The beds are very comfortable, especially the pillows - a prerequisite for a restful break. We've stayed in the family room on the top floor and a large twin on the first and both had great beds and bedding. The bar is a bit dismal and doesn't have any outstanding beers (for those you have to go to Rock Point and drink Doom Bar). Hence only four stars. The pool is great for adults and kids alike if the weather will not permit sea swimming. Off street parking though not secure is a boom in such a cramped old town centre and is worth paying extra for. But the piece de resistance is the cooked breakfast. All locally sourced products and you can customize to your heart's content, all for £13! Non-guests welcome. Highly recommend. They even do good coffee which is highly unusual for a traditional English hotel.

It looks like a perfectly decent place for a drink but in terms of the food I can only say disappointing! The menu looked promising and it was packed out, with many eating. Fish & chips should be easy for a place like this so close to the harbour, but ours looked like it had come straight out the freezer. In fact, I doubt whether any of the produce on our plates was local. The chips were bland, McCain-like creations. On the plus side, the service was fine, and ale was good.

Premier Inn located just off junction 25 (for Taunton) of the M5 motorway, on the A358 (going…read moretowards the A303). It's in the village of Ruishton, about 3 miles from Taunton centre itself. There's a park and ride a short walk away, if you don't fancy driving into Taunton. It's based around an old hotel, so reception, the breakfast room and some of the bedrooms are in the old block. There's a new block with additional bedrooms across the car park (with electronic key access). The car park also has two electric vehicle charging points. We stayed there one night on our way back from holiday. It is a convenient location for those travelling onwards by the M5 (north or south), or heading east towards the A303/M3 to London. We found the staff very welcoming and helpful. The bedroom was in the new block, and had good sound proofing, so there was no traffic noise from the A358 or the M5. This could have made the room a little stuffy overnight, but they had fitted air conditioning in our room, which was very efficient indeed, and very quiet. The bed was very comfortable and it had adjustable reading lights, which is always a nice touch. Two additional pillows were provided, which were also very comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean; the bathroom was a little tired, but also clean. There are shelves and an open hanging rail for clothes storage (no drawers) or cupboards. This was fine for us, though somewhere to put suitcases would have helped (we put ours under the bed). Some of the family sized rooms are more spacious, but ours was large enough for our needs. The bathroom had a full-sized bath and very good (powerful) shower, loads of very hot water, with Bayliss & Harding toiletries. We had booked breakfast (£9.99 for a full English breakfast if booked ahead). The breakfast room itself is a little small, so we were asked what time we wanted breakfast, to book a table. Otherwise it is first come, first served. There's a decent range of pastries, muffins, pancakes, crumpets, toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurts and beverages; the cooked breakfast (self-service counter) was regularly topped up so everything was reasonably hot and fresh. (Veggie sausages have to be ordered, and take 7 minutes.) Otherwise, there were hash browns, baked beans, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, scrambled and fried eggs, bacon, sausages and black pudding. Overall, it was good value and, again, the staff were friendly. For the evening meal, there is a Miller & Carter steakhouse 2 minute's walk away, or a short drive (or 10 minute walk along a rather narrow lane) to the Ruishton Inn, which serves traditional pub grub. Overall, we had a good stay and we'd be happy to return.

Rooms are very clean, and an ok size for a single person for just one night. Wifi was free, but the highlight of the stay had to be the cooked breakfast. I've had some hotel breakfasts in my time, but this was one of the best I've had. There was even fried bread and black pudding included in it! Fantastic - the sausage was locally sourced and the staff super friendly. I'd stay there again - just for the breakfast. Just astonishingly good.

Normally I find that hotel restaurants are stupidly expensive with subpar selection, service, and quality. This is not the case with this hotel's built in eatery. I'd go so far as to say it's worth it to come here JUST FOR THE FOOD! We each had the broccoli and stilton soup with the burger. The soup was rich and creamy with a very delicate flavour. The burger was possibly the best I've ever had. It was massive. The meat was flavourful, perfectly seasoned and cooked. In many cases a burger is defined and made by the surrounding compliments, but I could eat the meat on its own. Speaking of the condiments, however, it should be noted that this was the most well-dressed burger I think I've seen. It was served on top of what I can only describe as a toasted mini baguette, topped with melted cheese and a green aioli that really complimented the meat. If you live around this area, I highly recommend it. I now wish I'd tried some of the more expensive menu items, but I'm a student so I'll save that for a future trip. The waitresses were also very kind and attentive, and though there weren't many other patrons, we received our food quickly. Edit: We went back for dinner on our second day. I had the braised lamb shoulder and it's very difficult to say which is better, the burger or the lamb. The chefs are artist. The shoulder came with some greens and a creamy mash. The arrangement is topped with a sauce that I can only describe as tasting like a sweet hickory gravy with what might be called slight asian and fruity accents. It's amazingly tasty and equal to if not better than the aforementioned burger. I highly recommend this place.

It was very encouraging to experience the good welcome and kind service, even when it is a small item. Observing the interaction of the staff with clients was also encouraging. The atmosphere was one of how can we make your stay a pleasant one which is a very good recommendation for a Hotel. The ambience was good too and everywhere you looked you seemed to receive the message we are cared for. There seemed to be a good number of guests and a pleasant atmosphere. Global Nomad

Excellent small hotel and Oriental restaurant!…read more Chard is not necessarily the most attractive of small towns, but very conveniently set as a stopping off point between London/Midlands and the West Country. The Bath House has most elegantly furnished rooms, very reasonably priced. If you dine in the restaurant below, you will be delighted with the quality of the food. (Breakfasts are also a treat). Best of all, the service is friendly: the hosts go to great lengths to ensure their guests are comfortable, well-fed and happy. Highly recommended - you will not be disappointed.

We took a gamble and entered and were pleasantly surprised to find the most unusual menu in one of the most surprising of places. We settled for the soy burger (minus cheese) with wedges. And it was good. The food was hot, fresh, and very good. Our hostess was very warm too. We were probably the only diners at around 3 pm, but the kitchen was open for us. As we were not too far from our destination we decided to stop in a local pub to get some lunch, which by chance happened to be The Royal Oak in West street, Bere regis. We are more than used to paying around £80.00 for a nice meal in a good restraunt and often feel a bit let down by pub food. However, today, we entered The Royal Oak at 12.00 and were met by very helpful happy staff who, on request, offered us the menu. We both selected Cottage Pie with peas and carrots which only came to £10.00 for both meals. This ordinarily would lower our expectations dramatically, but how wrong can you be? The Cottage Pie was delightful, large portions and was of equal standard to that of bistros charging eight times as much. I would not hesitate to recommend The Royal Oak, what a lovely surprise. Quality and service are still available in the UK in the most unlikely places. Well done!

Stayed here for one night prior to a family event. I have to say it is one of the best B&B's I have…read moreever stayed in. I arrived late in the evening due to a long journey and it was no bother for the landlady who was 110% welcoming and friendly. She is a bubbly lady who loves a chat. Her husband seems to run the dairy farm and he is a pleasant and friendly man too. I was made to feel totally at home. The accommodation is a converted barn and the rooms are wonderful and olde worldy. The breakfast was a total delight. I couldn't rate this place highly enough.
