Yesterday night was our first time attending Pallotine Fathers Bingo. The church facility is set back off the road, but a bright yellow lit-up sign made it easy to find the driveway to pull in. Parking was readily available, and the actual hall where bingo is held was easy to spot. Doors open at 5pm; we arrived at about 6:20pm. While I purchased boards, my husband didn't have any trouble finding us a good seat at that time. A nice amount of people, but surely not packed. The hall is what you'd expect at a church facility, a big open room with a mix of folding tables and chairs. It was no-frills, but comfortable enough. Depending on how many boards you buy, games here are pretty cheap. Your admission board is just $2, and most additional games are only $1 or $2 a board. Since it's a smaller crowd with lower board costs, prizes are lower too. Several $25, $30, and $50 games. But there are also $300 and $500 games, plus Share the Wealth winnings were over $150 each game. Holy Kielbasa was a $100 win, and a 50/50 was almost $100 too. Games here are played on both paper and boards. The board-boards was a fun throwback! I haven't played with chips in a long time, and my husband never has. But he did okay! They happily lend you a pan of loaner chips for board play, if you don't have any in your bingo bag, which we do not. The caller equipment is old, but functions well. The caller was easy to hear and went at a nice pace. The wall boards lit up reliably. No preview screens of the next number on deck here, but if you sit close enough to the caller you can see her hold up the next ball. ;-) No automated bingo checker software either; workers actually yell out numbers to the caller, but it didn't seem to slow down the game play too much. The snack bar was actually very intriguing. When we got there, my husband checked it out and came back with coffees, and a slice of pizza and pie. Both were good, especially the pie. And everything was a buck or less. Later at intermission we saw huge, delicious looking chef and taco salads coming out of the snack bar too. The hub'ster went back up to look, and they also had good looking burgers and meatloaf sandwiches, everything a few bucks or less. Next time, we're definitely coming prepared to eat more. Compared to the other church bingo I've been to in the area so far (St. Andrew's in Tonawanda), I like Pallotine Fathers better, so I set my stars accordingly. The games are cheap. The retro play with chips for some games is fun. The crowd was decent sized, but not too packed. The caller was clear. The food was good, and the food we still want to try looked even better. So did we win??? Nope. But we came down to one number a few times, so hopefully that means our good luck is on deck for our next visit to Pallotine Fathers Bingo. #KnockOnWood #FingersCrossed #RubTheTroll
