I come from. I noticed the spacious pool table area as well. In my neck of the woods, pool table areas are nowhere near as spacious. Drinks are affordable and bartenders like Simon and patrons alike, are super friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a neighborhood bar feel and I have to say it one more time. read more

First time visiting Toronto. It's a Tuesday early evening, the bar was not busy. The bar staff was less than friendly. In fact when ordering a drink I felt like I was inconveniencing the bar staff with a gin and soda order. The bar tender was shorter, fit, very short shaved hair. Made me feel unwelcome and bothersome, he then proceeded to discuss his sexual conquests with the patron who I assume was his friend next to me. Not that that's an issue but when he made me feel uncomfortable in being at the bar anyway. The overall experience was a let down and I enjoyable. Will not be returning. read more

As an older guy I find that there are fewer places where I can feel comfortable in the village. This is one of those places. There is a good mix of down to earth guys and gals of all ages and it's a great place that offers quite a lot to the visitor. There is a bit of a stage for karaoke and drag shows surrounded by high top tables and chairs/stools for the show. Like a cabaret bar. There is a big window overlooking Church street which is especially good when the street is closed for some occasion like Pride or Halloween. The DJ is great at making the room buzz with the vibe he creates for the evening. The central bar is large and well serviced by sexy guys and prices are better than anywhere else, which helps us have a little more to tip them with. The back half is all about games. Ping Pong, billiards, darts and poker machines. This is a "Sports Bar" after all. There are usually a few people I know having drinks there and it's a great place to meet up with friends. Very casual, well lit, no attitudes, great place for cruising and having a laugh. read more

This is a great go to casual spot in the village. Looming for billards or an arcade machine they have it in the back with seating in the front for casual drinks and conversation. Be sure to check out what events they have going on from trivia to dirty bingo. Would highly recommend going with one of two of their house beers when ordering a drink. At 489 Church Street Pegasus is a gay bar located in the heart of Toronto's gayborhood. When walking the street you have to look for it because it is upstairs, second floor, not on ground level. It's clean, orderly neat, and caters to the pool playing gay crowd, having a good number of pool tables. The bartenders are friendly, know what they are doing and the patrons friendly and talkative as well. The age group of patrons is rather mixed from the young, most of whom are pool players to the elderly. There isn't any dancing and it isn't a good place for a pick up, but it is a good place to go with friends, sit back, chat and chill. read more

I did not know that it was possible for SUCH a friendly, lovely place to exist anywhere. I swung by to Pegasus for a drink after a particularly long day of flying, security checks, all the rest. It was rainy, so by the time I got to the place I was staying, I was drenched, and unhappy. I sorted out dinner, and then wandered over to Pegasus. If I go out to a bar, I'll usually bring my kindle, order a drink, and read for a spell. This was the perfect place to do it. There was music on, but it wasn't loud and obnoxious. That said, the bartenders were charming and friendly (I went a couple of times, and am saying that the lot of them are a good bunch). They engage the patrons at the bar in conversation, and the patrons chatting to the bartender don't get mad if someone overhears something, and laughs along. Then there's the other people who are there at the bar. SUCH a friendly, lovely bunch of people I've not met in a long time. People try to draw you into conversation, even if you're there by yourself. There are plenty of spaces to hang out if you truly want to be alone. There are single tables where you can take your drink, and be by yourself if you want. But, if you don't mind engaging with others, sitting at the bar is a lovely thing. From start to finish, I felt so welcome and loved. This is the type of venue that is really important for our community. Outsiders are welcome with open arms. Insiders are greeted with cheer by the bartenders and the other patrons. Perfect strangers will sit next to each other, and share a laugh, or buy each other rounds for fun. This is a very special place, and I hope it's there for every time I come back to Toronto. read more

Just had some of the worst service: bartender is showing vaykay pics to friends, eventually acknowledged me even though it's not busy; couldn't remember the two drinks I ordered (bottle of Blue and pint of Flying Horse) kept trying to give me Keith's, then says it's 12.50. On an overcast and rainy early Monday afternoon, I was looking for someplace to relax a bit, have a brew or two, and make some plans for exploring Toronto. Conversation with the locals would be a huge added plus as well. Yelp told me that Pegasus was nearby and open, even told me how to get there! Since it was a Monday afternoon, the place was not exactly overflowing with visitors, but I did find a few locals that were willing to give me advice on what to see and do while in Toronto. The beer on tap selection here wasn't overwhelmingly great but it was adequate (in other words, they had Stella on tap.). The bartender offered some pretzels, but I passed. The place was friendly, but in a 'responsive' type of way....in other words, any questions that I asked were politely answered in depth with some follow on conversation. And then back to silence. Another question, another answer, another period of silence. Maybe it was the weather that was getting everybody down. The saving grace for me, though, was the pinball machine in the corner! I ditched the random conversations at the bar and headed over for a serious session of Reliving My Misspent Youth. If you are a pinball wizard and play the table here, be aware of one very important fact: They have the tilt mechanism screwed down very very tight, so much so that a mild scream tends to push this baby over into the land of No Bonus Score. Love this bar. The staff is always friendly and so are the patrons. It's great place to hang out with friends. They offer pool, darts, and have a fun trivia night on Thursday. If you're looking for a good place to get drinks in a casual and not too loud environment I would recommend this place. read more

The best part about this bar is that is does not pretend to be anything that it is not. Contrary to what other sport gay bars claim - this bar and several others across the country were around long before. Always full, friendly and all round good vibes. Pool tables, tons of screens, animated evenings and the staff are warm, friendly and professional. They have an arrangement with Hero Burger a few doors down. Came in for a drink on vacation with my two friends. I was very respectful and did not cause any problems in this bar. I am a straight woman and I came to this bar with my gay friend and a guy I was talking to. The guy and I were kissing and he was slightly drunk. The bartender jokingly told me to tell the guy to leave so I brought him downstairs so he wouldn't be drunk in front of people ( he wasn't even that bad). It was pouring rain during this time so I waited in the staircase for the rain to end and the guy was outside smoking a cigarette. The woman who works at the bar comes down the stairs and tells me extremely rudely that the bartender told me I need to leave. Keep in mind I had one drink at this place and I did nothing wrong absolutely nothing and NOBODY told me to leave. I told her this and she was being extremely nasty and rude. She would not give me a reason why I needed to leave. Even when the bartender told me to make my friend leave he didn't say it with words, he just smiled at me and looked at him and made a motion with his hands. The rain outside was brutal and I told her I had one drink and I didn't understand why I was getting kicked out and that no one told me to leave and she just kept giving me this nasty attitude on my last day of vacation. The place is lame and this woman should be fired. She's the heavy set one who probably hates her life. I also watched her kick out someone else for no reason. The drinks are skimpy and over priced, don't go here. There are 10 other bars on church street with cheaper prices and staff that aren't rude. read more

Very chill bar. It's definitely an lgbta friendly bar. You'd spot lesbian, gay and bi couples dropping by for a drink. The music isn't intrusive, and you can actually hold a blasted conversation in this bar without yelling (imagine that). It's not a crusing scene. It's chill, with regular customers who know what they like and they don't get into your face about it. Cocktails, beer and shooters are present. (The rum and coke I had had a very distinct lack of carbonation, I think the line in the bar was not working properly.) The bar boasts a whole lotta televisions with special mixed drinks on offer. No waitstaff, so belly up to the bar and grab a cocktail! Best part of the bar is the entertainment. There is trivia on offer, Galaga and Ms. Pac-Man, and a Rolling Stones pinball machine. And pool tables to keep yourself entertained! Really great value for the money - and cozy too! (Definitely a keeper of a classy gay bar scene.) It's a bit hard to find, the entrance being tucked right into the edge of two shops. Cons: Not a whiff of a dance floor. Might not be your choice for a crazy night out! Not a bar for people looking to pick up guys or girls. No handicap access - stairs suck for people living with disabilities. Pros: Nicely decorated, clean. Doesn't feel like a "skanky" gay bar, and there is a lack of random creepers hitting on you. very nice bar just north of carlton on church. located on the 2nd floor with a horse...erm...pegasus on the emblem at the entrance=) there are few pool tables, darts and lots of seating at the bar and an area with few tables and chairs separate from the bar. lots of screens around that were showing funny ads/shorts, music videos, motivational phrases and at some point even game of trivia where everyone could participate. in other words - no time to get bored even if you're there all by yourself=) we were a group of about 10 ppl and easily found a spot to sit at 10pm on saturday night. there is no waiter service but the bartenders at the bar are super nice and we had a very nice conversation about how the day passed, what movies we saw and in general we left with a nice feeling that we were very welcomed at the bar=) read more

My sister-in-law dubbed this place the Village version of Cheers. And it does have that feel about it. Welcoming, down to earth, with zero pretensions. There is no "type" that goes here as far as I can tell from the many times we've popped in for a drink or two. Yes it may be a little dated decor wise, but it's still a fun place to be and it is great for people watching. read more

YELP needs to change the rating system. We should be able to rate decor, food, and service all separately. WHAT ABOUT IT YELP? Atmosphere,,,, very mixed age crowd, very accepting, everyone gets along, lots of reasons to go. Music videos, trivia, pin ball!, pool, darts....hm its starting to see athletic haha. The people who go here are the ones who really do't care who you are, what you wear or how much time you're in the gym. Service: bar tenders are typically fast, On occassion they get too chatty with guests and there is lots of time for that when the bar is not busy. When its busy,next next next. That being said, they also seem to know EVERYONE so it must be hard to break away. At least they are not making you wait while they text. Drink prices,, hmm, could be just a lil better. And when you get three sips out of a 6+$ drink cuz they crammed a short glass full of ice, you REALLY feel a lil ripped. Decor: This is why I rated it a 3. Otherwise it would have almost been a 5 SEEERIOUSLY GUYS...get a few cans of paint and get busy, or apply to be on the tv show 'restaurant makeover",,,Pegasues NEEEDS ONE in the worst way. They have a great selection of music which they have a stage for people can sing, and pool tables that cost 10 dollars per hr to use which is always fun as well.
